Pakistan Successfully Test-fires Surface-to-Surface Ballistic Missile Ghaznavi

  • Pakistan successfully test-fired a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile 'Ghaznavi', which can strike targets up to 290 kilometres.
  • The successful training launch of ballistic missile 'Ghaznavi' was aimed at ensuring operational readiness of Army Strategic Forces Command, besides re-validating technical parameters of the weapon system.
  • The training launch was witnessed by Lt. Gen Muhammad Ali, Commander Army Strategic Forces Command, senior officers from Strategic Plans Division, Army Strategic Forces Command, Scientists and Engineers of the strategic organisations.

India Tests DRDO-developed Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile

  • India has successfully tested the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-developed Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile off the coast of Odisha's Balasore district.
  • As per report, the missile flew for around 150 km with an indigenous cruise engine.
  • Earlier, in July India had successfully test-fired indigenously developed New Generation Akash Missile (Akash-NG), a Surface to Air Missile defence system in Balasore. It was the second test firing of the 30 km strike-range air defence missile systems in two days.

INS Kochi Participates in First Naval Exercise with Saudi Arabia

  • Indian Navy warship INS Kochi is currently participating in the first naval exercise with Saudi Arabia, reflecting the growing defence ties between the two countries in the midst of fast-paced developments in the Gulf region.
  • Al-Mohed Al-Hindi 2021' drill comprises a number of shore and sea-based exercises between the two friendly navies.
  • INS Kochi, an indigenously designed and built Kolkata class stealth guided missile destroyer of Indian Western Naval Fleet, arrived at Port Al-Jubail after conducting a naval drill with the United Arab Emirates off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
  • The exercise comes months after Army chief General M. M. Naravane's historic visit to Saudi Arabia in December 2020. He was the first-ever head of the Indian Army to travel to the strategically important Gulf countries - the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Russia, Central Asian Allies Wrap up Drills

  • The troops from Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan wrapped up their drills intended to simulate a joint response to potential security threats coming from Afghanistan.
  • The war games that began last week involved 2,500 Russian, Tajik and Uzbek troops and about 500 military vehicles.
  • The drills, which were held at Harb-Maidon firing range about 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) north of the Tajik border with Afghanistan, saw the troops practice action against invading militants. As part of the exercise, Russian Su-25 attack jets struck mock targets imitating militant vehicles.

ITBP Inducts Women Officers in Combat for First Time

  • For the first time, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) inducted women officers in combat. Two women, Prakriti and Diksha, joined the ITBP as combatised officers after completing their training at the academy in Mussoorie.
  • The passing-out parade was held at the academy and reviewed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. A total of 53 officers passed out from the ITBP officers' training academy.
  • Chief Minister Dhami and ITBP director general S. S. Deswal inducted the two women officers as Assistant Commandants, the entry-level officer rank in the paramilitary.

India and UAE Conduct Naval Drill

  • India and the United Arab Emirates carried out a naval exercise off the coast of Abu Dhabi, in reflection of a rapid upswing in bilateral military cooperation.
  • The Indian Navy deployed its warship INS Kochi and two integral Sea King MK 42B helicopters for the 'Zayed Talwar' exercise.
  • The UAE participated in the exercise with Al-Dhafra, a Baynunah class guided missile corvette, and one AS–565B Panther helicopter.
  • The naval exercise came a week after Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria visited the United Arab Emirates.
