Mark Nicholas Set to Become the Next President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)

Delhi HC Appoints Former Karnataka HC Judge as Basketball Federation of India Administrator
Former judge of the Karnataka High Court, P. Krishna Bhat, was appointed by the Delhi High Court as the administrator of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to conduct elections in the organization. The appointment is effective immediately, and the administrator will continue to function until a newly-elected body takes charge of BFI. The court instructed the administrator to ensure that the election process is concluded as soon as possible according to the Sports Code. This decision was made in response to several petitions regarding the election of office bearers and executive committee members for the term 2023-2027.

Babar Azam Becomes Fastest to 5,000 ODI Runs
Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, set a new record by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He achieved this feat in 97 innings, breaking the previous record set by South Africa's Hashim Amla, who reached the 5000 run mark in 101 innings. Babar accomplished this milestone during the fourth match against New Zealand in Karachi.
Hashim Amla now holds the second position in the list of batters who reached 5000 runs in the fewest innings in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Viv Richards, Virat Kohli, and David Warner follow Amla in the list, having achieved the milestone in 114, 114, and 115 innings respectively.
Neeraj Chopra Wins 2023 Doha Diamond League
Neeraj Chopra won the Doha leg of the Diamond League with a throw of 88.67 m to mark his return to competition in 2023.
He won by a very small margin as Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch finished second with a throw of 88.63 m, just four centimetres short of Chopra's mark. World Champion Andersen Peters finished third with a best throw of 85.88 m.
Sable, Parul, Chithravel Set National Records
Triple jumper Praveen Chithravel shattered the national record and breached the 2023 World Athletics Championships qualifying standard in Cuba while Avinash Sable and Parul Chaudhary set men's and women's 5000 m national marks in a track event in USA.
Chithravel jumped 17.37 m to finish on top of podium at the V. Prueba de Confrontacion 2023 competition in Havana, Cuba, a World Athletics category F event, to better the earlier national record of 17.30 m set by Renjith Maheswary in 2016.
Sable and Chaudhary, both 28, bettered the old men's and women's 5000 m national records at the Sound Running Track Festival, a World Athletics Continental Tour silver level event, in Los Angeles in USA.
Sable bettered his own earlier national record of 13:25:65 by clocking 13:19.30 as he finished 12th in the race, while Chaudhary broke the earlier national mark of 15:15.89 which had remained for 13 years in the name of Preeja Sreedharan by clocking 15:10:35 for a ninth-place finish.
Olympic Silver Medallist Nijel Amos Gets 3-year Ban
According to the Athletics Integrity Unit, Nijel Amos, who won a silver medal in the men's 800 m at the 2012 Olympics, was given a three-year ban for doping. Amos, who hails from Botswana, tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 in the lead-up to last year's (2022) track world championships. However, he received a reduction on the standard four-year ban for admitting to the charges. Unfortunately, this means that Amos will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympics next year (2024) due to the ban.
Nijel Amos was provisionally suspended pending an investigation in July 2022, and his three-year ban for doping has been backdated to that date. Therefore, the ban will continue until 2025.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the logo, jersey, mascot and anthem of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2022 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.
The 3rd edition of the Khelo India University Games will take place from May 23 to June 3 in UP. The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 25 at the Babu Banarasi Das University in Lucknow.
The 12-day-long games will be held in the cities of Varanasi, Noida, and Gorakhpur, besides the state capital Lucknow.
Geoffrey Emmanuel First Indian to Compete in FIM JuniorGP
Geoffrey Emmanuel became the first Indian to participate in the FIM World JuniorGP World Championship. Geoffrey, son of seven-time National Champion Emmanuel Jebaraj, raced for Cuna De Campeones in his maiden FIM JuniorGP season. The first round of the 2023 season was held from May 5-7 at the Circuit de Estoril in Portugal.
The FIM JuniorGP World Championship is widely recognised as the final and biggest step on the road to MotoGP. It runs under Moto3 regulations and acts as a feeder class for the Moto3 World Championship. The championship has played a key role in the development of some of the most renowned MotoGP riders, such as Marc Marquez, Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia. In fact, MotoGP organiser Dorna Sports says that over 80 percent of the riders in the Grand Prix paddock have passed through the series on their road to MotoGP.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo became the highest paid athlete in the world, with a move to Al-Nassr nearly doubling his salary, according to Forbes.
Ronaldo joined the Saudi Arabian club in January 2023 after leaving Manchester United last year (2022)
According to Forbes, Ronaldo has an estimated $75 million playing salary and has cashed in on a number of marketing opportunities.
Forbes estimates the 38-year-old has earned $136 million from both on-field and off-field revenue in the past year, a total boosted by his move to the Middle East.
Ronaldo tops the athlete rich list for the first time since 2017 and sits just ahead of fierce rival Lionel Messi in second.
Kylian Mbappé is placed third, followed by NBA legend LeBron James in fourth, and Mexican boxer Canelo Álvarez in the fifth place.
Nepal Defeats UAE in ACC Premier Cup Final
Nepal emerged as the winners of the ACC Men's Premier Cup 2023 after defeating United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 7 wickets in the final match held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Nepal. WIth the win Nepal qualified for the upcoming edition of Asia Cup 2023.

Dubai to Host Inaugural Global Chess League
The world's largest and first franchise-based chess league will be held in Dubai from June 21-July 2.
The inaugural Global Chess League will feature six teams with six players each, including a minimum of two female players and one icon player per team.
The six teams will compete in a round-robin format where each team will play 10 matches.
Each match will feature six boards that will be played simultaneously.
The top two teams will qualify for the final and be crowned the 'World Champion Franchise Team'.
A joint venture between FIDE and Tech Mahindra, GCL aims to draw the world's attention to a new format and create an ecosystem for the sport, providing a platform for champions worldwide to showcase their potential.
South Africa Fast Bowler Shabnim Ismail Quits International Cricket
Shabnim Ismail, the fastest bowler in women's cricket, announced her retirement from international cricket. This is a significant blow to South Africa, who heavily relied on Ismail's pace and skill in their Twenty20 World Cup 2023 campaign, where they finished as runners-up. Alcaraz Downs Khachanov to Reach Semis
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz stayed on course for his fourth title of the year by powering into the semi-finals of the Madrid Open with a 6-4 7-5 win over Russian Karen Khachanov.
Defending his title from last year, Alcaraz will be looking to celebrate his 20th birthday with a win against either Croatian Borna Coric or surprise German qualifier Daniel Altmaier in his sixth Masters 1000 event semi-final.
Alcaraz reached 18 consecutive wins in Spanish clay-court tournaments since losing to Rafael Nadal in Madrid two years ago. His winning percentage on clay is already the third best since 2010 (82.3%), behind only Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Luca Brecel Wins Snooker World Championship Title
Luca Brecel, the Belgian snooker player, claimed his first World Snooker Championship title after defeating Mark Selby in a thrilling final at the Crucible in Sheffield, England. The match went down to the wire, with Selby putting up a strong fight back to push Brecel to the brink. However, Brecel held his nerve and eventually prevailed with an 18-15 victory.
