South Africa's Farhaan Behardien Retires from Cricket
South African white-ball specialist and former T20I skipper Farhaan Behardien announced his retirement from professional cricket.
Behardien played 59 ODIs and 38 T20Is and captained the Proteas in a three-match T20 series against Sri Lankan in 2017.
Predominantly a batter, he made 1074 ODI runs and 518 T20I runs, though it was his prolific run-scoring in domestic cricket which stood out. Behardien made his first-class debut in 2004 and scored more than 7,000 runs in 125 games with his highest being an unbeaten 150.
He had to wait eight years to make his South Africa debut and became a regular in the white-ball side.
He was part of the Proteas' T20 World Cup campaigns in 2012, 2014 and 2016 as well as the ODI World Cup in 2015.
He last represented South Africa in November 2018 in a T20I against Australia in Carrara.
Russell Domingo Resigns as Bangladesh Head Coach
Two days after the home Test series against India, Russell Domingo resigned as the Bangladesh head coach without completing his tenure that ran till the 2023 World Cup.
Domingo joined as head coach in September 2019 after the BCB sacked Steve Rhodes following the World Cup debacle that year. Under him, Bangladesh won T20I series against Australia and New Zealand at home, a Test in New Zealand (for the first time), an ODI series win in South Africa and at home against India.
Brijesh Damani Wins National Billiards Championship
Asian Games silver medallist Brijesh Damani won his maiden National Billiards Championship as he got the better of his fellow PSPB player Dhruv Sitwala in Indore.
The match was level till four games (2-2) when Brijesh accelerated to take a 4-3 lead. He then played all across the table to dominate in the eighth game and won the title 5-3.
Indian Oil's Brijesh had defeated B. Bhaskar of Karnataka and reigning World 6Red Champion S. Shrikrishna in quarterfinal and semifinal respectively.
Brijesh has six international medals, including a silver at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

Hockey India Signs Limca Sportz for Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela
Hockey India announced its partnership with the Coca-Cola company-owned Limca Sportz as an official beverage partner for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar - Rourkela from January 2023.
As part of the engagement, the low-sugar beverage Limca Sportz, a product of the Coca-Cola Company, will be supplying all the company's beverages across venues during the course of the tournament. Limca Sportz is a water-based sports product launched in 2022.

Cricket Australia Renames Test Player of the Year Award in Honour of Shane Warne
Australia's men's Test Player of the Year award was renamed to honour legendary spinner Shane Warne.
The Shane Warne Men's Test Player of the Year award will be presented annually at the Australian Cricket Awards.
Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Nick Hockley and Australian Cricketers' Association CEO Todd Greenber, announced the renaming of the award during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa as a tribute to Warne.
Lovlina, Nikhat Win National Boxing gold, Railways Lift Team Trophy
Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain and reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen registered contrasting wins to clinch gold, while Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) lifted the team trophy with 10 medals at the Elite Women's National Boxing Championships in Bhopal.
Assam's Lovlina beat Arundhati Choudhary of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) 5-0 in the 75 kg final, while Nikhat faced a stiff challenge from RSPB's Anamika in the 50 kg clash and won the match in her favour 4-1 to defend the title.
Football Player, Beth Mead Wins BBC Sports Personality of Year 2022 Award
Beth Mead was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 as she was the player of the tournament and top scorer at Euro 2022. Beth Mead defeated Germany in the final at Wembley to win England's first major women's football trophy. She competed against Ben Stokes and Ronnie O'Sullivan for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 award.
England secured their first major trophy for the first time since 1966.
They also won the team of the year and coach of the year for Sarina Wiegman.
England's Cricketer Ben Stokes was second with winter Olympics curling champion Eve Muirhead third.
Bethany Jane Mead was born on 9th May 1995. She is an English Professional footballer who plays forward for the women's super league club Arsenal and the England national team. At UEFA Women's Euro 2022, she became the Golden Boot Winner, Player of the Tournament, and top assist provider, leading England to win a major tournament for the first time.

P. V. Sindhu at Number 12 in World's Highest Paid Female Athletes 2022 List
Two-time Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu was ranked at number 12 in the World's Highest Paid Female Athletes 2022 list, according to Forbes.
Sindhu, who is a household name in India, clinched a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The shuttler followed her success at the Commonwealth Games 2022, winning gold in the women's singles event and silver in the mixed team event.
Sindhu is also the only Indian in the World's Highest Paid Female Athletes 2022 list of 25 sportspersons, with a total earning of USD 7.1 million. The Indian shuttler bagged gold at the Singapore Open Super 500 title earlier this year.
The 25-player list is dominated by Japanese star Naomi Osaka with USD 51.1 million. The four-time major singles champion topped the chart for a third consecutive year.
Sangeeta Phogat, Sarita Mor Win Gold at National Wrestling Championship
Sarita Mor (59 kg) and Sangeeta Phogat (62 kg) retained their respective championships on the last day of the National Wrestling Championships 2022, which lasted three days and took place at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
While Sangeeta Phogat, the wife of Tokyo Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia, triumphed against Delhi wrestler Sumitra in her gold medal contest, Sarita Mor, a bronze medalist from the world championships, upset Simran in the women's freestyle 59 kg final.
Harmanpreet Singh to Lead India at World Cup
Drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh was named the captain of the 18-member Indian squad which will compete at the FIH Men's World Cup, which begins on January 13 in Odisha.
Defender Amit Rohidas will serve as his deputy.
Harmanpreet had also captained the team in the recent five-match series against Australia, which India lost 1-4.
Midfielder Manpreet Singh, who had led India to a historic bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, will feature as a player this time as coach Graham Reid sticks to his policy of handing the armband to different players. In the past, Rohidas has also led India.
Shahid Afridi Named Interim Chief Selector of Pakistan Men's National Team
Former captain Shahid Afridi was named the interim chief selector of the Pakistan men's national team.
Afridi will head an interim committee of selectors that includes former players Abdul Razzaq, Rao Ifthikar Ahmed, and Haroon Rasheed.
For now, the committee selected the team for the home series against New Zealand that includes two Tests and three ODIs.
Both Afridi and Haroon are members of the cricket management committee, headed by Najam Sethi, appointed to run the affairs of the game for the next four months.
The newly-appointed 14-member committee had removed Muhammad Wasim as chief selector, a position he held since December 2020.
Sam Curran Becomes most Expensive Player in IPL History
England all-rounder Sam Curran became the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions after fetching a whopping Rs. 18.5 crore bid from Punjab Kings.
An intense bidding followed for Curran with Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings raising their paddles frenetically to secure the services of T20 World Cup player-of-the tournament.
In the end, it was Punkab Kings that broke the bank to get Curran, who drew highest-ever bid that bettered the previous best buy of Rs. 16.25 crore that Rajasthan Royals had shelled out to grab South African all-rounder Chris Morris in 2021.
Australia all-rounder Cameroon Green was second-highest earner, fetching Rs. 17.5 crore bid from Mumbai Indians.
England Test skipper Ben Stokes was the third-highest gainer, fetching Rs. 16.25 crore from CSK who pipped Kolkata Knight Riders in another intense bidding war.
Geto Sora Wins Junior International Badminton Championship Title in Malaysia
Budding badminton sensation Geto Sora once again made Arunachal proud by winning the Top Arena Junior International Badminton Championship title in the below 9 years category, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He won the championship title after beating Malaysia's second seed Jaryl Teh in straight sets 21-5, 21-16.
This is Sora's second international badminton title in two months.
In November 2022, he had won the multinational BTY-Yonex-Singha Championship, which was held at the Banthongyord Badminton School in Bangkok, Thailand.

Indian Female Wrestler Antim Panghal Nominated for United World Wrestling Rising Star of the Year
Antim Panghal, an Indian female wrestler, was nominated for the honour of United World Wrestling 2022 Rising Star of the Year.
By earning India's first-ever gold medal in the World U20 Wrestling Championships 2022 in August, Antim Panghal made history this year (2022).
On her journey to the top of the podium, Antim Panghal pinned Japan's Ayaka Kimura, defeated junior European champion, Amory Olivia Andrich of Germany, 11-0, and blanked U20 Asian medalist Altyn Shagayeva of Kazakhstan in the 53kg final. She also defeated Nataliia Klivchutska of Ukraine, who won the bronze medal at the U20 European Championships.
