India has launched a tech platform named "UNITE Aware", in collaboration with the UN, for improving the safety and security of the UN peacekeepers. The platform was launched in the presence of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the UN headquarters. The launch of the UNITE AWARE platform came as India assumed the Presidency of the 15-nation UN Security Council for the month of August.
India has contributed USD 1.64 million for UNITE Aware. UNITE Aware platform will provide terrain-related information to the United Nations military personnel (Blue Helmets) in the line of duty. India has developed the technology platform in partnership with the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Operational Support.

Navies of India, Australia Ink Document for Boosting Cooperation in Indo-Pacific
The Indian and Australian navies signed a document that provides for consolidating shared commitment to promote peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
The defence ministry said that the document, 'Joint Guidance for Australia-India Navy to Navy Relationship', is aimed at ensuring a shared approach to regional and global security challenges.
The Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) allows militaries of the two countries to use each other's bases for repair and replenishment of supplies, besides facilitating scaling up of overall defence cooperation.
India and Vietnam Carry Out Bilateral Maritime Drill
India and Vietnam navies have carried out bilateral maritime exercise in the South China Sea.
Accordingly, Indian Naval Ships INS Ranvijay and INS Kora undertook bilateral maritime exercise with the Vietnam People's Navy frigate VPNS Ly Thai To (HQ-012).
The bilateral interaction aimed to consolidate the strong bond shared by the two navies and would be another step towards strengthening India-Vietnam defence relations.
The Indian naval ships arrived at Cam Ranh, Vietnam for harbour phase, which included professional interactions with the Vietnam People's Navy, maintaining all Covid-19 protocols.
The sea phase included surface warfare exercises, weapon firing drills and helicopter operations.

INS Tabar Participates in Exercise Konkan 2021
The Indian Naval Ship Tabar arrived at Portsmouth in England, to undertake the annual bilateral drill 'Exercise Konkan 2021' between the Indian Navy and Britain's Royal Navy. The bilateral naval exercise Konkan is being held every year since 2004, to enhance the interoperability, synergy and cooperation between both navies. HMS Westminster of the Royal Navy took part from Britain's side.
China's Military Conducts Assault Drills in Seas near Taiwan
Chinese fighter jets, anti-submarine aircraft and combat ships conducted assault drills near Taiwan, with the People's Liberation Army saying the exercise was necessary to safeguard China's sovereignty.
China has stepped up military exercises around self-ruled Taiwan, which it considers its own territory.
According to Eastern Theater Command spokesman Shi Yi, recent U.S.-Taiwan provocations severely violated Chinese sovereignty.
The assault drills were held near Taiwan's southwestern and southeastern waters.
Taiwan's Defense Ministry said that it had fully grasped and assessed the situation in the sea and air, and was prepared to respond in each respect.
Bharat Dynamics, MBDA Sign Pact to Set Up Facility for Air-to-Air Missile in Telangana
Bharat Dynamics and MBDA, a European missile maker are establishing a facility for the final assembly, integration and test (FAIT) of Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) at Bhanur, Telangana.
BDL and MBDA, UK signed a licensing agreement to establish the manufacturing facility in the presence of Siddharth Mishra, CMD of BDL at a virtual ceremony.
Under the licensing agreement, MBDA will transfer the equipment and knowledge to BDL for establishing the facility. The facility is expected to commence operations by the year 2022-'23.
HAL Inks Contract for Supply of Engines for Tejas Aircraft
In an important step that will galvanise India's largest ever domestic arms deal – viz. the acquisition of 83 Tejas Mark 1A fighters for Rs. 45,696 crore – Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has ordered 99 engines worth US $716 million (Rs. 5,375 crores) for the indigenous light combat aircraft (LCA).
Since it first flew in January 2001, the Tejas LCA has been powered by a single General Electric (GE) F404-IN20 engine. HAL is continuing with that engine for its first 123 fighters. Support services for the engine will also be provided by GE Aviation, USA, as a part of this project.
This is largest ever deal and purchase order placed by HAL for the LCA.

US Army Endorses Tactical Drone Contest to Replace Shadow
The U.S. Army has given the green light to proceed into a competition to replace its aging, runway-dependent Shadow unmanned aircraft system with a new tactical drone.
The Army Requirements Oversight Council approved requirements for the service's Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft System, or FTUAS, in the form of an Abbreviated Capabilities Development Document, which will allow the program to move forward into a competitive prototyping phase.
The service has spent over a year assessing a variety of new and improved capabilities to replace the Textron-manufactured Shadow.

Russia and China Hold Joint Military Drills
Russia's Defense Minister hailed joint war games with China as a sign of increasingly close military cooperation that should expand further.
The drills were held in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
From the Russian side several Su-30SM fighters and a motorised infantry unit took part in the maneuvers.
The exercise marked the first time that Russian troops had taken part in joint drills on the territory of China.
