Narendra Modi Unveils 'SPRINT Challenges' Collaborative Project for Indian Navy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 'SPRINT challenges', aimed at giving a boost to the usage of indigenous technology in the Indian Navy.
Modi unveiled the initiative at a naval seminar organised to engage Indian industry and academia towards achieving self-reliance in the defence sector.
The seminar was organised by the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).
The NIIO, in cooperation with the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), aims to induct at least 75 new indigenous technologies/products into the Indian Navy in sync with 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' commemorating 75 years of the country's Independence.
This collaborative project is named SPRINT — Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence), NIIO and TDAC (Technology Development Acceleration Cell).

ITBP Creates 1st Mountain-Warfare Training School in Northeast for LAC Guarding Troops
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) created its first mountain-warfare training centre in northeast India, its second overall, to skill its troops in high-altitude combat and survival tactics as part of their mandate to guard the Line of Actual Control with China.
The facility came almost after five decades of the establishment of its first such school called mountaineering and skiing institute (M&SI) during 1973-74 at Auli near Joshimath.
The M&SI is located at a height of more than 9,000 ft in the Himalayan ranges of Uttarakhand.
The new centre was established in remote Dombang, abutting the LAC, and is located at a height of 10,040 ft in Sikkim that shares a 220 km front of the India-China LAC.
Indian Air Force Hosts AVISEM
The Indian Air Force (IAF) hosted a two-day Avionics Indigenisation Seminar, AVISEM-22, in Pune on the theme 'Indigenisation of Avionics Aggregates Based on Modular Open System Architecture Framework'. Avionics refers to the development and use of electrical and electronic devices in aviation.
Eminent scientists representing various laboratories of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), prominent contributors from the industry, senior leadership of the IAF from Air Headquarters and the Maintenance Command, and representatives from all base repair depots of the IAF participated in the event. Industry participants showcased their capabilities in the niche domain of Modular System Architecture Framework for use by the IAF to undertake indigenous development.
The seminar was chaired by Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command.

CM Introduces e-FIR Service and a Police App for Uttarakhand
The e-FIR service and the Uttarakhand police app were introduced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The State police's five online services are all integrated into the police app. Dhami, who spoke at the event, asserted that the app woudl provide better services to the public. On behalf of the government's policy of simplification, solution, and resolution, he noted that this is a commendable endeavour. This is a commendable effort to put Prime Minister Narendra Modi's concept of smart policing into practise.

These are Lakshya Nasha Mukt Uttarakhand, Meri Yatra, Gaura Shakti, traffic eye, and public eye.
Additionally linked to this app are the cyber hotline number 1930 and the emergency number 112.
Defence Ministry to Allow Private Companies to Develop Military Helicopters
In a major push to "Atmanirbhar Bharat" in military hardware sector, the Defence Ministry decided to amend the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) manual to allow private sector to collaborate with an Indian Defence PSUs with a majority stake and manufacture the required weapon system.
As per reports, this collaboration would be tested in the development and manufacture of Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH), which would ultimately replace all Russian built Mi-17 and Mi-8 helicopters in the Indian military's present inventory.
It is understood that Indian private sector companies have already shown their eagerness to participate in the project with the Defence Ministry telling them to start manufacturing in the next seven years. The French Safran has already signed an MoU with Indian HAL, to form a new joint venture company to develop, produce and support the IMRH engine including the naval variant.
INS Sindhudhvaj Retires after 35 Years
The Navy's Kilo-class submarine, INS Sindhudhvaj, was decommissioned from service at Visakhapatnam after 35 years in service. With this, the Navy now has 15 conventional submarines in service.
The traditional ceremony was conducted when the Decommissioning Pennant was lowered and the submarine was paid off after a glorious patrol of 35 years. The event was attended by 15 of the former Commanding Officers, including Cmde S.P. Singh (Retd.), the Commissioning CO, and 26 Commissioning crew veterans.
The decommissioning of the submarine was delayed by about a year.
Commissioned into the Navy in June 1987, Sindhudhvaj, was one of the 10 Kilo-class submarines India acquired from Russia between 1986 and 2000.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurate P17A Stealth Frigate in Kolkata
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the second P17A stealth frigate built by warship maker Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in West Bengal's capital city Kolkata.
The first P17A frigate called Himgiri was launched in December 2020 by Madhulika Rawat, the wife of the then Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat.
The contract for the construction of three stealth frigates under Project 17A is the largest ever order awarded to the shipyard by the Ministry of Defence with a value of over Rs. 19,293 crore.

Army to Conduct Trials of AI-enabled Vehicles in Ladakh
The Indian Army will start conducting trials of indigenously developed artificial intelligence-enabled unmanned ground vehicles at higher altitudes along the China frontier in Ladakh for surveillance and logistics operations.
These vehicles can be used for extreme weather and terrain conditions and can be used for logistics, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
The battery-operated vehicle, having day and night cameras, can be used to carry logistics such as weapons and ammunition up to 500kg and also as reconnaissance units to track enemy positions. These vehicles will provide live feed to commanders deployed along the Line of Actual Control.
Rajnath Singh Launches 75 AI-powered Defence Products in New Delhi
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched 75 defence products powered by artificial intelligence at the first-ever 'AI in Defence' symposium and exhibition organised by the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.
These products were launched as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations. Out of these 75 products, some are already being used by the armed forces while the rest are in the process of deployment.
These 75 products are in the domains of robotics systems, cyber security, human behaviour analysis, intelligent monitoring system, supply chain management, voice analysis and C4ISR (command, control, communication, computer and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) and operational data analytics.
