Kieron Pollard Announces Retirement from International Cricket
West Indies white-ball captain Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from international cricket though he will continue to freelance in private T20 and T10 leagues across the globe. Pollard, who made his ODI debut back in 2007, fittingly played his last series against India, a country which has become his second home due to his long association with Mumbai Indians.
While he is a feared T20 cricketer, one of the finest that the world has seen, his numbers for the West Indies remain underwhelming with only 2,706 runs at just above 26 and 55 wickets from 123 ODIs along with 1,569 runs from 101 T20Is at an average of shade over 25. He also took 44 wickets. One of the biggest six hitters, there wasn't a bowler in world cricket who didn't fear bowling fuller deliveries to Pollard in his prime and also the yorkers which would be effortlessly dug-out for straight sixes.

Cricketer Joe Root Steps Down From England's Test Captaincy
Joe Root stepped down as England Test captain following a run of poor results capped by dispiriting tours of Australia and the Caribbean. The 31-year-old was appointed as Alastair Cook's successor in 2017 and holds the record for the most number of matches and wins as England Test captain. His 27 victories put him ahead of Michael Vaughan (26), Alastair Cook, and Andrew Strauss (24 each). But of his last 17 Tests in charge, he won just one.
Root had been an exceptional role model during his tenure, balancing the demands of Test captaincy whilst continuing to shine brilliantly through his own personal performances.

You would come across some of India's craziest football fans in the district of Malappuram. During a tour of the district during the last World Cup, four years ago, this correspondent had seen houses painted according to the jersey colours of teams like Brazil, Argentina and France. One had also met a fishmonger, who sold fish at half the market-rate on Brazil's match days.
