Observed annually on 21st June, the World Hydrography Day highlights the importance of hydrography and its relevance. This important day was approved and implemented by the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) as an annual celebration. This year (2021), the IHO is also celebrating the 100th anniversary of its formation.
This day was observed and recognised because of the initiative of Monaco-based International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) that was founded in 1921. This organisation serves the purpose of facilitating talks between governments on issues related to navigation, technical standards and protection of marine life.
Every year the World Hydrography Day is observed under a certain theme, which is determined by the member states of IHO.
The theme for 2021 is "100 years of international cooperation in hydrography".
International Day of Yoga
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of 21st June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
On 11 December 2014, India's Permanent Representative Asoke Mukherji introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly. The draft text received broad support from 177 Member States who sponsored the text, which was adopted without a vote.

Father's Day
Father's Day is a holiday of honouring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph's Day since the Middle Ages. In the United States, Father's Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
Father's Day is a recognised Public holiday in Lithuania and some parts of Spain, and was regarded as such in Italy until 1977. It is a national holiday in Estonia, Samoa, and equivalently in South Korea, where it is celebrated as Parents Day. The holiday complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Mother's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.
In India Father's Day is observed on the third Sunday of June (This year June 20). The event is not a public holiday. The day is usually celebrated only in bigger cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Kanpur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune and others. It is a huge holiday in the North Eastern state of Nagaland where prayers are held in church on Sunday Services.
World Refugee Day
World Refugee Day is an international day organised every year on 20 June by the United Nations. It is designed to celebrate and honour refugees from around the world. The day was first established on 20 June 2001, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
The event aims to recognise the strength of the refugees who have fled the conflict and persecution of their country in hope of finding sanctuary and living a better life. World Refugee day builds the concept of understanding for their plight which shows one's resilience and courage in the rebuilding of their future.
The day is an opportunity for everyone to experience, understand and celebrate the rich diversity of the communities of refugees.
The theme for World Refugee Day 2021 is 'Together we can achieve anything'.

World Sauntering Day
World Sauntering Day is celebrated on June 19 every year. The purpose is to remind people to slow down and enjoy life as opposed to rushing through it. It is also sometimes referred to as International Sauntering Day.
The holiday was created in 1979 by W.T. Rabe in response to the growing popularity of jogging. It is believed to have begun at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan, USA The idea behind the day was to encourage people to slow down and appreciate the world around them.
World Sickle Cell Awareness Day
June 19th was officially designated as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. The international awareness day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.
National Reading Day
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) celebrates National Reading Day annually on 19 June. The Day is celebrated to honour the father of the 'Library Movement in Kerala', the late P.N. Panicker, whose death anniversary falls on June 19. In 2021, 26th National Reading Day is being celebrated. The week following June 19 will be observed as Reading Week and the entire month till July 18 will be observed as Reading Month.
The first Reading Day celebration was held in 1996. On June 19, 2017, Prime Minister launched the 22nd National Reading Month Celebrations and called for unity to spread the message of 'Read and Grow' among all the citizens of the country by 2022.

Juneteenth a National Holiday
US President Joe Biden is to sign a law to make June 19 or "Juneteenth" a national holiday. This holiday will be recognised by federal government to commemorating end of slavery after American Civil War.
Bill to establish Juneteenth National Independence Day was supported in both houses of US Congress and now needs to be approved by the White House to become law.
It was passed in the backdrop of killing of George Floyd that triggered anti-racism protests in US.
Juneteenth is going to be the first new federal holiday created in almost four decades.
Autistic Pride Day
Autistic Pride Day is a pride celebration for autistic people held on June 18 each year. Autistic pride recognises the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing about positive changes in the broader society.
Although Autistic Pride Day is June 18, pride events are often held on the weekend of that year for logistical reasons, but can be held at any time during the year.
Autistic Pride Day was first celebrated in 2005 by Aspies for Freedom (AFF), who selected June 18 because it was the birthday of the youngest member of the group at that time.

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
The United Nations General Assembly declared 17 June as World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the presence of desertification and drought, highlighting methods of preventing desertification and recovering from drought. Each year's global celebration has a unique, novel emphasis that had not been developed previously.
This day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/49/115 on January 30, 1995, after the day when United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification is drafted.
Each year World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought has a theme, the theme for 2021 is 'Restoration, land and recovery. We build back better with healthy land'.
