The Bengal Ranji Trophy team created a global first-class record when all nine batters, who took guard, scored half-centuries in a mammoth first innings score of 773 for eight against a hapless Jharkhand on the third day of the quarter-finals.
The match will be remembered for a record that stood the test of time since 1893 when the touring Australian team, in a first-class game against combined universities (Oxford and Cambridge), had eight of their batters scoring fifty or more. For Bengal, skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran (65) started the march towards milestone along with fellow opener Abhishek Raman (61).
This was followed by impressive knocks from Sudip Gharami (186) and senior-most batter Anushtup Majumdar (117). They added 243 runs for the second wicket. Bengal's junior Sports Minister Manoj Tiwary (73) also added his name to the list along with Abhishek Porel (68), who has not let Bengal miss Wriddhiman Saha for once.
RCB all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed (78) and Sayan Sekhar Mondal (53) also made half-centuries to complete an Indian cricket but when Akash Deep came and smashed 8 sixes in 18-ball-53, the global first-class record was broken after 129 years.

India beat Poland 6-4 in final to clinch the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s championship in Lausanne in Switzerland. Earlier, India first outplayed Malaysia 7-3, pumping in four goals in the second half in a stunning show before beating Poland 6-2 in the second match of the day. India, who had topped the five-team league standings with three wins and one draw en route final, ended their campaign with an unbeaten record.

Mithali Raj Announces Retirement from all Formats of International Cricket
Indian captain Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all formats of international cricket.
The 39-year-old Indian Test and ODI skipper walks away from the game after making her international debut in 1999 with 23 years of cricket. Mithali turned out in 232 ODIs, 89 T20s and 12 Tests over her career.
She scored 7805 ODI runs with 7 centuries and 64 fifties, 2,364 T20 runs with 17 fifties and 699 Test runs in her international career.
Mithali made her ODI debut as a 16-year-old back in 1999 against Ireland in Milton Keynes, UK. She led India to two 50-over World Cup finals as well in her illustrious career.
She is the only female cricketer to surpass the 7,000 run mark in One Day International matches. Mithali was the first player to score seven consecutive 50s in ODIs as well. She also holds the record for most half-centuries in ODIs.
Tokyo Paralympics Star Avani Lekhara Wins Gold with World Record at Para World Cup
Tokyo Paralympics champion Avani Lekhara won gold at the Para Shooting World Cup with a world record score of 250.6 in women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 in Chateauroux, France. The 20-year-old shooter broke her own world record of 249.6 to secure her a spot at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Poland's Emilia Babska bagged the silver medal with a total of 247.6, while the bronze went to Anna Normann of Sweden after she shot 225.6. SH1 category is for athletes with lower limb impairment for competition in rifle events.
In August 2021, Lekhara bagged a gold in the 10m air rifle standing event in the SH1 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. She followed it up with a bronze in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 event, making her the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at the Paralympics.

The Emirates Cricket Board will conduct the inaugural International League T20 from January 6 to February 12, 2023, with three IPL franchises owning outfits in the six-team league. Avinash Sable Breaks Own National Record for Eighth Time
India's Avinash Sable finished a creditable fifth at the prestigious Diamond League meet and in the process shattered his own 3,000 metres steeplechase national record for the eighth time.
The 27-year-old clocked 8 minutes and 12.48 seconds in a high-quality field, shaving off more than three seconds from his own previous national record of 8:16.21, which he set during the Indian Grand Prix in Thiruvananthapuram in March 2022. Sable finished ahead of the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Benjamin Kigen of Kenya, who ended eighth in 8:17.32.

World number one Iga Swiatek of Poland crushed American Coco Gauff 6-1 6-3 in the final to win the French Open women's singles title. It was the second Grand Slam title for the 21-year-old Swiatek, who also triumphed at Roland Garros in 2020. The victory on Court Philippe Chatrier against the 18-year-old Gauff, who was playing her first Grand Slam final, extended Swiatek's winning run to 35 matches.
