N Kamakodi reappointed as MD and CEO of City Union Bank
Private sector lender City Union Bank reappointed N Kamakodi as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bank. The appointment was approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 20 April, 2020. Kamakodi's reappointment is for a further period of three years with effect. The reappointment will be effective from 1 May 2020.
Kamakodi has been associated with the City Union Bank since 2003. He was elevated as MD and CEO in 2011.
HSBC Appoints Noel Quinn as Permanent CEO
HSBC Holdings PLC has appointed Noel Quinn—a stalwart of the British bank—as chief executive seven months after he assumed the position on an interim basis.
Mr. Quinn has been with HSBC for more than 30 years. His appointment removes one element of uncertainty about Europe's largest bank as it deals with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, which has triggered the worst financial crisis in more than a decade.
Former Fiji Prime Minister Qarase Dies
Former Fiji prime minister Laisenia Qarase, who was installed as leader following one coup attempt and overthrown by another, died aged 79.
The founder of the Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua Party, who served as Fiji's sixth prime minister from 2000 to 2006, died in hospital after a short illness.

US Prez Trump appoints Indian-American To Country's Top Science Board
US President Donald Trump appointed Indian-American Sudarsanam Babu to country's top science board.
Babu, who is from the prestigious Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been appointed as a member of the National Science Board for a six-year term.
Babu would be the third Indian American in this prestigious board. The other two being Sethuraman Panchanathan from the Arizona State University and Suresh V Garimella from University of Vermont.

Kapil Dev Tripathi was appointed Secretary to President Ram Nath Kovind.
The 1980-batch retired IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre will replace Sanjay Kothari, who was selected as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner in February, 2020. Mr. Tripathi's tenure is on a contract basis and is co-terminus with the tenure of the President.

Dipankar Datta named as Bombay HC Chief Justice
The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde, has recommended the name of Calcutta High Court judge Justice Dipankar Datta for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Justice Datta is the brother-in-law of former Supreme Court judge Justice Amitava Roy. Justice (retired) Roy was the puisne judge on the Bench that held former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her aide Sasikala Natarajan guilty in a disproportionate assets case.
Justice Datta's father was also a former judge of the Calcutta High Court. Justice Datta was elevated to the Bench of the Calcutta High Court as a permanent judge on June 22, 2006. He is now Judge Two.

Chilean writer Luis SepĂșlveda dies aged 70
Best-selling Chilean writer Luis Sepúlveda has died of Covid-19 in Spain at the age of 70.
Sepúlveda became internationally known after the publication of his novel The Old Man Who Read Love Stories in 1988.
A socialist, he was imprisoned in Chile under the military rule of Gen Augusto Pinochet before going into exile.

Freedom fighter R V Bhuskute, who had participated in the Quit India Movement, died of prolonged illness in Maharashtra's Raigadh district.
He was 94 and is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.
Bhuskute, who had participated in the Quit India Movement, wrote several books on land laws and worked for the release and rehabilitation of bonded labourers in tribal areas of the state.
