AAI Airports Providing Platform to Self-Help Groups for Promotion of Local Artisans and Products ...

  • In the line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage the talent of women, artisans and craftsmen and provide them with the right opportunities, Airport Authority of India (AAI) has taken an initiative to allocate space to Self Help Groups (SHGs) at its airports for selling/showcasing the self-made products of their region.
  • Under "AVSAR" (Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans Of The Region), which is an initiative of AAI, an opportunity to help the indigent to mobilize their households into functionally effective self-earned groups for self-reliance and self-dependence, has been provided. Under this scheme, an area of 100-200 square feet has been earmarked at each AAI operated airport. The space is being allotted to the self- help groups, turn on turn basis, for a duration of 15 days.
  • Applications from self-help groups are received on AAI portal (Airport Wise) for allotment at airport in that particular state where the SHG's are located.

Haryana Fulfills Target of 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal' Mission

  • Haryana completed the target of "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal" mission.
  • Although the Central Government had set the deadline of 2024 to achieve this goal, the target of connecting 100 per cent households with "Nal Se Jal" has been successfully completed in the year 2022 across the state.
  • Not only was this, with this achievement Haryana was ranked among the top three best-performing states in the country under the "Har Ghar Nal Se Jal" mission.
  • This mission was implemented to make provision of water supply from tap to every household in the villages. Through this mission, a continuous effort was made to liberate women from the arduous task of bringing fresh water from far-off places by keeping vessels and utensils on their heads.

CM of Madhya Pradesh Launches Mukhyamantri Udyam Kranti Yojana

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the 'Mukhyamantri Udhyam Kranti' Yojna. Under the scheme, the state govt will provide 1 lakh to 50 lakh for MSME start-ups. The govt will give a 3% per year interest subsidy and bank loan guarantee fee for a maximum period of 7 years.

More than Three crore Houses Constructed Under PMAY with Participation of People, says PM Modi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Government reached an important step in its resolve to provide a pucca house to every poor of the country. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, the construction of more than three crore houses was possible only with the participation of the people. He said, today these houses equipped with basic facilities have also become a symbol of women's empowerment.
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) 2.52 crore pucca houses were built and under Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) over 58 lakh pucca houses have been built.

Weapons of Mass Destruction (Amendment) Bill

  • The Lok Sabha passed the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill, 2022. The Bill was passed to amend the Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Act, 2005.
  • In accordance with India's international commitments, the amendment bill was passed to prohibit the financing of the spread of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems.
  • The 2005 Act prohibited the transport, manufacturing, and transfer of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems.
  • The amendment of the act was necessary as in recent times, the various regulations that are in place and are related to weapons of mass destruction and their delivery system's proliferation by international organizations have increased. The Financial Action Task Force also has sanctioned the financing of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems proliferation.

IMF Lauds India's PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana Program which Prevented Extreme Poverty in Country ...

  • International Monetary Fund (IMF) lauded India's food subsidy program which prevented the increased prevalence of extreme poverty in the country during Covid-19.
  • In a report the IMF has said, the expansion of food transfers and subsidies make it an important instrument for poverty alleviation. Appreciating the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, the report demonstrated that the program provided insurance to the poor and prevented an increase in the prevalence of extreme poverty in the country.
  • It stated that doubling of entitlements in 2020 during pandemic helped maintain extreme poverty at the low 0.8 percent level. It also said, without any food subsidies, extreme poverty in the pandemic years would have increased by 1.05 per cent.

Parliament Passes Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022

  • Parliament passed the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2022 with Rajya Sabha approving it. The Lok Sabha had already passed the Bill. The Bill amends the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 for inclusion of certain community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tripura. It includes the Darlong community as a sub-tribe of the Kuki tribe in the list of STs in Tripura.
  • Replying to the debate on the Bill in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta said Tripura has 19 chief tribes and Darlong community is a sub tribe of Kuki tribe. She said the Narendra Modi government is doing a lot of work for the development of Scheduled Tribes in the country.

Property Cards Prepared in around 31,000 Villages in the Country under SVAMITVA Scheme

  • The Central Sector Scheme "SVAMITVA" aims to provide the 'Record of Rights' to village household owners possessing houses in inhabited areas (Abadi) in villages. Under the scheme, land parcels in rural inhabited area of all the villages of the country are surveyed. The scheme envisages socio-economic empowerment and more self-reliant rural people by facilitating monetization of properties through use of their property card.
  • After successful launch of the scheme during 2020-21 in the pilot States of Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh in Phase 1, SVAMITVA Scheme was extended through-out the country from 2021-22. So far, the Property Cards have been prepared in around 31,000 villages in the country. The scheme is envisaged to be completed by March 2025.
  • Land and Land Records is a State subject. The States/UTs incorporate appropriate provisions in their respective Land Revenue Act/Rules/Codes and/or any other administrative document for implementation of SVAMITVA scheme and issue of property Cards. Hence, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj has not taken any initiative for uniformity of State Revenue Laws.

Stand-Up India Scheme Completes 6 Years, Loans over Rs. 30,160 crore Sanctioned

  • Stand Up India scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 5th April 2016. The scheme was launched to encourage entrepreneurship at the grassroots level especially for promoting economic empowerment and employment generation among SC, ST and women entrepreneurs. Stand-up India aims to promote entrepreneurship among women, Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories, helping them to start a greenfield enterprise in manufacturing, services or the trading sector and activities allied to agriculture.
  • Stand-up India facilitates bank loans between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 1 crore to at least one SC/ST borrower and at least one female borrower per bank branch of scheduled commercial banks.
  • Rs. 30,160 crore were sanctioned under Stand Up India Scheme to 1,33,995 accounts up to 21.03.2022 since the inception of the Scheme.

  • The Bill proposes to strengthen the disciplinary mechanism under these Acts and provide for time bound disposal of cases against members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. The legislation also adds that firms must register with the Institutes by making an application to the respective Councils of the Institutes.
  • The Councils must maintain a register of firms containing details such as pendency of any actionable complaint or imposition of penalty against the firms. The Bill also empowers the three Councils to constitute multiple Boards and the Presiding Officer and one of the two members must not be a member of the institutes and will be nominated by the central government from a panel of persons provided by the Councils.

Parliament Nod to Bill for Unification of 3 Delhi MCs

  • With the Rajya Sabha giving its approval, the Parliament cleared a Bill to amend the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act of 1957 to merge the present three Municipal Corporations of the national capital to create one body.
  • The Upper House approved the Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha last week, vide a voice vote. The Rajya Sabha passed the Bill following heated exchanges between the BJP and Opposition members. Union Home Minister Amit Shah justified it saying it was aimed to ameliorate civic governance in Delhi.
