Delhi HC Chief Justice Patel to Head Telecom Disputes Tribunal
Days before his retirement, the Centre appointed Delhi High Court Chief Justice D. N. Patel as chairperson of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). Justice Patel retires as Chief Justice of the High Court on March 12.
Justice Patel, who hails from Gujarat, was appointed as a judge in March 2004. He was made Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in June 2019. He was earlier the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
Justice Patel would hold the post of TDSAT Chairman for a period of four years, or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
Aman Lekhi Quits as Additional SG
Senior advocate Aman Lekhi resigned from the post of Additional Solicitor General of India with immediate effect without assigning any specific reason.
Lekhi was appointed to the post in March 2018 and was re-appointed on July 1, 2020, for a period of three years till June 30 next year. He has appeared in various important criminal matters in the Supreme Court as well as in various high courts, including coal block allocation scam and 2G spectrum allocation scam cases.
India, Bangladesh Hold Talks to Boost Trade
Commerce Secretaries of India and Bangladesh agreed on a number of measures to increase trade by the Railways. They also discussed the issue of joint study on Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, improving "border haats" and harmonising standards, said a news release. The Indian delegation was led by Commerce Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam and Bangladesh team Senior Secretary in the Commerce Ministry Tapan Kanti Ghosh.

Ready for Alliance with Any Party Except NCP, BJP: VBA's Prakash Ambedkar
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi president Prakash Ambedkar said that he is ready to enter into an alliance with any party except the NCP and BJP.
Ambedkar was talking to reporters during a visit to Maharashtra's Nanded for a party meeting.
Ambedkar also criticised the Central government over its Operation Ganga to evacuate Indians stranded in war-hit Ukraine.
Andhra Pradesh 3 Capitals Row: HC Orders Amaravati Masterplan to be Implemented
The High Court of Andhra Pradesh directed the Government of Andhra Pradesh to take all decisions in accordance with Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) and complete the works included in the CRDA master plan within six months.
A three judge Bench headed by Chief Justice Justice Prasanth Kumar Mishra gave the final judgment after hearings in case relating to petitions filed by land owners of Amaravati against the State government's decision to have three Capitals.
The judgment comes in the wake of the State government withdrawing the two acts — The A.P. Decentralisation Act and the CRDA repeal act in November 2021.
AIADMK Unanimously Passes Resolution Seeking Return of Sasikala, Dhinakaran
The AIADMK functionaries unanimously passed a resolution urging the leaders to include expelled party general secretary Sasikala Natarajan and TTV Dhinakaran back into the party fold.
Later, the resolution was submitted to the AIADMK Coordinator and former Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
The split in the party is the reason for successive electoral defeats of the party. The re-union of party leaders would certainly help the party.

India Says All its Projects Fully Compliant with Provisions of Indus Waters Treaty
India and Pakistan discussed the exchange of hydrological and flood data at a meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission during which the Indian side underscored that all its projects are fully compliant with the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty.
During the 117th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission comprising Indus commissioners of India and Pakistan, held from March 1-3 in Islamabad, both sides discussed the issue of the Fazilka drain, and Pakistan assured that all necessary action will continue to be taken to ensure the free flow of Fazilka drain into the river Sutlej.
The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) is a water-distribution treaty between India and Pakistan, brokered by the World Bank, to use the water available in the Indus River and its tributaries. It was signed in Karachi on 19 September 1960 by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Ayub Khan.
President Ram Nath Kovind Inaugurates 'Arogya Vanam' at Rashtrapati Bhavan
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated a newly developed 'Arogya Vanam' at the President's Estate, (Rashtrapati Bhavan) in New Delhi. The objective of this Arogya Vanam is to promote the importance of Ayurvedic plants and their effects on the human body. The concept of Arogya Vanam has been conceived with the aim of publicising the importance of Ayurvedic plants and their effects on the human body.
Spread in 6.6 acres, the Arogya Vanam has been developed in the shape of a human sitting in the Yoga Mudra. It consists of around 215 herbs and plants used for therapeutic purposes in Ayurveda. Some of the other features of this Vanam are water fountains, Yoga platform, water channel, lotus pond and a viewpoint. This Vanam will be now open for public viewing.
Meghalaya Ninth State to Withdraw Consent to CBI
Meghalaya has withdrawn consent to the CBI, becoming the ninth state to do so in the past few years. The move comes despite the Conrad Sangma-led National People's Party being a part of the BJP's National Democratic Alliance.
Barring Mizoram, all other states that have withdrawn consent to the CBI are ruled by Opposition parties.
Earlier, besides Mizoram, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Kerala had withdrawn consent to the central probe agency. The withdrawal of consent means that the agency will not be able to investigate any case in the state without the state government's permission.
R. Priya Set to be Chennai's First Dalit Mayor after Quota Rule
R. Priya, a Post Graduate and a Councillor from Mangalapuram is to become the next Mayor of Chennai. She would be the first Dalit Mayor of Chennai corporation after the State government in January 2022 passed an order reserving Chennai Corporation Mayor post to Dalit women.
She would be the third woman Mayor of Chennai after Tara Cherian and Kamakshi Jayaraman.
Priya was elected from ward 74, Mangalapuram from North Chennai, making her the first Mayor from North Chennai. The North Chennai area lacks in basic amenities including drinking water, electricity, connectivity, and sanitation.

TMC Steamrolls Opposition in West Bengal Civic Polls
Riding on the momentum of its landslide victory in the assembly polls last year, West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress stormed to power in 102 of the 108 municipalities of the state as the opposition BJP suffered a complete rout in the elections that were marred by allegations of widespread rigging.
The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC bagged 1870 of the 2170 wards and 63.45 per cent of the total votes polled in a ringing endorsement for the party 10 months after its emphatic win in the state assembly polls.
The BJP, which lost much of its steam after the assembly poll defeat, managed to win just 63 wards across the state by bagging 12.57 per cent of votes but failed to win a single civic body.
Special Logo to Mark 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between India and the Netherlands
This year (2022) India and the Netherlands are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. To mark the occasion, Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs and Mr. Marten van den Berg, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India released a joint logo.
The logo features a lotus and a tulip – the national flowers of both countries. The chakra in the middle of the logo depicts the bond of our friendship and the flag colours enhance the connections that exist between the people of India and people of the Netherlands.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary, a large number of events and activities are planned during the year in a wide range of areas of cooperation including water, agriculture, innovation, energy, climate and culture.
To celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Netherlands presented 3000 fresh tulips to India, as a symbol of friendship, which were planted in the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan gardens.

Madhya Pradesh Govt. Creates Guinness Record in Ujjain by Lighting 21 lakh Lamps
Known as the 'Land of Mahakal, the temple town of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh created a Guinness record by lighting 11.71 lakh clay lamps (diyas), as part of the 'Shiv Jyoti Arpanam Mahotsava' on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
A five-member delegation of Guinness Book of World Records saw the mammoth effort and offered the record certificate to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Five drone cameras were deployed at the site.
New Motto of NCPCR
Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani launched the new motto of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, NCPCR on its 17th foundation day at Red Fort, New Delhi.
The New Motto is 'Bhavishyo Rakshati Rakshit'. The Minister also complemented the collaboration between NCPCR & Border Security Force for the initiative called 'SAHARA', which provides psycho-social counselling to children of BSF jawans who laid down their lives.
NCPCR is an Indian statutory body that was established by Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005. It works under the parent head of Ministry of Women and Child Development. It started operating on March 5, 2007.
