BCCI Bans Journalist Boria Majumdar for Two Years in Wriddhiman Saha Case
The decision was made by the BCCI Apex Council in response to a committee's investigation report into the charges levelled by Saha. The board's vice-president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and Apex Council member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia served on the investigation panel.
The ban includes not getting press accreditation for any matches in India, a prohibition on interviewing centrally contracted players, and no access to any of the cricket board's or state units' facilities.
Saha had alleged that he was intimidated by Majumdar for not giving an interview. The wicketkeeper-batsman had revealed all the details to a BCCI committee probing the matter. BCCI had formed a three-member committee in March 2022 to probe into the 37-year-old's allegations against Majumdar.

Ronnie O'Sullivan claimed his seventh World Championship title with an 18-13 win over Judd Trump to equal Stephen Hendry's record in the modern era. O'Sullivan, 46, becomes the oldest world champion in Crucible history, eclipsing Ray Reardon, who won his sixth title aged 45 in 1978.
O'Sullivan's triumph will add more fuel to any debate over who is the greatest snooker player of all time. The Englishman has now won 39 ranking titles, holds almost every major record in the game and will finish the season as the world's top ranked player.

JAIN University Becomes the Khelo India University Games 2021 Champions
JAIN University was the winner of the Khelo India University Games 2021. The University team topped the chart with 20 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals, followed by Lovely Professional University (LPU) with 17 golds and Punjab University with 15 gold medals.The swimming team of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) swam to glory with more than 20 medals in several swimming events. Siva Sridhar emerged as the star swimmer by winning 11 gold, while Olympian Shrihari Natraj won 3 gold medals while posting a record-breaking performance. Shrungi Bandekar won 4 golds in various women's swimming events.
Athletes and delegates from universities across India were overwhelmed with the hospitality at the JAIN Global Campus. These facilities included comfortable boarding arrangements and accommodations, catering services, nutritious food, and other entertainment and fitness facilities. The evening entertainment programmes filled with dance, theatrical plays, and musical nights won the hearts of every spectator.
A total of 20 games were played and participated by 3900 students from 210 Universities in the second edition of the Khelo India University Games. The Games introduced indigenous sporting competitions such as Yogasana and Mallakhamba for the first time in the history of national sports.
Dhanush Srikanth Wins Gold, Shourya Saini Bags Bronze in Men's 10m Air Rifle Event at Deaflympics
Dhanush Srikanth struck gold in the men's 10m air rifle competition on day three of the ongoing 24th Deaflympics at Caxias do Sul, Brazil, ensuring a golden start to India's campaign at the Games. Shourya Saini put the icing on India's cake with a bronze, finishing behind Korea's Kim Woo Rim in the eight-man final.
Hailing from Telangana, Dhanush trains at Gangan Narang's academy in Hyderabad. Under the guidance of the Olympic bronze medallist shooter, Dhanush produced a fine performance to win his his career's biggest prize at the Games.
Dhanush and Shourya, who were also helped by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) coaches Anuja Jung and Priti Sharma for the marquee sporting event, shot well throughout the day to emerge as deserving medal winners.
India Further Cement Lead at the Top in ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings
India further cemented their position at the top of the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings following the annual update. The Rohit Sharma-led side's lead over England on the top of the charts has extended to five rating points, from one previously.
India are now on 270 points, while the second-placed England have logged 265 points. Pakistam South Africa and Australia are the tied, fourth and fifth-placed teams with 261, 253 and 251 points, respectively.
India defeated New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka on home turf, under Sharma's captaincy. Sharma took over from Virat Kohli.

Nicholas Pooran is New West Indies White Ball Captain
Nicholas Pooran replaced Kieron Pollard as captain of the West Indies one-day international and Twenty20 teams after Cricket West Indies confirmed the captaincy. Pollard retired from internationals in April 2022, and Pooran, who has been the former WI all-rounder's deputy for a year took over. Pooran's appointment covered the T20 World Cup in Australia in October and the Cricket World Cup in India in October 2023. He has already led the team in Pollard's absence, a home T20 series win against Australia in 2021.
CWI recommended that batter Shai Hope becomes vice-captain of the ODI team.
Joydeep Karmakar Appointed as National Chief Rifle Coach by NRAI
Olympian shooter Joydeep Karmakar was named the chief national rifle coach by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and will be in charge of the Indian continent till 2025, including the Paris Olympics 2024.
The 42-year-old Karmakar had missed a bronze medal by a whisker in the men's 50-metre rifle prone event at the 2012 London Olympics. He said he understood his job will be scrutinised after Indian shooters returned empty-handed from the Tokyo Games last year and that his will focus as national coach will be on the mental strength of his wards.
Karmakar has been running his own shooting academy in Kolkata since 2015 and hopes to be the coach he himself did not have. Along with Karmakar's appointment, came the announcement of his retirement as an athlete.

P. V. Sindhu Wins Bronze at Badminton Asia Championships
Double Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu ended her Badminton Asia Championships campaign with a bronze medal after going down to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in three games. Sindhu started the match on a positive note but couldn't keep the winning momentum going, losing 21-13 19-21 16-21 to the top seed and world No. 2 Yamaguchi in the clash, which lasted one hour and six minutes.
This is Sindhu's second medal in the tournament -- she had claimed a bronze in the 2014 Gimcheon edition. The head-to-head between Sindhu and Yamaguchi is now 13-9 in the Indian's favour.
Santosh Trophy: Kerala Beat West Bengal in Penalty Shootout to Lift Title for Seventh Time
In football, Hosts Kerala beat West Bengal 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Payyanad Stadium in Malappuram to win the Santosh Trophy National Tournament for the seventh time. In a thrilling final, last evening, that kept the 35,000 odd spectators on tenterhooks, both teams ended the 90 minutes of action into a goalless draw, following which, the match headed into the extra time.
The teams were level 1-1 after extra time in a pulsating encounter. Two terrific headers from Dilip Orwan of West Bengal and Kerala's Muhammed Safnad in extra-time took the game to penalties. In the tie-breaker, Kerala converted all their shots while Bengal's Sajal Bag missed his, resulting in the hosts lifting the title. This is the first win for Kerala on home soil since 1993. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the Kerala football team for winning the Santosh Trophy.
Harshada Sharad Garud First Indian to Win Gold Medal at IWF Junior World Championships in Greece
In weightlifting, Harshada Sharad Garud scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the IWF Junior World Championships at Heraklion in Greece. She lifted 153 kilograms in the 45 kg weight category, which included 70 kilograms in Snatch and 83 kilograms in Clean and Jerk to finish on top of the podium. Garud left eight competitors behind as India bagged a medal on the opening day of the competition. Turkey's Bektas Cansu bagged the silver medal while Moldova's Teodora-Luminita Hincu won the bronze medal.
Before Harshada, there are only two Indians to win a medal in IWF Junior World Championships. Mirabai Chanu had won a bronze in 2013 and Achinta Sheuli won a silver medal in 2021.

Real Madrid Win Record-extending 35th LaLiga Title
Real Madrid clinched a record-extending 35th Spanish league title after its reserve squad comfortably defeated Espanyol 4-0. Rodrygo scored twice and Marco Asensio and substitute Karim Benzema added a goal each to give Madrid its second league title in three seasons, and third in six years. Veteran Brazilian Marcelo also reached a milestone with his 24th career title with Madrid, the most in the club's history.
Carolina Marin Wins Euro Title after Long Layoff
Three-time world champion Carolina Marin clinched the European Championships title for the sixth time, making a triumphant return after a knee injury sidelined her for 10 months. Marin, who injured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in June 2021, was unable to defend her women's singles crown at the Tokyo Olympics.
The 28-year-old won 21-10 21-12 against Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in the final.
Marin, who is ranked sixth as of May 2022, won the Olympics gold in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro Games after beating P. V. Sindhu of India.
Second Khelo Masters Games Delhi-2022 Held
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated 2nd Khelo Masters Games Delhi-2022 at Tyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. This game motivates youth and adults to participate in games and promote games in the country. It will also promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Khelo India.
Under this game, three thousand master players of the age group over 30 to 95 years, from 23 State and Union Territories participated in eight games.
PM Extends Best Wishes to the Talented Athletes Participating in Deaflympics in Brazil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes to India's athletes participating at the Deaflympics in Brazil and said the country is cheering for its contingent. The 24th Summer Deaflympics is being held in Brazil's Caxias Do Sul from May 1 to 15.
The Sports Authority of India stated that Team India has sent its biggest ever contingent to the games and before leaving for Brazil the contingent visited the National War Memorial.
The Deaflympics, also known as Deaflympiad, are a periodic series of multi-sport events sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee in which deaf athletes compete at an elite level.
