Shri. Giridhar Aramane assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Shri Aramane was earlier serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also been a Jt Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas during 2012-14.
He is 1988 batch IAS officer of AP cadre. An M Tech in Civil Egg from IIT Madras, he also holds a Masters Degree in Economics.
Kulmeet Makkar, Producers Guild of India CEO, dies at 60
Kulmeet Makkar, CEO, Producers Guild of India (PGI), died. He was 60.
Makkar suffered a massive heart attack and passed away in Dharamsala. Many from the film industry including filmmakers Karan Johar, Ashoke Pandit, Subhash Ghai and actor Sanjay Suri among others paid tributes to Makkar on social media.
Ajay Tirkey Assumes Charge as Secretary of WCD Ministry
Mr. Ajay Tirkey, an Indian administrative Service officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre belonging to 1987 batch, assumed charge as Secretary in Ministry of Women and Child Development. He succeeds Rabindra Panwar.
Before assuming the charge of Secretary, Shri Ajay Tirkey was holding the post of Special Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry. He also worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He has also worked in Ministry of Defence as Director and Joint Secretary from 2004 to 2009.

Delhi Historian RV Smith Passed Away
Noted author, historian and chronicler of Delhi, R.V. Smith, passed away.
Smith wrote extensively for many leading publications, including Outlook, on Delhi's intricate history tucked in old markets, streets and historical ruins.
The 'True Chronicler of Delhi' was the recipient of the Canon Holland Prize and the Rotary Award for general knowledge and journalism award (1997-98) from the Michael Madhusudan Academy.
Two of his noted books on the national capital are 'Delhi: Unknown Tales of a City' and 'The Delhi that No-one Knows'.
Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen dies aged 79
Pioneering Nigerian drummer Tony Allen, a co-founder of the afrobeat musical genre, died in Paris.
Allen was the drummer and musical director of musician Fela Kuti's famous band Africa '70 in the 1960-70s.
Fela, as he was widely known, died in 1997. He once said that "without Tony Allen, there would be no afrobeat".
Chuni Goswami, Legendary Football Captain and Bengal Cricketer, Dies at 82
Former India footballer Subimal "Chuni" Goswami, who captained the 1962 Asian Games gold-winning team, died in Kolkata after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Goswami was among the rare sportsmen who played more than one sport at the highest levels; not only was he among India's greatest ever footballers, he played first-class cricket for Bengal and captained them to the final of the Ranji Trophy in 1971-72.

Freedom fighter and Gandhian Hema Bharali, known for her efforts to uplift the condition of women and empower the marginalised sections of society, died at her residence.
Born on February 19, 1919, Bharali had received the Padma Shri in 2005.
In 2006, she was awarded the National Communal Harmony Award by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony under the Ministry of Home Affairs. She also received the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Award for National Integration from the Assam government.

US President Donald Trump has nominated senior Indian-American diplomat Manisha Singh as America's next envoy to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development or OECD.
Manisha Singh, 49, is currently Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs at the State Department.
Headquartered in Paris, France, the OECD is an intergovernmental economic organisation with 36 member countries to stimulate economic progress and world trade.

He was appointed the managing director and chief executive officer of Andhra Bank in November 2015 till his superannuation on December 31, 2017.

Justice Dipankar Datta (55) of the Calcutta High Court was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
He was sworn in at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. They were all wearing masks and maintaining social distance at the ceremony that was streamed live online.
Justice Datta is the 45th Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

RBI Extends Madhavan Menon's Term As Part-Time Chairman of CSB Bank
CSB Bank said the Reserve Bank of India has extended the term of appointment of Madhavan Menon as the part-time Chairman of the Bank till July 21, 2020.
The private sector bank, formerly known as The Catholic Syrian Bank, in a regulatory filing said, the extension is in terms of Section 10B (1A)(i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Menon was appointed as part-time Chairman of CSB Bank for a period of one year with effect from April 22, 2019. He is Chairman and Managing Director of Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.
