'Miyan ka Bada' Railway Station Renamed as 'Mahesh Nagar Halt' in Rajasthan's Barmer

  • The name of a railway station in Rajasthan's Barmer district was changed, with the inauguration ceremony of the renamed station being attended by Union Ministers and government officials. According to officials, the name of the Mian Ka Bada village under the Samdari Panchayat Samiti was changed to Mahesh Nagar in 2018 by the then BJP government in the state and changes were made in the state revenue records as well.
  • The renaming of the railway station is done by the central government and the railway board. After the name of the village was changed, proposals were sent to the railway ministry for renaming the station.

Railway Ministry Signs MoU with Centre for Development of Telematics to Modernise Telecommunicati...

  • The Ministry of Railways and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to form a strong collaborative working partnership for coordination and resource sharing in the provision of telecommunication facilities in the delivery and implementation of C-Telecom DOT's Solutions and services in railways.
  • This MoU will allow C-DOT and the Ministry of Railways to collaborate on telecommunications modernization in Indian Railways for Public Safety and Security Services using Long Term Evolution (LTE-R) for Railways in accordance with world standards, 5G Use Cases in Indian Railways in accordance with Make in India policy, Internet of Things, Unified Network Management System, Network Management System, Video Conference software, Chatting application, Routers and Switches.

Bijli Utsav' Organised by REC in Three States as Part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

  • As part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' – to celebrate 75 years of India's Independence, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, a public infrastructure finance company under the Ministry of Power organised a 'Bijli Utsav' in the states of Manipur, Odisha and Chattisgarh. The day also marked the fourth anniversary of successfully providing access to electricity infrastructure to all villages under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY). As a mark of the occasion, Leisang Village of Manipur was one of the villages where the event was held since it was the last village to be connected to the grid under the DDUGJY Scheme. The village electrification drive of the country was also recognized as one of the greatest success stories by the International Energy Agency.

Integrated Election Complex with State-of-art Infrastructure Inaugurated by CEC Sushil Chandra

  • Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sushil Chandra along with Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey inaugurated the Integrated Election Complex at Bakhtawarpur, Delhi for warehousing and management of EVMs & VVPATs of NCT of Delhi. The Integrated Election Complex was built by the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited (DTTDC) is the executing agency for the project.
  • The first of its kind, integrated complex is a multi-functional state-of-the-art facility aimed at modernising the warehousing and management of EVMs and VVPATs. The IEC has sufficient storage capacity for EVMs & VVPATs to serve as the State Level Warehouse covering all 11 districts of NCT of Delhi.

ReNew Power Inks 5 PPAs to Supply around 1500 MW Solar Energy

  • ReNew Power signed five power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the supply of around 1,500 MW electricity generated from solar plants. The company signed PPAs with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL), as well as multiple long-term purchase agreements with corporate buyers together totalling around 2 GW. The new utility solar projects will be located in the western state of Rajasthan and have flat tariffs over 25 years.

7th International Conference of Pharma and Medical Devices Sector

  • Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the 7th edition of International conference on Pharma and Medical Devices sector 2022. The annual flagship three-day conference was held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.
  • This year, the India Pharma was planned around the theme: 'India Pharma-Vision 2047: Transformative agenda for future'. For India Medical Device, the theme is 'Transforming Healthcare through Innovation & Integrated Services'. The discussions planned in a span of 3 days will bring in new opportunities and ideas to make India, the global leader in quality medicines and to ensure the availability, accessibility, and affordability of drugs and medical devices in the country.

Reserved Category Candidates are Entitled to General Seats on the Basis of Merit

  • The Supreme Court held that the reserved category candidates securing higher marks than the last of the general category candidates are entitled to get a seat/post in the General Category.
  • The Supreme Court was dealing with an appeal by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) against an order of the Rajasthan High Court which had held that the selection of the two reserved category candidates was required to be adjusted against the general category since they had scored more than the last of the general category candidates appointed, according to Bar & Bench.
  • The candidates belonging to reserved categories can as well stake claim to seats in unreserved categories if their merit and position in the merit list entitles them to do so, the bench comprising Justices MR Shah and BV Nagarathna observed.

PM Inaugurates Global Patidar Business Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Patidar Business Summit (GPBS) in Surat Gujarat via video conferencing. Sardardham is organizing GPBS under Mission-2026 to provide an impetus to the socio-economic development of Patidar community. The Summit is organized every two years. The first two Summits were held in Gandhinagar in 2018 and 2020 and the current Summit is now being held in Surat. The main theme of GPBS-2022 is Aatmanirbhar Community to Aatmanirbhar Gujarat and India.
  • The Summit aims to bring together small, medium and large enterprises within the community; nurture and support new entrepreneurs and provide training and employment assistance to the educated youth.

Vijay Sampla Appointed NCSC Chairperson for Second Time

  • BJP leader and former Union Minister Vijay Sampla was appointed as the chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) for a second time. Sampla had resigned as the NCSC chairman ahead of the Punjab elections and had contested the polls. The official order for his appointment was issued by President Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Sampla, a prominent Dalit politician from Punjab, began his political career in 1998 as the sarpanch of Sofipind village in Jalandhar Cantonment. He has also served in the Punjab government. He was the chairman of Punjab Khadi Board from 2008 to 2012 and the chairman of the Punjab State Forest Development Corporation in 2014. He was then elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur, and became a Union Minister in 2015.

Cabinet Approves 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project in Jammu & Kashmir

  • The Centre approved Rs. 4,526.12 crore for the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project will generate 1,975.54 million units of electricity with 90 per cent dependability in a year. It will be jointly commissioned by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) in 54 months. The project would provide direct and indirect employment to about 2,700 people and it would be implemented by Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL).

UP's Agra Becomes First City to Have Vacuum-based Sewer Systems

  • Agra, Uttar Pradesh became the first city in the country to have vacuum-based sewer systems. These vacuums would be used in public places. Agra Smart City officials told the media that the municipal corporation has linked 240 such houses near the Taj Mahal with vacuum-based sewers, where conventional sewer systems could not be used.
  • The estimated cost for the work of sewer connection is Rs. 100 crore. Presently, this technology is being used in low-lying areas. The Maintenance and complete care will be done by the Netherlands company for up to five years. A vacuum sewer network of 240 houses has been constructed at Rs. 5 crore. All the chambers are equipped with geographic information system (GIS) based sensors, which will help pinpoint the area of the chamber and the problem.

IndiGo Becomes First Airline to Land Aircraft Using Indigenous Navigation System GAGAN

  • IndiGo became the first airline in the country to land aircraft using the indigenous navigation system GAGAN. The flight was conducted using an ATR-72 aircraft and landed at the Kishangarh airport in Rajasthan on April 27 morning, using GPS-aided geo-augmented navigation (GAGAN), which has been jointly developed by the Centre-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
  • GAGAN is used to provide lateral and vertical guidance when an aircraft is approaching a runway for landing. Its precision is especially useful at small airports where the instrument landing system (ILS) has not been installed.

Union Minister Shri Giriraj Singh Launches 90-day Campaign 'Azadi Se Antyodaya Tak'

  • The Centre launched a 90-day campaign, "Azadi Se Antyodaya Tak", with a mission to saturate 75 districts, including three each from Haryana and Punjab and one from Himachal Pradesh, with beneficiary schemes of nine Central Ministries. These districts are from 28 states/UTs.
  • Celebrating the spirit of the year-long Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the identified districts are aligned with the birth place of 99 freedom fighters.
  • Inaugurating the campaign, Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh said that the goal of the campaign is to take up 17 select schemes with direct assistance to beneficiaries in saturation mode, reaching out to the person at the bottom of the pyramid in rural areas by each of the participating ministries/departments.

Cabinet Approves Upgradation of 2G Mobile Sites to 4G at Security Sites in Left Wing Extremism (L...

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved a Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) project for upgrading 2G mobile services to 4G at security sites in LWE areas. The Project envisages upgrading 2,343 left Wing Extremism Phase-I sites from 2G to 4G mobile services at an estimated cost of Rs.1,884.59 crore (Excluding taxes and levies).
  • Government chose BSNL for a prestigious project to indigenous 4G telecom equipment so as to achieve self-reliance in the telecom gear segment to fulfil domestic market needs apart from exporting to other markets. This 4G equipment will be deployed in this project also.

  • Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt General Gurmit Singh flagged-off the "BRO@63" Multi-Dimensional Expedition from Dehradun. The expedition, a tribute to the grit & determination of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Karamyogis, was organised as part of the events leading to the 63rd Raising Day of the organisation, which is slated on May 07, 2022. It is also one, in the series of events organised by the BRO celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
  • The Multi-dimensional Expedition includes four distinct activities, i.e., a Mountaineering Trek to the 15,000 feet Pangarchula Peak covering a distance of approximately 50 Kilometres, River Rafting in the rapids of River Ganga for 35 Kilometres, Cyclothon from Dehradun to Delhi via Chandigarh covering a distance of 591 Kilometres and Fit BRO Endurance Run from Roorkee to Delhi covering a distance of 211 Kilometres.

  • Veteran Congress leader A.K. Antony bid farewell to parliamentary politics and Delhi after spending 38 years in five stints in the Rajya Sabha. At 81 years, with a formidable CV behind him, the former Defence Minister want to slowly withdraw from national politics too. For now, he will continue in all positions within the Congress, including the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
  • He came to Delhi for the first time in 1973 as a 33-year-old Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president (elect) to meet Indira Gandhi. He was the youngest president of the Kerala unit, a record that still remains unbroken.
