National Start-up Awards 2021 Announced

  • National Start-up Awards 2021 was the second edition of the award ceremony, conceived by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). A total of 46 Start-ups were recognized as winners of the National Startup Awards 2021 along with 1 incubator and 1 accelerator, by the Government of India. They have been felicitated for their contribution in their respective sectors.
  • Some winners in the list:
  • State-wise, Karnataka bagged the highest number of awards, which included 14 out of 46 National Start-up Awards.
  • In fintech category's financial inclusion sub-sector, Bengaluru-based Naffa Innovations Private Limited (ToneTag) was declared the winner.
  • In fintech category's insurance sub-sector, Umbo Idtech Private Limited won the award.
  • In Robotics sub-sector, Sagar Defence was declared the winner.
  • In the women-led start-up category, Jaipur-headquartered Frontier Markets was honoured.
  • Over 2,177 applications were invited across 15 sectors and 49 sub-sectors for the award.
  • These applicants were evaluated against six broad parameters namely Innovation, Scalability, Economic Impact, Social Impact, Environmental Impact, and Inclusiveness and Diversity.
  • The National Start-up Awards recognize and reward outstanding start-ups and ecosystem enablers that are building innovative products or solutions and scalable enterprises.

Koozhangal Gets the Best Film Award at Dhaka International Film Festival

  • P. S. Vinothraj directed film Koozhangal from India won the best film award in the Asian Film Competition section at the 20th Dhaka International Film Festival which concluded in Dhaka.
  • Apart from this, four more Indian entries were included among the 17 awards given away for the films during the concluding session.
  • The best actor award was given to Jayasurya for Ranjith Sankar-directed film Sunny. The Best Script Writer Award went to Indranil Roychowdhury and Sugata Sinha for Indranil Roychowdhury-directed India-Bangladesh film Mayar Jonjal.
  • The special audience award was given to Aimee Baruah Directed film Semkhor. Best Actor Award went to Jayasurya for Ranjith Sankar-directed film Sunny.
  • Sujit Bidari directed film Aina Jhyal Ko Putali from Nepal got the best director award.

Twenty-nine Children Get Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave away the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 29 students from various fields, including Innovation (7), Social Service (4), Scholastic (1), Sports (8), Art & Culture (6), and Bravery (3) categories. There are 15 boys and 14 girls among the awardees belonging to 21 states and UTs.
  • The event was attended by the awardees and the concerned District Magistrate of their respective place. The function was held virtually on the occasion of National Girl Child Day today and also as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave digital certificates to the 61 winners of PMRBP 2021 and 2022 using a Block Chain-driven technology developed by IIT Kanpur under the National Blockchain Project.

Former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe Honoured with Netaji Award

  • Former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was conferred with the Netaji Award 2022 by Netaji Research Bureau.
  • Consul General of Japan in Kolkata Nakamura Yutaka received the honour on behalf of Abe at a function at the Elgin Road residence of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary.
  • Sugata Bose, the grand-nephew of the legendary freedom fighter and Director of Netaji Research Bureau, described Abe as a great admirer of Netaji.

Sushmita Sen Wins International Association of Working Women Award

  • Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen was conferred with the International Association of Working Women Award at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) 2021. The former Miss Universe was felicitated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a TV series for her show 'Aarya 2'.
  • The Aarya 2 series is created by Ram Madhvani and had released on December 10, 2021, on Disney+Hotstar. The DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) 2021 is organised virtually from January 16 to January 30, to showcase the best in alternative cinema from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and Sri Lanka.

Axis Bank & CRMNEXT Win IBSi Innovation Awards 2021

  • Axis Bank & CRMNEXT Solution won the IBS Intelligence (IBSi) Global FinTech Innovation Awards 2021 for the "Best CRM (Customer Relationship Management) System Implementation". It is one of the most prominent awards for global bankers and IT (Information Technology) consultants across the world.
  • The Axis Bank implemented CRMNEXT for sales and service modernisation and it also enables smarter lead processing, automated routing, complete tracking, and visibility. It identified and honoured technology players and banks for their excellence in banking technology implementations and innovations using emerging technologies.

Pfizer Chief Albert Bourla Wins $1 mn Genesis Prize for Vaccine Development

  • Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive of global pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc., was awarded the prestigious Genesis Prize for his efforts in leading the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The $1 million award is granted each year to a person for their professional achievements, contributions to humanity and commitment to Jewish values. As per the Genesis Prize Foundation, Bourla had received the largest number of votes in an online campaign in which some 200,000 people in 71 countries participated.
