Martin Guptill Leapfrogs Rohit Sharma to Become Highest Run-getter in T20Is
New Zealand opener Martin Guptill went past India captain Rohit Sharma to become the highest run scorer in T20 Internationals, during the first game against Scotland.
The talismanic batter achieved the milestone en route his 31-ball 40.
During the course of his innings, Guptill surpassed Rohit, who had become the highest run-scorer in T20Is (3,379) earlier this year (2022).
Guptill now has 3,399 runs in T20Is, 20 ahead of the India skipper.
Apart from Rohit, Guptill is closely followed by former India captain Virat Kohli (3,308), Ireland's ODI skipper Paul Stirling (2,894), and Australian captain Aaron Finch, who is fifth in the list with 2,855 runs.

England's Leicester Cricket Ground Named after Sunil Gavaskar
England's Leicester Cricket Ground was named after India's legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar. The Leicester Cricket Ground, the ownership of which lies with Bharat Sports and Cricket Club, decided to name the ground after Gavaskar to acknowledge his immense contribution to uplifting Indian Cricket to a certain height.
There has been a ground already named after Sunil Gavaskar in the Kentucky area of the United States of America (USA) and there is another ground going through its finishing touches in the Zanzibar area of the African nation Tanzania which is also named after the former Indian opener.
ICC Awards Membership Status to Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Cote D'Ivoire
The ICC awarded membership status to three countries during the ICC Annual Conference in Birmingham.
Cambodia and Uzbekistan from Asia, and Cote D'Ivoire from Africa, were all awarded Associate membership status, taking ICC's total members to 108 countries, including 96 Associates.
The two Asian teams took the total count of Asian countries to 25 while Cote D'Ivoire was the 21st country from Africa.
A major criteria to gain ICC Membership is detailed in 'Participation and domestic structures' of Clause 2.1 (d) of the ICC Membership Criteria. This includes having in place a proper structure with minimum team requirements for 50-over and 20-over tournaments, aside from clear junior and women's pathways.

Swiss Open 2022: Casper Ruud Defeats Matteo Berrettini in the Final
Norway's Casper Ruud won the Swiss Open Tennis Tournament 2022 held in Gstaad, Switzerland. He defeated Italy's Matteo Berrettini in the final by 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2. It was Ruud's 9th Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) title. The Swiss Open was Ruud's 3rd title in 2022, the other two titles are Buenos Aires and Geneva Open. Ruud had also won the 2021 Swiss Open title.
Ruud snapped the 12-match unbeaten streak of Berrettini, who lifted trophies in Stuttgart and London earlier this year. It was Casper Ruud 9th ATP Title. Earlier this year, Ruud finished as the runner-up at the French Open, losing to Spanish ace Rafael Nadal.
Sindhu Named India's Flagbearer for Commonwealth Games' Opening Ceremony
Double Olympic medallist badminton ace P.V. Sindhu was the flagbearer of the Indian contingent for the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who was also the defending champion in the Commonwealth Games having won the gold in Gold Coast four years ago, was expected to be the flagbearer.
But a groin injury following his silver medal at the World Championships forced him to pullout.
Tokyo Olympics medallists, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and boxer Lovlina Borgohain were the other two athletes, who were also considered before IOA decided to go for Sindhu.

Mastercard Set to Replace Paytm as Title Sponsor for all BCCI Matches
Global payments and technology company Mastercard is set to replace Indian digital payments company Paytm as the title sponsor for all international and domestic cricket matches organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The board has, reportedly, accepted Paytm's plea for the reassignment of its title rights. Paytm has been BCCI's title sponsor since 2015, and renewed the contract in August 2019.
Bisheshwar Nandi is Indian Women's Gymnastics Coach for Commonwealth Games 2022
Gymnastics coach Bishweshwar Nandi, who guided Dipa Karmakar to an unprecedented fourth-place finish in the Rio Olympics in 2016, was named as the Indian women's team coach for the Commonwealth Games.
Bishweshwar replaced Rohit Jaiswal, who was vacated from his position after gymnast Aruna Budda Reddy accused him that he video-graphed her without consent.
BCCI to Host 2025 Women's ODI World Cup
India will host the Women's 50-over World Cup in 2025 as the BCCI has successfully bid for the mega event during the ICC Annual Conference that concluded in Birmingham.
The ICC flagship event will return to the country after more than a decade.
The last time a women's 50-over World Cup was held in India was back in 2013 when Australian emerged champions after beating the West Indies by 114 runs in the final in Mumbai.
Three other ICC women's events were also awarded with Bangladesh hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup and England winning hosting rights for the 2026 edition.
World Athletics Championships 2022 Medal Tally
The United States topped the medal table standings with 33 medals overall, which included 13 gold, 9 silver, and 11 bronze medals. The total is also the most by any country at a single World Athletics Championships.
Ethiopia, with 10 medals overall finished second in the standings after collecting four gold medals, two silver, and two bronze, the same amount of total medals collected by Jamaica which ended with two gold, seven silver, and one bronze.
The United States, which hosted the World Athletics Championships for the first time, also dominated the points overall with 328, with Jamaica second with 111, Ethiopia (106) and Kenya (104).

Annesha Ghosh Replaces Sandeep Mehta as Press Attache for Commonwealth
Annesha Ghosh replaced Sandeep Mehta as press attache of the Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games.
Ghosh, a freelance journalist, was roped in to handle social media, among other things.
The CWG is scheduled to begin on July 28 with a total of 215 Indian athletes participating in 141 events across 19 sporting disciplines.
BCCI Introduces a New A+ Category for Umpires
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced a new A+ category for its umpires and Nitin Menon, along with ten other officials, were grouped in the category. Umpires in A+ and A categories are paid Rs. 40,000 a day for a first-class game while Rs. 30,000 a day are paid in the B and C category.
The others in the A+ category include four international umpires: Anil Chaudhary, Madangopal Jayaraman, Virender Kumar Sharma and K. N. Ananthapadmabhanan.
Rohan Pandit, Nikhil Patwardhan, Sadashiv Iyer, Ulhas Gandhe and Navdeep Singh Sidhu are also part of the A+ category.
Twenty umpires form the A group, 60 are in Group B, 46 in Group C and 11 in Group D which falls in the 60-65 age bracket.
World Athletics Championships: Armand Duplantis Breaks his Own Pole Vault Record
Armand Duplantis brought down the curtain on the World Championships in stunning fashion, breaking his own pole vault world record in the final act of the 10-day track and field meet in Eugene.
The Swede sailed over 6.21 metres to surpass his previous mark by one centimetre, set in March en route to winning gold at the World Indoor Championships, and completed his collection of medals by claiming a first world title.
American Chris Nilsen took silver with 5.94 metres on countback from Ernest John Obiena, whose bronze was the first-ever world medal for the Philippines.
