Canada has simplified the process for post-secondary international students. From 1 April 2026, eligible students do not need a separate co-op work permit for mandatory work placements such as co-ops or internships. These placements are now covered under the student’s study permit, provided they are an essential part of the academic programme. (Canada)
What students should note:
This makes the process easier and reduces extra paperwork, but students should still confirm that the co-op or internship is officially a mandatory part of their programme. (Canada)

New Zealand has announced new post-study work options that will take effect from late 2026. Students completing a Level 7 Graduate Diploma in New Zealand, along with a prior bachelor’s degree, will become eligible for a 1-year Post Study Work Visa. A new Short Term Graduate Work Visa will also be introduced for some students with Level 5 to Level 7 qualifications who do not qualify for the regular post-study work route. (Immigration New Zealand)
What students should note:
This is a positive move for diploma-level students, but the change is for late 2026, so students should check timelines carefully before making plans around it. (Immigration New Zealand)

The UK has increased the Student visa application fee to £558, effective 8 April 2026, up from £524 earlier. The same fee also applies to each dependant. In addition, students usually need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge of £776 per year, which is paid upfront for the full visa period. (GOV.UK)
What students should note:
While the visa fee has gone up, the bigger upfront cost is often the health surcharge. Students should plan their budget early, especially if dependants are applying too. (GOV.UK)

Germany’s APS has updated the undergraduate eligibility criteria for Indian students from Winter Semester 2026/27 onwards. A minimum of 70% overall in Class XII will now be required under both the Studienkolleg and direct admission pathways. APS has also stated that applications submitted before 15 March 2026 will be assessed under the earlier criteria, and previously issued APS certificates will remain valid. (Academic Evaluation Centre)
What students should note:
Students planning for Germany after Class XII should review their marks and pathway early, especially if targeting undergraduate admissions from Winter Semester 2026/27 onwards. (Academic Evaluation Centre)
