Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched Schools of Eminence in Mohali and said that it is a revolutionary step for ensuring golden future of the students.
The Chief Minister said that these 117 schools of eminence being set up in 23 districts of state are temples of quality education. He said that the purpose of setting up these schools is to give wings to the dreams of the bright students of government schools.
These schools will enable the students to compete with their convent educated peers in various competitive exams across the country.
These schools will be named after great martyrs and national leaders, the chief minister announced.
Students Studying below Class 10 will Only Receive State Government Scholarship in Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh state government decided that students studying below Class 10 will only receive the scholarship amount provided by the state government. The decision was taken as the scholarship amount given by the Centre, under the Prime Minister Young Achievers Scholarship Scheme (PM YASASVI Scheme 2023), did not reach Uttar Pradesh.
This year, the Centre started PM YASASVI Scheme 2023. However, the scholarship amount for the same has not been decided yet. Due to this, for this academic session, students will not receive the same. From the upcoming session, the state government will begin distributing it to the students.

A. Vellayan Re-appointed as Chairperson of IIM Kozhikode's Board of Governors
A. Vellayan was re-appointed as the chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG) of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode for another four-year period. He was appointed under the IIM Act 2018. This will be his second tenure; he was first appointed as the chairperson in November 2018.
Under his leadership, IIM Kozhikode consolidated its position as the top 5 management institution in the country as per Ministry of Education's NIRF ranking.

Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2022 Report Released after 4 Years
The Annual Status of Education Report 2022 (ASER) revealed that almost all (98.4%) students in the age bracket of 6-14 years are now enrolled in schools. This national survey sheds light on learning outcomes in schools and is led by the Pratham Foundation. It was last conducted at this scale in 2018, so it marked the return of the survey after four years.
In ASER 2022, around 7 lakh candidates from 19,060 schools in 616 districts were surveyed to calculate the learning outcomes post pandemic on school children. The report revealed that there has been an improvement in enrolment levels of children in the age bracket of 6 to 14 years has gone from 96.6 per cent in 2010 to 96.7 per cent in 2014 and 97.2 per cent in 2018 to 98.4 per cent in 2022. An increase of 7.3 percentage points in government school enrolment in the period 2018 to 2022.
The report also showed a surge in students attending tuition classes. Between 2018 and 2022, in all states, there is an increase in the proportion of children who attend tuition classes. The exceptions are Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Tripura.

Mamata Banerjee Launches 'Medhashree Scholarship' for Minority Students in West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the BJP-led central government's move to discontinue scholarships for students of backward castes and minority communities.
She launched the 'Medhashree' scholarship, under which students belonging to the backward and minority communities will be entitled to an annual grant of Rs. 800, benefiting 2.63 lakh students every year.

Telangana CM Launches 'Kanti Velugu' Second Phase
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao launched the second phase of Kanti Velugu initiative, Eye Screening programme in Khammam district.
The Programme is considered to be the world's largest eye screening programme.
Three Chief Ministers from other states, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Singh Mann and Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and Uttar Pradesh's former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also took part in the programme.
Under the Kanti Velugu, free eye screening will be held at the special health camps for 100 days with 1500 medical teams. The first phase of Kanti Velugu was conducted for eight months by 827 health teams. The health camps commence on January 19 in the rest of the state.
Kollam Becomes First Constitution Literate District in India
The Indian district of Kollam in Kerala became the country's first Constitution literate district. The announcement was made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The district's success is the result of a seven-month campaign launched by the Kollam district panchayat, District Planning Committee, and the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) to educate citizens about the country's laws and their rights.
The campaign aimed to provide constitutional literacy to 23 lakh citizens belonging to 7 lakh families in the district. To achieve this goal, awareness classes were organized for around 90% of the people in Kollam.
