Unmukt Chand Becomes First Indian Cricketer to Play in a BBL Match
Former U-19 World Cup winning skipper Unmukt Chand became the first Indian cricketer to play in Australia's Big Bash T20 League as he made his debut for Melbourne Renegades.
Chand, a right-handed batsman, made his BBL debut against Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL.
Chand, under whose leadership India had won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2012 in Australia, retired from all forms of Indian cricket in August last year, making him eligible to play leagues overseas.
TCS Title Sponsor of Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Virtual Race till 2026
IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) partnered with Canada Running Series (CRS) to become the new title sponsor and official IT services and technology consulting partner of the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Virtual Race through November 2026.
This news follows TCS' renewal of its title and technology sponsorship of the TCS New York City Marathon, as well as becoming the new title and technology sponsor of the TCS London Marathon this year.
TCS and CRS aim to modernise marathon running in Canada through a new official race app. It will offer a first-of-its-kind calculator that will enable runners and spectators to track and offset their environmental impact. TCS will also work with CRS to create a hybrid and immersive race experience for all runners and spectators around the globe.

Goalkeeper Savita Punia is Captain of India Women's Hockey Team
Goalkeeper Savita Punia will lead India at the upcoming women's Asia Cup in Muscat as Hockey India named a strong 18-member squad for the event, including 16 players that featured at the Tokyo Olympics. Since regular skipper Rani Rampal is recovering from an injury in Bengaluru, Savita will lead the side in the tournament, which is scheduled to be held between January 21-28.
Indian women are the defending champions. Seven other teams competing at the Women's Hockey Asia Cup 2022 are China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.
Anand Chef de Mission for Commonwealth Games; Bajwa for Asian Games
The Indian Olympic Association appointed senior vice president of the Indian Olympic Association Rakesh Anand as the Chef de Mission of the country's contingent for the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held at Birmingham from July 28-August 8.
The IOA also announced the appointment of president of Wushu Association of India Bhupender Singh Bajwa as India's Chef de Mission for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from September 10-25.

Kohli Quits as India's Test Captain after Seven Years
Virat Kohli stepped down as the Test captain of the Indian national cricket team after seven years. He first led the national side in Test cricket in 2014 against Australia. He guided the team to an unprecedented back-to-back Test series wins Down Under. Kohli also thanked former head coach Ravi Shastri and former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his statement.
In 2021, India also finished as the runners-up in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. Kohli in 2021 stepped down as India's T20I captain and was subsequently removed as the ODI captain ahead of the South Africa tour. India also became a top-ranked Test side in the world.
Lakshya Sen Wins his Maiden Super 500 Title
India's Lakshya Sen secured his maiden Super 500 title by winning the Yonex-Sunrise India Open with a stunning straight-game victory over reigning world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in the men's singles final. The 20-year-old Sen, who had claimed his maiden world championships medal with a bronze in Spain last month, produced a fine performance to outshine the fifth seeded shuttler 24-22 21-17 in the summit clash.
In the doubles final, top doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty scripted a stunning straight-game win over three-time world champions Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia to become the first men's team from the country to win the Yonex-Sunrise India Open.
Australia Beat England by 146 runs, Completes 4-0 Ashes Win
Australia completed a dominant 4-0 Ashes series victory over England by winning the fifth test by 146 runs with two days to spare.
England, set a target of 271 for victory, crashed to 124 all in the last session on the third day at Hobart, losing 10 wickets for 56 after Zak Crawley (36) and Rory Burns (26) combined in a 68-run opening stand.
Australia won the first three test matches before England escaped with a draw at Sydney, where the last pair of batters survived the final two overs under intense pressure in a result that eventually meant the tourists avoided a 5-0 sweep.

AISCD Gets Approval to Hold First World Deaf T20 Cricket Championship 2023
The All India Sports Council of the Deaf got approval from the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) to host the first World Deaf T20 Cricket Championship in Kerala from January 10-20, 2023. This championship was planned to be conducted in 2020-21 but due to the sudden outbreak of coronavirus, it was postponed first to 2022 & now fixed for 2023. A minimum of eight countries are expected to take part in the championship and this kind of international event is being held in India with the approval of the ICSD for the first time."
AISCD is the only Centre-recognised national sports federation for the deaf, while the ICSD is the only international federation recognized as governing body of the deaf sports movement and Deaflympics sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee.

Tasnim Mir Achieves Becomes Under-19 World No. 1
Young shuttler Tasnim Mir became the first Indian to claim the world no 1 ranking in the under-19 girls singles in the latest BWF junior rankings. The 16-year-old Mir jumped three places to reach the top position in the junior world rankings in the women's singles category with 10,810 points.
With this achievement, Tasnim managed to do something which has never been achieved by any Indian girl, including two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu and London bronze winner Saina Nehwal.
