Archery World Cup: Tarundeep Rai, Ridhi Phor Clinch Recurve Mixed Team Gold in Final
Pairing up for the first time ever, two-time Olympian Rai and the young Ridhi trailed twice 0-2 and 2-4 but held their nerve to close out the tie 5-4 (35-37, 36-33, 39-40, 38-37) (18-17) enroute their maiden gold medal. India thus concluded its campaign in the first event of the calendar year with two gold medals, the first coming through the compound men's team of Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Aman Saini.
Incidentally for the 38-year-old Rai, who won the Asian Games silver in Guangzhou 2010, this was his first-ever mixed team medal in the World Cup.
And for 17-year-old Ridhi, this was her first ever World Cup medal as the duo showed amazing character to come back twice and seal the issue in the shoot-off with two 9s. The British duo of Bryony Pitman and Alex Wise shot 9 and 8.
Vice President Inaugurates Khelo India University Games-2021 in Bengaluru
Vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated Khelo India University Games in Bengaluru. This is the biggest sporting event post Covid. Union Sports minister Anurag Thakur and Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai were among the guests during the inaugural event.
Acrobatics, laser show and cultural events depicting the heritage and traditions of Karnataka were part of the inaugural event. Commemorative postage stamp was released to mark the occasion. For the second edition of Khelo India University Games over 4500 sportspersons from over 200 universities will take part in 20 disciplines. Two new disciplines – Yogasana and Mallakhamb have been added to this year's games.

Mathias Boe Re-hired as Badminton Doubles Coach for Commonwealth Games and Asian Games
Former Indian badminton doubles coach Mathias Boe was been re-hired in a bid to strengthen India's Commonwealth and Asian Games preparations. The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) approved a financial assistance of ₹7 lakh per month to re-hire Boe until the culmination of the Asian Games. He will work with the men's doubles pair of Satwiksai Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty as well as other members of the doubles team.

FINA Suspends Olympic Champion Evgeny Rylov for Nine Months over Vladimir Putin Rally
Russian Olympic champion Evgeny Rylov was suspended for nine months by swimming's world governing body Fina after attending a rally in support of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Rylov, 25, was among a number of athletes present at the rally, hosted by Russian president Vladimir Putin at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium. They wore the pro-war symbol of the letter 'Z' on their clothing. Rylov won 100m and 200m backstroke gold in Tokyo Olympics 2021.

Fourteen-year-old Unnati Hooda Seals Asian Games, Uber Cup Berths
Fourteen-year-old teenage sensation from Rohtak Unnati Hooda secured her place in the Asian Games as well as Uber Cup by finishing third in the women's singles. Hooda is the youngest Indian badminton player to be part of the Asian Games squad.
A 10-member women's team for the Asian Games and Uber Cup consists of PV Sindhu, Kashyap, Chaliha, Hooda alongside Top-3 doubles pairs from the trials—Treesa Jolly-Gayatri P, N Sikki Reddy-Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto-Shruti Mishra.

Indian Wrestlers Harpreet Singh and Sachin Sahrawat Won Bronze Medals
In Wrestling, Harpreet Singh and Sachin Sahrawat bagged a bronze each as Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers concluded their campaign at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 with five medals, in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia. Harpreet defeated Korea's Sejin Yang 4-2 in the quarter-final before going down to Iran's Rasoul Sadegh Garmsiri in the semis by fall in the 82 kg weight category. In the bronze medal match, Harpreet was declared the winner after Jafar Khan from Qatar suffered an injury.

Wimbledon Bans Players from Russia, Belarus
Tennis players from Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to play at Wimbledon this year because of the war in Ukraine. Prominent players affected by the ban include reigning U.S. Open champion Daniil Medvedev, who recently reached No. 1 in the ATP rankings and is currently No. 2; men's No. 8 Andrey Rublev; Aryna Sabalenka, who was a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2021 and is No. 4 in the WTA rankings; Victoria Azarenka, former women's No. 1 who has won the Australian Open twice; and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the French Open runner-up last year.
Russian athletes have been banned from competing in many sports following their country's invasion of Ukraine. Belarus has aided Russia in the war.
Para-swimmers Win Big
A team of para-swimmers won 42 medals at the 21st National Para-Swimming Championships at Udaipur in Rajasthan. They won 28 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 8 bronze medals. More than 500 para-swimmers from 17 States participated in this event.
