ISRO Demonstrates Technology for Quantum Encrypted Data Transmission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) demonstrated quantum key sharing in free space over a distance of 300 metres for the first time in the country. The demonstration included a live video-conferencing with quantum key encrypted signals between two line-of-sight buildings at Space Application Centre in Ahmedabad.
This experiment can form the basis for a future quantum key encrypted data transmission between satellites and ground stations. A satellite-based quantum encrypted communication can be used to create a network for sharing secret messages.
Quantum cryptography "future proofs" any data transmission as the encryption cannot be cracked by existing computers. The current data security – for sensitive information such as banking – depends on large prime factorisation problems. A present day computer will be able to tell that the prime factors of 6 are 2 and 3 but it would not be able to do so for a number that is big enough.
Indian Astronaut Candidates for Gaganyaan Mission Complete Training
Four Indian officers, who were selected to become astronauts to crew Gaganyaan into orbit, have completed their one-year training course in Russia's Zvyozdny gorodok city near Moscow.
The Gaganyaan mission is aimed at sending astronauts to space in an orbital spacecraft.
The contract for the training of Indian officers was signed between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Russian launch service provider Glavcosmos in June 2019. The four pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) include a Group Captain and three Wing Commanders, according to the IAF sources.
The training began on February 10, 2020.

India and France Working on Third Space Mission
India and France are working on the "Third Joint Satellite Mission" at the time when the bilateral space collaboration between both the countries is entering into multiple domains even in the human spaceflight programme.
Several French companies are interested to tap into the opportunities provided by the recent reforms in the space sector by the government. France is also the largest partner of India in Space. ISRO highlighted that, ISRO and French space agency Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES) have worked on the two joint missions namely the 'Megha-Tropiques' which was launched in the year 2011 and the 'SARAL-Altika' which was launched in the year 2013.
The officials also highlighted that, the ISRO and CNES have completed the feasibility study in order to realise earth observation satellite mission with the help of thermal infrared imager called "Thermal infraRed Imaging Satellite for High resolution Natural resource Assessment (TRISHNA)". Now both the agencies are working to finalise an implementing arrangement for the joint development. India is also working with the France on joint experiments & accommodation of the scientific instruments with respect to the space missions. Two agencies have also finalised all the interface control documents to accommodate the 'ARGOS' instrument of CNES in the OCEANSAT-3 satellite of ISRO.

The ISRO and NIT signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up the centre which will enable start-ups to build applications and products that could be used in future space missions.
Space technology-related research and the products from the S-TIC will be utilised in future space missions and will help nation building through Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' in space technology and applications domain.

NASA Successfully Tests its most Powerful Rocket for Artemis Mission
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) successfully completed Green Run testing of the core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, the largest rocket element it has ever built.
The test known as hot fire is a milestone for the space agency's Artemis I mission that will send an uncrewed spacecraft on a test flight around the moon and back to Earth for future missions with astronauts.
SLS is the only rocket that can send Orion, astronauts, and supplies to the moon on a single mission, claims the agency.

ISRO Gaganyaan
Data Patterns, a Chennai-based firm delivered a crucial component that is meant to be used in Gaganyaan, which is India's ambitious human spaceflight programme. The checkout system, which was delivered to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), is meant to perform health checks of the various cable harness assemblies used in the Crew Module, which houses the astronauts.
The handing over ceremony took place at Data Patterns' facility near Chennai, in the presence of Dr. S Unnikrishnan Nair, Director, Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) among others. According to the private firm, the component was delivered within four months, against the typical schedule of twelve months.
During its three decade-long association with ISRO, Data Patterns has supplied the 14000 point countdown checkout system for the second launch pad, upgraded the launch vehicle tracking radars, supplied the X-Band and C-Band weather radars.
India Top Country in World in Use of Mobile Apps
IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed the Rajya Sabha that India has become the top country in the world in the use of mobile applications and the government is encouraging and promoting Indian innovators to create apps.
Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour, he said that the Digital India programme coupled with encouragement being given by the government to promote Indian innovators to create apps has of late become a big movement.
A Gargantuan Supernova Remnant Looks 40 Times as Big as the Full Moon
A cloud of expanding gas in space is the largest supernova remnant ever seen in the sky, a new study confirms.
The Milky Way has some 300 known supernova remnants, each made of debris from an exploded star mixed with interstellar material swept up by the blast.
This supersized one, located in the constellation Antlia, is not necessarily the biggest of all physically, but thanks to its proximity to us, it looks the biggest. As seen from Earth, it spans a region of sky more than 40 times the size of a full moon. The Antlia remnant appears about three times as large as the previous champion, the Vela supernova remnant.
The star that created the Antlia supernova remnant exploded roughly 100,000 years ago.
