SC Gives Six Weeks to Expert Committee to Find a Solution for Ukraine-returned Medical Students

  • The Supreme Court asked the committee to present a solution within six weeks for Indian students who returned from Ukraine due to the war. There are nearly 20,000 Indian students who had to return to India mid-degree.
  • Following the earlier court order, the committee constituted by the Centre has already met once, Additional Solicitor General of India Aishwarya Bhati told a bench comprising Justices B. R. Gavai and Vikram Nath.
  • Last month, the apex court asked the government to form a committee of experts to find a solution for students. The Court also said that these students can be a national asset when the country is facing a dearth of doctors.

Mandaviya Unveils World's First Intranasal Covid Vaccine 'iNCOVACC'

  • Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the world's first intranasal Covid vaccine iNCOVACC and said that it marked a glorious tribute to the call for Atmanirbhar Bharat. He launched the vaccine in the presence of Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh.
  • The vaccine is now available on CoWIN, and priced at Rs. 800 for private markets and Rs. 325 for supplies to the central and state governments. Developed by Bharat Biotech, iNCOVACC is the world's first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine to receive approval for the primary two-dose schedule, and as a heterologous booster dose for adults.

IISc Bangalore Launches PG Certification Programme in Micro and Nanoelectronics

  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore launched a new PG level advanced certification programme in Micro and Nanoelectronics to equip the upcoming generation of semiconductor experts, who are prepared to benefit from the industry's rapid expansion currently being experienced by the semiconductor sector.
  • The progrmme was launched in collaboration with TalentSprint, an edtech company to meet the growing demand of semiconductor/VLSI professionals, or professionals having deeper semiconductor knowledge to interface with any electronics industry. The curriculum of the programme was currated by MSDLab, Department of Electronics Systems Engineering (DESE) at IISc Bangalore.

New IIT Campus Being Planned in South Goa

  • The Goa Chief Minister announced that a new IIT campus will be constructed in South of Goa. The government is currently working on finding a suitable piece of land for the new IIT campus.
  • The state government had originally designated property in Shel-Melaulim village in Sattari taluka of North Goa district for the construction of the IIT campus; however, the project was later abandoned as a result of violent local protests in 2021.

Prof. Bharat Bhasker Appointed is New IIMA Director

  • Professor Bharat Bhasker was appointed as the director of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA).
  • Professor Bhasker, who currently holds the position of Professor of Information Technology and Systems at IIM Lucknow, will take charge as IIMA director on March 1, 2023.
  • In the interim, the Board of Governors appointed Prof. Arindam Banerjee as the director-in-charge from February 1 to 28, 2023. The term of the incumbent director, Prof. Errol D'Souza, is ending on January 31.
  • Professor Bhasker had served as the Director of IIM Raipur from March 2017 to March 2022.

Banaras Hindu University Collaborates with Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence

  • Banaras Hindu University and Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence, Karnataka, collaborated for the promotion of studies and research in ancient Indian knowledge systems. The two varsities signed an MoU in this regard, paving way for a number of initiatives to further the dissemination of vast and deep ancient Indian wisdom.
  • As part of the understanding, SSSUHE is instituting Sri Sathya Sai Scholarship for the students of Banaras Hindu University studying Veda, Sanskrit, Vyakaran, Astrology and other branches of Hindu Studies, like ancient Hindu Art and Aesthetics, Culture, Philosophy, Polity or management systems.
  • Under the scheme, one hundred UG, PG or research students will be provided an annual scholarship of Rs. 25,000 on merit cum means basis. Such students will also get an opportunity to visit SSSUHE campus and Vedic learning centers. The visits shall be sponsored by Sri Sathya Sai University.
