Rajeev Topno Appointed Senior Advisor to World Bank ED
Senior bureaucrat Rajeev Topno, private secretary to the Prime Minister, has been appointed as senior advisor to the Executive Director (ED), World Bank.
Topno is a 1996 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre.
Brajendra Navnit India's New Ambassador to WTO
Brajendra Navnit, a 1999-batch IAS officer, has been appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India (PRI) to the World Trade Organisation for a period of three years.
He will be posted at the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the WTO in Geneva, which is under the Department of Commerce.
Navnit, who completed his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, belongs to the Tamil Nadu cadre.
He replaced J. S. Deepak at the PMI, whose two-year extended term ended on May 31.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which approved Navnit's foreign post, also gave a nod to the appointment of Anwar Hussain Shaik for the post of Counsellor, at the PMI to WTO, Geneva. He is a 2000 batch IRTS officer. His appointment, too, is for three years.

Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee Passes Away
Filmmaker-screenwriter Basu Chatterjee, best known for directing films like Choti Si Baat, Rajnigandha, Baaton Baaton Mein, Ek Ruka Hua Faisla and Chameli Ki Shaadi among more, passed away.
Basu Chatterjee, along with filmmakers like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Bhattacharya, were pioneers of middle-of-the-road cinema.
Chatterjee worked in Hindi as well as Bengali cinema.
Raveesh Kumar to be India's next Ambassador to Finland
Seasoned diplomat and former spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Finland.
Kumar, a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, served as the spokesperson of the MEA from July 2017 to April 2020 during which he deftly articulated India's position on a number of sensitive issues including last year's Balakot strike, reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir and the controversy surrounding the National Register of Citizens.
Before becoming the MEA spokesperson, Kumar was serving as Consul General of India in Frankfurt.

Seasoned diplomat Gaitri I Kumar has been appointed as India''s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Kumar, a 1986-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, succeeds Ruchi Ghanashyam.
At present, Kumar is serving as Indian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union.
In her career spanning over 30 years, Kumar served in multiple Indian missions including in Paris, Kathmandu, Lisbon and Geneva.

American Sprinter Bobby Morrow Passed Away at 84
American Sprinter, the San Benito Buller, Bobby Morrow, one of the four men (Jesse Owens(1936), Carl Lewis(1984), Usain Bolt(2012 & 2016)) to win three events at a single game (100m, 200m and 4x100m relay) died of natural causes at the age of 84 in his home in San Benito, Texas. He was born in October 1935, in Harlingen, Texas.
He won three gold medals for 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in the 1956 Olympic in Melbourne.
He was named Sportsman of the year 1956 by the Sports Illustrated and he set 11 ratified world records during his entire career.

RK Chaturvedi assumed charge as Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. Chaturvedi has replaced P. Raghavendra Rao who superannuated on 31 May, 2020.
RK Chaturvedi is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Prior to this, he served as an Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Culture.
He has worked as Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and as DG in the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA).
Pradip Kumar Tripathi takes charge as Steel Secretary
Senior IAS officer Pradip Kumar Tripathi took over the charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Steel.
He is an IAS officer of 1987 batch of Jammu and Kashmir (JK) cadre.
Mr. Tripathi succeeds Binoy Kumar, who superannuated on May 31, 2020.

Music Director-Singer Wajid Khan Passes Away
Wajid Khan of Bollywood music composer duo Sajid-Wajid, credited with albums like Dabangg and Wanted, passed away in Mumbai due to complications arising from a renal ailment and COVID-19. He was 42.
Sajid-Wajid made their Bollywood debut with Salman Khan starrer Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya in 1998, and later went on to score many albums for the superstar's films, including Chori Chori, Hello Brother, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, Wanted and Dabangg (1, 2 and 3). Most recently, Sajid-Wajid composed Salman's "Bhai Bhai" single.

The appointments committee of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of PR Jaishankar as the Managing Director of India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL).
He will serve as the MD of IIFCL for a period of 3 years. He has earlier served as the executive director of the National Housing Bank.
Arun Singhal Appointed as CEO FSSAI
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Arun Singhal as chief executive officer of India's apex food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Singhal is special secretary, department of health and family welfare. He will succeed GSG Ayyangar who was briefly appointed as the CEO of the food regulator.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.
