Subsidised Fertiliser under 'Bharat' Brand from October

  • All subsidised fertilisers, including Urea and DAP (Diammonium phosphate), will be sold from October under a single brand name "Bharat" as part of the Centre's 'One Nation, One Fertiliser' initiative, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.
  • The initiative is aimed at ensuring timely supply of fertiliser to farmers, bringing uniformity in supply, and reducing subsidy burden in terms of higher freight charges.
  • As of now, there is a crisscross movement of fertiliser due to brand preference in different parts of the country, he said.
  • The One Nation, One Fertiliser initiative is part of the Centre's fertiliser subsidy scheme Pradhanmantri Bhartiya Janurvarak Pariyojna (PMBJP). As part of this, the government also plans to set up Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendra (PMKSK), which will serve as a one-stop centre for farmers to access services such as soil health tests.

Nagaland Gets its 2nd Railway Station in 119 Years

  • Nagaland got its second railway station after a gap of more than 119 years. The Donyi Polo Express from Shokhuvi Railway Station was flagged off by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
  • The Donyi Polo Express ran daily between Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh. The train service has now been extended till Shokhuvi, a few kilometres from Dimapur. Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh will be directly connected by train service with the extension of Donyi Polo Express till Shokhuvi Railway Station.

PM Narendra Modi Dedicates India's First Earthquake Memorial

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated India's first earthquake memorial, named Smruti Van at Bhuj in Gujarat. Smruti Van is a unique memorial carrying the names of more than 12 thousand people who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake that struck in January 2001. The earthquake simulator will provide real like the experience of earthquake tremors to visitors. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and State BJP President C. R. Patil were present on the occasion.
  • The grand structure, which is the first such memorial in the country according to a Gujarat government official, is spread over 470 acres on Bhujio Hill near Bhuj town. It celebrates the spirit of resilience in the wake of the death of nearly 13,000 people during the earthquake on January 26, 2001, which had its epicentre in Bhuj.
  • The museum showcases Gujarat's topography, rebuilding initiatives and success stories after the 2001 earthquake, and informs about different kinds of disasters and future readiness for any type of disaster. It also has a block to relive the experience of an earthquake with the help of a 5D simulator and another block for people to pay homage to the lost souls.

AAI Signs MoU with Sweden to Facilitate Smart Aviation Technology

  • The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Sweden's LFV Air Navigation Services signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in aviation technology.
  • This agreement would bring together two air navigation service providers, India and Sweden, with demonstrated capabilities in building and operationalising the next generation of sustainable aviation technology, to explore smart aviation solutions.
  • This MoU shall pave the way for bi-lateral exchange of aviation expertise and technology between the two countries.
  • The MoU was signed by M. Suresh, Member (Air Navigation Services), AAI and Magnus Corell, Deputy Director General, LFV Sweden.

PM Modi Inaugurates 'Atal Bridge'

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated another attraction added near the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, the pedestrian-only Atal Bridge, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The foot over bridge connects the flower garden on the western-end and the upcoming arts and culture centre on the eastern-end of the riverfront.
  • This bridge will provide connectivity to Multi Level Car Parking and various public developments on East and West Bank from plaza between Flower Park and Event Ground at West Bank to proposed Art / Cultural / Exhibition Centre on East Bank.

Awadh Bihari Chaudhary Bihar's New Assembly Speaker

  • Veteran RJD leader Awadh Bihari Chaudhary was unanimously elected as Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
  • The post had fallen vacant upon resignation of Vijay Kumar Sinha, against whom a no confidence motion was moved by the Mahagathbandhan', after it came to power in the state earlier this month.
  • Chaudhary was escorted to the Chair by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Sinha, a senior BJP leader, who has now become the Leader of the Opposition.

Govt. Launches Website to Boost Ongoing Coastal Clean-Up Campaign

  • Union Minister for Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh unveiled a dedicated Website to give further boost to the ongoing Coastal Clean-Up campaign. The portal www.swachhsagar.org would give a push to the cleaning mission. Besides, Dr. Singh also launched the Campaign Logo-Vasuki, dedicated to the youth of the country as they along with the school students are taking keen interest in joining the coastal and beach cleaning activities. The Minister said that the ongoing pan-India Coastal Clean-Up campaign has received an overwhelming response as public figures, film celebrities, students and people from all walks of life are joining it.

Taurus Sainik Aramgrah Inaugurated by Indian Army and DMRC

  • The Taurus Sainik Aramgrah was inaugurated by Lt Gen Nav K. Khanduri, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Western Command at Delhi Cantt. The Taurus Sainik Aramgrah is the first of its kind project which is constructed by the collaboration of the Indian Army and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The event was also facilitated by the officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
  • The state art facility has 148 beds with an aesthetically designed waiting lounge, in-house dining, green area, and parking.
  • The Taurus Sainik Aramgrah is constructed to ensure the comfortable stay of serving or retired soldiers and their families.

NITI Aayog Declares Haridwar as Best Aspirational District in India

  • The NITI Aayog declared holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand as the best aspirational district on five parameters, thereby providing an additional allocation of three crore rupees.
  • The letter by NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme director Rakesh Ranjan to Uttarakhand chief secretary S.S. Sandhu and the district collector of Haridwar underlined that the district secured first rank in basic infrastructure theme and became entitled to receive additional allocation of Rs. 3 crore.

Karnataka Govt and Isha Foundation Inked an Mou to Promote Agriculture

  • According to its founder Jaggi Vasudev (Sadhguru), the Isha Foundation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to enhance soil health, as part of its "Save Soil" campaign.
  • In addition to other ministers, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be visiting the Palace Grounds on Sunday to sign an MoU on "Save Soil."

EAC-PM to Launch the India@100 Roadmap

  • The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) on the 30th of this month in New Delhi will be unveiling the Competitiveness Roadmap for India@100.
  • The India@100 document by the EAC-PM serves as a roadmap for India's ascent to its centenary year and will inform and direct the country's path to higher income status by 2047.

India to Have 1.8 Lakh Kms of Highways & 1.2 Lakh Kms of Rail Lines by 2025

  • India is set to construct more railways and motorways in 2025.
  • The length of all national highways in India is anticipated to reach 1.8 lakh kilometres and the railway lines would be 1.2 lakh kilometres by 2025 according to the report of Bank of America Securities India.

PM Modi Inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Mohali

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 300-bed Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Mullanpur, Mohali in Chandigarh.
  • The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre has been built at a cost of over Rs. 660 crores by the Tata Memorial Centre which is an aided institute under the Union Department of Atomic Energy.
  • Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann was also present during the inaugural ceremony of the Bhabha Cancer Hospital. The hospital is equipped with the finest state-of-the-art facilities which include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Mammography, Digital Radiography, and Brachytherapy to ensure the treatment of all types of cancer in India.
  • The treatment for cancer available here is surgeries, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and bone marrow transplant.

Rajesh Verma Named as Secretary to President Droupadi Murmu August

  • Odisha cadre 1987-batch IAS officer, Rajesh Verma was appointed as the Secretary to President Droupadi Murmu. He replaced the incumbent Kapil Dev Tripathi, a 1980-batch IAS officer. In the past, Verma also served as the Principal Secretary to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Principal Secretary of Energy Department, Government of Odisha.
  • Droupadi Murmu became the 15th President of India after Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana administered the oath of office last month. With this, she became the second woman President of the country, and the first-ever tribal woman to hold the highest Constitutional office and also happens to be the first President to be born in independent India. Murmu received around 64 per cent of the valid votes of MPs and MLAs comprising the Electoral College. Murmu received 6,76,803 votes whereas Sinha secured 3,80,177 votes.

Chhattisgarh government to set up 300 rural industrial parks in the state

  • The Chhattisgarh government will set up rural industrial parks in the state. In the first year of the project, there will be 300 such parks.
  • This move aimed to strengthen the rural economy and make the "gauthan" (cattle shed) a centre of livelihood.
  • The project will be launched on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2. The first such park in Chhattisgarh came up in Kulgaon, Kanker district, which has been named Gandhi Gram
