Indian Army Names Firing Range after Vidya Balan

  • Indian Army has named a firing range in Gulmarg, Kashmir after an Indian cinema actress, Vidya Balan.
  • Vidya Balan is an actress of 'Shakuntala Devi' web series.
  • She has contributed to Indian cinema for over two decades after she started her career on small screen.
  • She has been honoured with several awards in past years for her phenomenal work in film industry.
  • Naming of firing range after her is a special recognition by the Indian Army.
  • Apart from this, she has been invited to join Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which is the governing body behind Oscars.
  • 'Vidya Balan Firing range' is situated in Gulmarg, Kashmir. She has also attended the Gulmarg Winter festival along with her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur which is organised by Indian Army. To recognise her contributions to cinema, this range was named after her.

INS Tabar Conducts Military Exercise with Italian Navy

  • Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tabar participated in military exercises with frontline frigate of Italian Navy.
  • INS Tabar joined Italian Navy and entered Port of Naples as part of ongoing deployment in Mediterranean.
  • Commanding officer Captain Mahesh Mangipudi called on senior officers of Prefect of Naples Authority, regional Italian navy headquarters and coast guard headquarters during the stay.
  • While returning, Tabar also undertook a Maritime Partnership Exercise with ITS Antonio Marceglia in Tyrrhenian Sea.
  • This exercise covered several naval operations such as air defence procedures, communication drills, replenishment at sea, and cross deck helo operations by day and night.
  • Exercise was mutually beneficial for enhancing interoperability and consolidating combined operations against maritime threats.

Russia Offers Military Support to secure Tajik-Afghan Border

  • Russia's military base in Tajikistan is fully equipped to help secure its border with Afghanistan, and Moscow will take extra measures to protect it if needed.
  • Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon ordered the mobilisation of 20,000 military reservists to bolster the border with Afghanistan after more than 1,000 Afghan security personnel fled across the frontier in response to Taliban militant advances.
  • The Afghan military exodus comes as Taliban overrun most districts in northeastern Badakhshan province.

IAF to Procure 10 Anti-drone Systems

  • After a drone attack at the Indian Air Force (IAF) station in Jammu, the force has decided to procure 10 anti-drone systems to stop such attacks in future in the border areas.
  • The force has floated a Request for Information (RFI) for Indian vendors for Counter Unarmed Aircraft System (CUAS) that can be armed with laser directed energy weapons to bring down rogue drones.

GRSE Kolkata Bags Order for Supply of Patrol boats to Bangladesh

  • The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) Kolkata have yet again managed to further strengthen the ties between India and Bangladesh by bagging an order to manufacture six patrol boats for Bangladesh.
  • The GRSE, a mini-Ratna category- I defence PSU and a leading warship building company, bagged an order to build six patrol boats for sustainable coastal and marine fisheries projects under the Department of Fisheries, Government of Bangladesh.
  • The order has been awarded to GRSE through international competitive bidding where other international players from Europe and Asia were in the fray.
  • The 13 metres surveillance patrol boats for Marine Fisheries Surveillance Check-post (MFSC), Government of Bangladesh, will be used in surveillance activities, shallow water operations and patrolling fishing grounds day and night for illegal fishing gear and retrieval of survivors.
  • It may be noted that GRSE has the distinction in exporting the first 'Made in India' warship when the shipyard delivered a multipurpose offshore patrol vessel (OPV), 'CGS Barracuda' to the Mauritius Coast Guard.

India's 1 Indigenous Drone Defence Dome'Indrajaal'

  • India's 1st indigenous drone defence dome 'Indrajaal' has been developed by Hyderabad-based Grene Robotics. As per the company, the drone defence dome – 'Indrajaal' is capable of autonomously protecting an area of 1000-2000 sq km against aerial threats. It protects the area by assessing and acting on aerial threats such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and Low- Radar Cross Section (RCS) targets.

Indian Army Inducts First Batch of Indigenously Designed & Developed Short Span Bridging Systems

  • Indian Army inducts the 1st batch of 12 indigenously designed and developed Short Span Bridging systems into the Corps of Engineers. The induction ceremony took place in the national capital. The system has been designed by DRDO and manufactured by L&T. Army Chief General MM Naravane and DRDO Chief Dr G Satheesh Reddy attended the event.
