India got its 68th Grandmaster when Arjun Kalyan, from Chennai, achieved the 2,500 ELO rating mark after he beat Dragan Kosic of Montenegro in the fifth round of the GM Round Robin "Rujna Zora-3" chess tournament in Serbia.
To become a Grandmaster, a player has to achieve at least three GM norms, plus his/her ELO rating has to have passed 2,500 at some point.

Priyanka Mohite Becomes First Indian Woman to Scale Mount Annapurna
Priyanka Mohite from Satara in western Maharashtra has scaled Mount Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain peak in the world, becoming the first Indian woman climber to achieve the feat.
Mount Annapurna is a massif in the Himalayas located in Nepal that includes one peak over 8,000 metres and is considered to be one of the toughest mountains to climb.
Priyanka has also climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest (8,849 metres) in 2013, Mount Lhotse (8,516 metres) in 2018, Mount Makalu (8,485 metres) and also Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres) in 2016.
India Set to Host its Maiden WBC India Championship
In a major milestone, the World Boxing Council (WBC) has endorsed the Indian Championship fight between the country's two top women boxers -- Chandni Mehra and Suman Kumari -- which will take place in Jalandhar, Punjab on May 1.
The winner of the fight, which is part of the LZ Promotions India Unleashed-Fight Night, will become the WBC India champion.
The WBC is one of the four top organisations which sanctions professional boxing bouts globally, and this will be India's maiden foray into hosting a title card for two female fighters.
Chandni and Suman are India's No. 1 fighters in lightweight and featherweight categories and will challenge each other in this bout, aiming to become the first WBC India champion across both men and women categories.

Champions League: UEFA announces New format for CL
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced the new Champions League format which will come in force from the 2024 season.
Champions League will now be competed between 36 teams, adding four more teams to the competition. All 36 teams are brought together into one pool instead of the current system of four-team groups.
The reforms come after an extensive consultation across the football family. The changes made are designed to secure the positive future of European football at every level.
India Open Badminton Tournament Postponed
The India Open Super 500 tournament, one of the last three qualifying events for the Tokyo Olympics, was postponed due to raging COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The USD 4,00,000 India Open was scheduled to be held behind closed doors in the National Capital from May 11 to 16.

Tsitsipas Wins Monte Carlo Crown
Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Monte Carlo Masters without dropping a set, beating Andrey Rublev for his first title this year and sixth overall.
Fourth-seeded Tsitsipas was in dominant form as he edged 4-3 ahead of the sixth-seeded Russian in their career meetings, having also beaten him on clay last year in the French Open quarterfinals. The 22-year-old Greek won his last title in February last year.
Roger Federer Confirms French Open Participation
Roger Federer will kickstart his claycourt campaign at next month's Geneva Open as he steps up his preparations for the French Open.
After missing more than a year following two knee operations, Federer returned on Tour at last month's Qatar Open, where he suffered a quarter-final defeat by Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili.
The 20-times Grand Slam champion then withdrew from the Dubai tournament in order to train and prepare going forward.

Star India Retains Pro Kabbadi League's Media Rights
Star India has retained media rights to broadcast Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) for five more years by bidding to pay over Rs. 180 crore annually for the property, sources said on April 17.
The network will be responsible for producing world-class feed and deploy its marketing commitment for the league, the statement said. Star had been broadcasting the league for the first seven years of the tournament credited with reviving interest in the traditional sport of Kabaddi and this was the first time Mashal Sports, its organiser, had organised a bidding process to sell rights for next five seasons.
Asian Championship: Deepak Punia Settles for Silver
Deepak Punia's defence fell apart in front of his idol and Iranian legend Hassan Yazdanicharati as the Olympic-bound Indian settled for a silver medal while Sanjeet claimed a bronze on the concluding day of the Asian Championship.
Deepak lost his 86kg final inside the first period by technical superiority as the Iranian's relentless attacks had the clueless Indian gasping.
It was the second time that Deepak was up against 2016 Olympic champion and two-time World champion but challenged him for the first time as he had withdrawn from the 2019 World Championship final against the Iranian due to a leg injury.

ITBP Sets Up Water Sports and Adventure Training Institute in Uttarakhand
A Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI) has been established by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at Tehri Dam in Uttarakhand. The institute was inaugurated by Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
ITBP's Mountaineering and Skiing Institute at Auli, will independently run this institution, which will impart training in aero, water and land-related sports and adventure activities.
Training in kayaking, rowing, canoeing, water skiing, para-gliding, para-sailing, scuba diving, paddle boating, speed boating, kite surfing, jet skiing, etc, will also be provided at this institute.
100-metre Champ Coleman to Miss Olympics
American sprinter Christian Coleman will miss the Tokyo Olympics after failing in an appeal to overturn his ban for missed doping tests.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport cut the 100-metre world champion's ban from two years to 18 months, but it won't expire until November, three months after the Olympics.
The panel of three judges said 18 months "was the appropriate sanction in the circumstances" because Coleman was not entirely at fault for one of his three missed tests in a one-year period.
