BCCI Assures Foreign Players for Safe Return

  • The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has attempted to calm the frayed nerves of foreign cricketers, especially from Australia, who are playing for various teams in the IPL and are worried about being locked out of their countries due to the alarming Covid-19 crisis in India.
  • The Australian government suspended air flights from India to their country, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison asking the players to make their own arrangements for return.
  • The fear of being locked out of Australia made Andrew Tye take a flight back home. Two other Australians, Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa, exited their team Royal Challengers Bangalore's bio-bubble in preparation for leaving for their country.
  • The BCCI will do everything to ensure that you reach your respective destinations seamlessly. The BCCI is monitoring the situation very closely and is working with the government authorities to make arrangements to get you home once the tournament concludes.

Amit Panghal Gets Bronze in Russia

  • Haryana boxer Amit Panghal had to be content with a bronze medal in the 52 kg category at the Governor's Cup in St Petersburg after going down to world champion Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan in the semifinals.
  • Panghal, winner of a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships, lost 0-5 to Zoirov, who is also the reigning Olympics champion. This was the Indian's second loss to Zoirov after the 2019 World Championships, in which Panghal had lost in the gold medal bout, with the same 5-0 scoreline.

Nadal secured his record 12th title at the clay-court tournament by converting on his third match point to cap a satisfying victory. It had been a lackluster start to the season for the third-ranked Nadal after he didn't play much last year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
