SP-SBSP Join Hands, Give Slogan 'Khadeda Hobe'

  • The Samajwadi Party and the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party announced their alliance for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls and gave the slogan 'Khadeda Hobe', a call to "drive out" the Bharatiya Janata Party from the state.
  • The slogan is on the lines of 'Khela Hobe' (game on), which was coined by the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress for the West Bengal assembly polls that saw the party defeat the BJP and storm back to power for a third consecutive term.

India-Kyrgyzstan Hold First Strategic Dialogue

  • India and Kyrgyzstan held their first strategic dialogue in New Delhi and agreed to enhance security and defence cooperation to address common threats and challenges faced by both countries arising out of the situation in Afghanistan.
  • The Secretary of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, Lieutenant General Marat Imankulov, met National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in New Delhi for the first India-Kyrgyzstan strategic dialogue.
  • The two sides held discussions on threats and challenges faced by both countries as well as the regional security environment with special reference to Afghanistan.
  • The two sides welcomed the similarity of views on these matters, and agreed upon steps to enhance bilateral security cooperation between the relevant bodies, including in the fields of counter-terrorism, combating radicalisation, narcotics control and defence cooperation.

Jitin Prasada, Nishad, 2 Others Administered Oath in UP Legislative Council

  • Four new members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, including state minister Jitin Prasada, were administered oath at a function.
  • Besides Prasada, Sanjay Nishad, who heads Nishad (Nirbal Indian Shosit Hamara Aam Dal) Party; Chaudhary Virendra Singh Gujjar and Gopal Anjan Bhurji were administered oath by Chairman of the Legislative Council, Manvendra Singh in Tandon hall of the Assembly.

Govt Appoints K. V. Kamath as Chairperson of Newly Set up DFI

  • The government appointed veteran banker K. V. Kamath as the chairperson of the newly set up government-owned development finance institution (DFI) National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development.
  • The appointment has been done in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The government will also appoint its two nominees this week, and other board members would be appointed by the interim board of the DFI.
  • The DFI would have a chairman, two government nominees, and four whole-time directors. Wholetime directors will include a chief executive officer (CEO) and three other members.
  • Kamath was the first president of the New Development Bank (NDB), and headed the multilateral institution until last year.

SC Appoints Cyber Expert Panel to Probe Pegasus Snooping Allegations

  • The Supreme Court appointed a three-member panel of cyber experts to probe the alleged use of Israeli spyware Pegasus for surveillance of various people in India including politicians, court staff, journalists and social activists.
  • The top court urged its former judge Justice R. V. Raveendran to oversee the functioning of the three member panel and sought a report expeditiously from the committee.
  • A bench headed by Chief Justice N. V. Ramana said that it was inclined to pass an order appointing the Expert Committee whose functioning will be overseen by a retired Judge of the Supreme Court.

India's First Radio over Internet Protocol System Inaugurated in Kolkata

  • The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SPM) in Kolkata became the first Major Indian Port to get a Radio over Internet Protocol (ROIP) System. The ROIP was inaugurated by Vinit Kumar, Chairman of SPM. SMP, Kolkata has been constantly maintaining its pivotal position in Indian Major Ports for the past 152 years.
  • ROIP system is a long-range marine communication solution, to aid especially during storms and inclement weather. Using the ROIP mode of communication, the vessels at Sandheads can be directly communicated via Radio, from Kolkata. The solution shall cover the entire Hugli River Estuary from Kolkata to Sandheads, and will have base stations at 4 Locations: Kolkata, Hugli point, Haldia and Sagar Pilot Station.

Govt. to Set up Panel for National Employment Policy

  • The central government has planned to set up a committee for National Employment Policy (NEP), which seeks to create a roadmap for improving job opportunities in India.
  • The committee will comprise of representatives from Ministry of labour and other ministries.
  • It will also include prominent people from industry.
  • It will be a high-powered committee, of which views and recommendations will be taken.
  • The NEP seeks to create a sector-wise strategy to improve the potential of job creation by pulling investments towards employment-intensive sectors, attracting new industries by creating an enabling environment and by policy interventions. It will be created based on data from five all-India labour surveys and E-Shram portal for facilitating evidence-based policymaking to generate employment. Following the consultations, it will be sent for cabinet approval.

Government Invites Applications for Chief Economic Adviser Post

  • The government has invited applications for the post of chief economic adviser (CEA) to replace K. V. Subramanian, who will complete his three-year tenure next month.
  • Subramanian was appointed as CEA in December 2018.
  • As per the public notice dated October 24, 2021 issued by Department of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, officer of central, state governments, RBI and public sector banks holding analogous post on regular basis in parent cadres or department are eligible to apply for the post.
  • Candidates from recognised universities or recognised research institutions or central regulatory bodies and registered private institutions or financial institutions are eligible.

Yogi Government renames Faizabad Railway Junction to Ayodhya Cantt

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename the Faizabad Junction to Ayodhya Cantt railways station. Opened in 1874, the Faizabad railway station comes under the Northern Railway zone. It falls under the Lucknow-Varanasi section. Earlier in 2018, the Yogi Adityanath government had renamed Faizabad Ayodhya on the occasion of Diwali. The BJP government also changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj and Mughalsarai railway junction as Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction.

PM Narendra Modi to Attend Virtually ASEAN-India Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend virtually the annual ASEAN-India summit that will review the status of strategic partnership between the two sides and take stock of progress made in areas of trade and investment, post-COVID-19 economic recovery and connectivity.
  • Modi attended the 16th East Asia Summit to be held virtually that discussed matters of regional and international interest and concern including maritime security and terrorism.
  • The 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region, and India and several other countries, including the US, China, Japan and Australia, are its dialogue partners.
  • The East Asia Summit is the premier forum in the Asia-Pacific region to deal with issues relating to security and defence. Since its inception in 2005, it has played a significant role in the strategic, geopolitical and economic evolution of East Asia.
  • Apart from the ASEAN member states, the East Asia Summit includes India, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Russia.

PM Launches Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission in Varanasi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission worth Rs. 64,000 crore in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to address gaps and strengthen the critical health care network from village and block to the district and national level in the next four to five years.
  • Those whose governments remained in the country for a long time, instead of the all-around development of the country's healthcare system, kept it deprived of facilities. The PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission aims to tackle this deficiency.

Two UP Congress Leaders Join Trinamool

  • Two senior Congress leaders of Uttar Pradesh joined the Trinamool Congress in presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Siliguri in north Bengal.
  • The two leaders, Rajeshpati Tripathi and Lalitpati Tripathi, would carry on the fight to oust the BJP from power in UP and the Centre under the leadership of Banerjee, the TMC supremo.
  • Rajeshpati Tripathi is an ex-MLC while Laliteshpati Tripathi is former UP Congress vice-president and an ex-MLA. Rajeshpati and Laliteshpati are the grandson and the great-grandson of former UP Chief Minister Kamalapati Tripathi, respectively.

Kerala Wins Award for City with most Sustainable Transport System

  • Kerala won the award for the 'city with the most sustainable transport system'.
  • The award was given in recognition of the projects implemented — like Kochi Metro, Water Metro and e-mobility — to enhance the transport facilities in the city of Kochi
  • The formation of the Kochi Open Mobility Network, which digitized and integrated various transport facilities, also helped to win the award.

Harish Chaudhary Replaces Harish Rawat as Punjab Congress in-charge

  • Rajasthan Revenue Minister Harish Chaudhary is the Congress in-charge of poll-bound Punjab replacing veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The development is not sudden as Harish Chaudhary's name was being speculated as a replacement for Harish Rawat for some time amid the Congress's trouble in Punjab.
  • Harish Rawat is being relieved from his current responsibility as AICC General Secretary in-charge of Punjab and Chandigarh.

Harish Chaudhary is New AICC in-charge for Punjab

  • The Congress appointed Harish Chaudhary as in-charge for party affairs in Punjab, relieving Harish Rawat, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
  • Chaudhary, who was the AICC secretary for Punjab, has also been made the in-charge for Chandigarh.
  • Rawat had urged the party high-command to relieve him as general secretary in-charge for Punjab affairs in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

Centenary Celebrations of Bihar Legislative Assembly

  • President Ram Nath Kovind was Patna on his three-day visit during which he graced the centenary celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly building.
  • The President attended the centenary celebrations of the Bihar Legislative Assembly building, which hosted the inaugural session of the joint Bihar and Orissa Provincial Council on February 7, 1921, and addressed the members of the Bihar Legislature. All the legislators, including former MLAs and members of Parliament were invited for the function.
  • Kovind was the Governor of Bihar before getting elevated to the country's top position in 2017.
  • The Bihar assembly building, which is an iconic structure designed by AN Millwood and was called the Council Chamber in the beginning, has been exquisitely decorated for the event.
