Tobi Amusan Breaks World Record in 100m Hurdles Semis, Claims Gold in Final
Nigeria's Tobi Amusan broke the women's 100m hurdles world record after a spectacular performance in the semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.
After breaking the world record, she also went on to win gold in the final clash.
The Nigerian was competed in the very first race of Day 10 of the championships when she breezed past the line in the new world record of 12.12, breaking the previous mark of 12.20 by 0.08 seconds.
Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver in World Athletics Championships
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra scripted yet another history as he became only the second Indian and first male track and field athlete to win a medal in the World Athletics Championships by clinching silver in the javelin throw final.
Chopra who had come into the showpiece as a hot medal favourite, produced a best throw of 88.13m to finish second.
The legendary long jumper Anju Bobby George was the first Indian to win a medal -- bronze -- in the World Athletics Championships in the 2003 edition in Paris.
Defending champion Anderson Peters of Grenada won gold with a best throw of 90.54m while Olympic silver winner Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic took the bronze with 88.09m.
Eldhose Paul Becomes First Indian to Qualify for Triple Jump Final & Finishes 9th
Eldhose Paul, the first Indian triple jumper to compete in a World Athletics Championships final, put on a commendable display to finish ninth at the 2022 meet.
Paul, who produced a best attempt of 16.68m in the qualifiers to squeeze through into the 12-man final, began with a 16.37m jump in his first attempt. With his second attempt, he improved his mark to 16.79m — just 0.20m short of his personal best of 16.99m logged at the Federation Cup earlier this year.
However, the Indian jumper posted a disappointing 13.86m with his third jump and narrowly missed out on a top eight placement after the third round, which meant he couldn't get the three additional attempts.
Tokyo 2020 champion Pedro Pichardo won the gold medal with a world-leading mark of 17.95m. Burkina Faso's Hugues Fabrice Zango, the Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, clinched silver with 17.55m while the bronze went to China's Yaming Zhu, the Tokyo silver medallist.

Jamaica's Sherika Jackson Wins 200m Worlds with Second-fastest Time Ever
Shericka Jackson gave the Jamaican women another gold medal in the sprints, capturing the 200-meter title at the world championships in the second-fastest time in history, 21.45 seconds.
Jackson crossed 0.16 seconds ahead of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won the 100m.
Jackson's time was second only to one of the most hallowed marks on the books the 21.34 by Florence Griffith-Joyner at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. It blew away the old world-championship record of 21.63 set by Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands.

Nepali Sherpa Sets Climbing Record on Pakistan Mountain
Sanu Sherpa a Nepali sherpa set a climbing record by scaling all the world's 14 peaks that are higher than 8,000 metres (26,247 ft) for a second time.
Sanu Sherpa, from Sankhuwasabha district in east Nepal, reached the top of Pakistan's Gasherbrum II, which at 8,035 metres is the 13th highest.
He is the only person in the world to scale each of the 14 highest mountains twice.
Eight of the 14 highest peaks, including Mount Everest, are in Nepal. The other six are in Pakistan and the Tibet region of China.
Adhana Delivers India's Best-ever Finish at WC
Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist Singhraj Adhana won two gold medals on the final day as India produced their best-ever performance at the Para Shooting World Cup, finishing with 10 medals.
Adhana's twin medals propelled India to the top of the medals table, their best performance since taking part in the competition for the first time in 2017. In total, India won six gold, three silver and a bronze.
France (11) and Ukraine (15) took the second and third places, having won four and three gold, respectively.
Asia Cup 2022 will be Held in UAE
The Asia Cup, which was scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka, was shifted to the UAE, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the board will not be in a position to host the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup T20 because of the economic and political crisis in the country.
Asia Cup is slated to be held from August 27 to September 11 and will be played in the T20 format.

Goa to Host National Games Next Year
After a wait of nearly a decade, Goa got the nod to host the National Games in 2023.
The infrastructure required for hosting the games in Goa would be ready by December 2022, Sports Minister Govind Gaude said while making the announcement in the state Assembly.
The Government of Goa received an email from the Indian Olympics Association in consultation with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports that the state will be the host for the 37th National Games anytime in 2023.
FIH Appoints Egypt's Seif Ahmed as Acting President
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) appointed Egypt's Seif Ahmed as its acting president following Indian administrator Narinder Batra's resignation from the post. Batra resigned as FIH president and also quit as Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief. He also gave up his International Olympic Committee (IOC) membership which was directly linked with his IOA position.
Ahmed played for Egypt's national team in 1968 and has a long association with the sport as an umpire and technical official. He is a member on the FIH Executive Board since 2001.
ISSF Shooting World Cup: India Ends Changwon Campaign with most Medals
India finished yet another ISSF Shooting World Cup campaign by topping the medal's tally with a haul of 15 medals, including five gold, six silver and four bronze.
On the final day of competitions, the Indian trio of Anish Bhanwala, Vijayveer Sidhu and Sameer won the silver in the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event.
India had won all five ISSF World Cup stages in 2019, one in the curtailed 2021 season and yet again this year (2022) in the first stage in Cairo.

West Indies Batter Lendl Simmons Announces Retirement from International Cricket
West Indies batter Lendl Simmons announced his retirement from international cricket.
The right-hand batter from Trinidad made his debut for the West Indies in 2006, and went on to play 136 One-Day and Twenty20 international matches. Simmons was a part of West Indies' T20 World Cup winning sides in 2012 and 2016.
His last appearance for the team came during the T20 World Cup in the UAE in October 2021.
Simmons averaged 31.58 in the 50-over format, and 26.78 in T20Is. His figure in Tests is an unimpressive 17.37.
Asian Games Delayed by 12 Months to Avoid Conflict with other Sporting Events
China will host the 2022 Asian Games in autumn 2023, after postponing the event in Hangzhou because of Covid-19.
The Games were originally scheduled for September this year, but organisers postponed them in May as China tried to stamp out a large Covid resurgence in several parts of the country.
The event will now be held in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8 2023, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said.
Hangzhou lies less than 200 kilometres (120 miles) from the country's biggest city Shanghai, which endured a months-long lockdown earlier this year as part of the ruling Communist Party's zero-tolerance approach to the virus.
Former Supreme Court judge Vineet Saran Appointed BCCI Ethics Officer
Former Supreme Court judge Vineet Saran took over as the BCCI's ethics officer and ombudsman, filling the dual posts lying vacant for a year.
Saran succeeded Justice (Retd) D. K. Jain, whose term ended in June 2021.
Saran is a former Chief Justice of Odisha High Court, and also served as a judge in Karnataka and Allahabad High Court.
