Jeff Bezos Tops Forbes Billionaires List For The 3rd Year

  •  In COVID-19 times, Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has maintained his top slot as world's richest man with a net worth of $113 billion, followed by Bill Gates at $98 billion, according to the latest Forbes 34th annual world's billionaires list.
  • Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of luxury magnate LVMH (LVMHF), moved up the list as the third-wealthiest person with $76 billion fortune. At $67.5 billion, Warren Buffett's fortune landed at fourth place.
  • A notable newcomer to the list is Bezos' ex-wife, MacKenzie Bezos, who lands at No 22 on the list with a total net worth of $36 billion.

Ajay Mahajan appointed MD & CEO of CARE Ratings

  • CARE Ratings, said Ajay Mahajan has been appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company for five years from April 15, 2020. The board of directors of the credit rating agency made the appointment, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board.
  • Mahajan started his career with Bank of America in 1990 and went on to become the MD and Country Head of Global Markets Group.

Former Attorney General of India Ashok Desai dies at 77

  • Former Attorney General of India and Padma Bhushan winner Ashok Desai died. He was 77.
  • Desai started his practice in 1956 in Bombay High Court. He served as the attorney general of India from July 9, 1996 to May 6, 1998. He was also the solicitor general from 1989 to 1990. Desai was awarded the Padma Bhushan and the Law Luminary Award in 2001.

Army veteran KP Dhal Samata dies

  •  Veteran Army officer Lt Gen (retd) K P Dhal Samanta, who had played a valiant role in 1971 and Kargil wars, died at a hospital in New Delhi following a prolonged illness. He was 70.
  • One of the most illustrious military generals that Odisha has produced, he is survived by wife and a son.
  • A host of dignitaries including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan mourned the demise of the former Army officer, who was very proud of his Odia legacy.

Veteran Congress Leader, Former Union Minister Rajasekharan Dies Aged 91

  • Veteran Congress leader and former union minister M V Rajasekharan died at a private hospital after a prolonged illness.
  • The 91-year-old, who had served as a Lok Sabha member, MLC and Minister of State for Planning in the Manmohan Singh government, was ailing from old age-related health issues.

Former Major Runner-Up Doug Sanders Dies Aged 86

  • Doug Sanders, a four-time runner-up in major events, has died from natural causes aged 86.
  • Sanders, known for his colourful wardrobe on the circuit, won on 20 occasions between 1956 and 1972 but missed out on major glory, with his near miss at the Open 50 years ago the closest he came.
  • He was atop the leaderboard coming into the final hole at St Andrews but missed a putt from three feet for victory, and in the resulting 18-hole play-off fellow American Jack Nicklaus prevailed on the final green.

  • Shri Birupaksha Mishra assumes charge as Executive Director of Union Bank of India. Prior to this, Shri Birupaksha Mishra was Executive Director at Corporation Bank.
  • Shri Birupaksha Mishra is a Postgraduate and a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He started his banking career as a Probationary Officer in the year 1984 and has a rich experience of more than 35 years in various administrative and functional capacities at Branches, Regional Offices and also at the Corporate Office.  
  • He has worked in various parts of the country and has handled Credit and Credit Monitoring Portfolio of the Bank and headed IT vertical of the Bank.

Former Chelsea Goalkeeper Peter Bonetti Dies At Age 78

  • Peter Bonetti, the former Chelsea and England goalkeeper nicknamed "The Cat" for his outstanding reflexes and agility, has died. He was 78.
  • Bonetti died after suffering from long-term illness.
  • He kept 208 clean sheets in 729 appearances for the London club over two spells from 1960-75 and 1977-79.
  • Only Ron Harris, with 795, has made more appearances for the club.

Infosys COO Pravin Rao is Nasscom chairman

  • Infosys' chief operating officer, UB Pravin Rao, has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), for 2020-21. 
  • Rekha M Menon, Chairman and Senior Managing Director, Accenture in India, will be the Vice-Chairperson for the industry body.

Karnataka Bank gets RBI nod to reappoint Mahabaleshwara M S as MD and CEO for 3 yrs

  • Private sector lender Karnataka Bank on Saturday said it has received RBI nod for reappointment of Mahabaleshwara M S as MD and CEO for next three years.
  • The regulator has also approved for reappointment of P Jayarama Bhat as part time (non executive) chairman.

Former big-hitting New Zealand wicketkeeper Jock Edwards dies at 64

  • Jock Edwards, the former New Zealand Test wicketkeeper, has died at the age of 64.
  • A short, stocky, big-hitter, Edwards made his Test debut in the home Test series against Australia in 1976-77 as a specialist batsman, before taking the gloves when England toured the following season. He then travelled to England and played The Oval and Trent Bridge Tests, but had a poor showing behind the stumps. He played the last of his eight Tests against the visiting Indians in 1981, before the emergence of Ian Smith forced him out.

South Africa Cricketer Du Preez Dies, Aged 77

  • Former South Africa spinner and Zimbabwe selector, John Harcourt du Preez has died at the age of 77 after a prolonged illness.Cricket South Africa (CSA) said du Preez, fondly known has Jackie, passed away on in Harare, Zimbabwe. He had been suffering from a heart condition for some time.

Alan Merrill, Songwriter Of 'I Love Rock 'N' Roll', Dies At 69

  •  Musician-songwriter Alan Merrill has passed away due to complications from the coronavirus. He was 69. The recording artiste died in New York Sunday, his daughter Laura Merrill confirmed the news on Facebook.
  • Alan Merrill was born in the Bronx in New York City and went on to become a member of the band The Arrows along with drummer Paul Varley and guitarist Jake Hooker, reported Deadline. As part of the music group, Alan Merrill wrote the hit number "I love rock 'n' roll", which released in 1975. The song would later become a chart topper for Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in 1982.

Veteran Japanese Comedian Ken Shimura Passes Away At 70 From Coronavirus

  •  Veteran Japanese comic Ken Shimura, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week, has died at the age of 70. The actor was hospitalised in Tokyo on March 20 after developing a fever and being diagnosed with severe pneumonia. Shimura tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020.
  • A household name in Japan since the 1970s, Shimura was the first prominent entertainment world figure in Japan to test positive for the virus.
  • The actor was set to star in his first feature film "God of Cinema", directed by Yoji Yamada.

Chief Of Brahma Kumaris Dadi Janki Passes Away At 104

  •  Rajyogini Dadi Janki, the chief administrator of Brahmakumari spiritual organisation passed away in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. She was 104.  She breathed her last at the Global Hospital where she was admited.
  • Dadi Janki was running the international spiritual institution spanning across 140 countries. Millions of people are associated with this orgnisation and she was the guardian of 46 thousand sisters of the body. The orgnisation, which teaches Rajyoga meditation and teaching, is operating 8,000 service centers spreading over 100 countries.

  •  Artist and architect Satish Gujral, renowned for his versatility across different mediums, has died. He was 94. 
  • Gujral, who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, was an architect, painter, muralist, sculptor and graphic artist.

Madonna Pays Tribute To Co-Star After Coronavirus Death

  •  Madonna has paid tribute to Mark Blum, a co-star in the 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan, after his death from coronavirus complications.
  • The US singer and actress remembered Blum, who played Gary Glass and died this week at the age of 69, as "funny, warm, loving and professional".

SP Founding Member Beni Prasad Verma Passes Away

  • Beni Prasad Verma, a founding member of the Samajwadi Party and former Union minister who was considered close to party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away. He was 80.
  • Verma was the telecom minister between 1996-1998 in then Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's cabinet and was the steel minister in the Congress-led UPA government.
