Last US and NATO Forces Leave Key Afghanistan Base
After nearly 20 years, the US military left Bagram Airfield, the epicentre of its war to oust the Taliban and hunt down the al Qaida perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America.
The airfield was handed over to the Afghan National Security and Defense Force in its entirety.
The withdrawal is the clearest indication that the last of the 2,500-3,500 US troops have left Afghanistan or are nearing a departure, months ahead of President Joe Biden's promise that they would be gone by September 11.

Pakistan Army Inducts China-made VT-4 Battle Tanks
The Pakistan Army has formally inducted the first batch of the China-made VT-4 battle tanks into its armoury.
Produced by Chinese state-owned armoured vehicle manufacturer, Norinco, the delivery of VT-4 tanks from the manufacturer began in April last year. Pakistan is the third country to have bought these tanks from China after Thailand and Nigeria.
Pakistan has been buying various weapons from China which has become its reliable partner in the defence field.
Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari is Vice Chief of IAF
Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari took over as Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force.
He has succeeded Air Marshal HS Arora, who retired after putting in more than 39 years of service.
During his tenure, Air Marshal Aora was instrumental in ensuring prompt and optimum operational deployment of assets in proportionate response to the developing situation in Eastern Ladakh.
Air Marshal Chaudhari was commissioned in the fighter stream of the IAF in December 1982. He has a flying experience of more than 3800 hours, including missions flown during Op Meghdoot and Op Safed Sagar.

BAE Systems to Deliver First M-Code GPS User Equipment to Germany
BAE Systems will deliver the first batch of new military GPS user equipment to Germany, after being awarded a Foreign Military Sales contract by the Space and Missile Systems Center's Space Production Corps.
Germany was the first state to order new military GPS user equipment (MGUE) which will be able to access M-Code, a new anti-spoofing, anti-jamming GPS signal designated for military use.
Israel Unveils Sea Breaker, the Long-range Missile System
Israeli defence major Rafael Advanced Defense Systems unveiled Sea Breaker, a 5th generation long range, autonomous, precision-guided missile system meant to hit high-value maritime and land targets.
Described by the firm as a naval and artillery unit force-multiplier, Sea Breaker, which has stand-off ranges of up to 300 km, can be fired both from land and surface ships.
Though company sources said they would be offering the system to India in future with a possible Make in India initiative, the country already has a similar product, BrahMos, an Indo-Russia missile system.
The Israeli company has an existing joint venture with Indian private firm Kalyani and is called the Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS).
India's Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant
The Indian Navy is to start sea trials of its first domestically-built aircraft carrier in a move that will boost its ability to counter China's growing presence in the Indian Ocean.
Sea trials of the INS Vikrant are expected to begin as early as next month, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh saying last week that the warship was set to enter active service in the first half of 2022.
The nearly Rs. 24,000-crore project was targeted to be commissioned by 2018, but was hit by delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 'basin trial' was successfully completed in November 2020.

Turkey, Azerbaijan Begin Joint Military Drills in Baku
Turkey and Azerbaijan have begun joint military drills "Mustafa Kemal Ataturk – 2021" in Baku, deploying tanks, helicopters and drones in an effort to improve the two countries' combat interoperability. The exercises involve up to 600 personnel in an effort to improve the allies' combat interoperability.
The main purpose of the exercises is to improve the interaction between the two countries' army units during combat operations, to develop the commanders' military decision-making skills and their ability to manage military units.

DRDO Flight Test New-Gen Nuclear Capable Ballistic Missile Agni P
A new generation nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-P (Prime) was successfully test-fired by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Agni-P is a new generation advanced variant of Agni class of missiles. It is a canisterised missile with range capability between 1,000 and 2,000 km.
Various telemetry and radar stations positioned along the eastern coast tracked and monitored the missile. The missile followed text book trajectory, meeting all mission objectives with high level of accuracy.

An Indian Navy warship carried out a drill with a South Korean vessel within the East China Sea amid China"s rising assertiveness within the area.

Ukraine, United States to Start Black Sea Military Drills
Ukraine and the United States started a military exercise involving more than 30 countries in the Black Sea and southern Ukraine, despite Russian calls to cancel the drills. Sea Breeze 2021 follows a rise in tensions between NATO and Moscow, which said last week it had fired warning shots and dropped bombs in the path of a British warship to chase it out of Black Sea waters off the coast of Crimea. Britain rejected Russia's account of the incident.
Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 and says it is Russian territory, but the peninsula is internationally recognised as part of Ukraine.
Sea Breeze 2021 will last two weeks and involve about 5,000 military personnel from NATO and other allies, and around 30 ships and 40 aircraft. U.S. missile destroyer USS Ross and the U.S. Marine Corps will take part.
South Korea to Develop 'Iron Dome' Style Defence System
South Korea approved plans to pursue a $2.6-billion artillery interception system, similar to Israel's "Iron Dome", designed to protect against North Korea's arsenal of long-range guns and rockets.
Late last year the government's defence blueprint called for the development of a "Korean-style Iron Dome" that can defend Seoul and key facilities.
Through this project, it is expected that the ability to respond to the threat of enemy long-range artillery will be strengthened, as well as securing domestic technology and creating domestic jobs.
