Nasscom Inks Pact With China's I-Campus For Healthcare Innovation

  •  Apex software industry body Nasscom said it has entered into a strategic collaboration with China's I-Campus to accelerate healthcare innovation and cooperation in life sciences and healthcare sector.
  • The development is part of Nasscom's ongoing efforts to bolster digital solutions for non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
  • I-Campus, or the Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Campus, is an innovation incubation platform offering services in research and development, commercialisation and professional services in life sciences industry and has been co-built by the Wuxi municipal government, the Wuxi National High-tech District and Indian bio-pharma company AstraZeneca.

AIRSWEEE Fellowship: 3 Indian Women Entrepreneurs To Fly To US

  •  Three Indian women entrepreneurs were selected as part of a fellowship programme that will allow them to visit the United States and get hands-on experience on the working of globally successful firms.
  • The All India Roadshow on Women's Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship (AIRSWEEE), a TiE Global's marquee programme, is supported by the US Embassy in India.
  • It seeks to not only economically empower women but also promote gender equity and boost their self-confidence.
  • The winners are Zaiba Sarang (29), Shraddha Sinha Khare (40) and Tharakeshwari Palanisamy (39), according to AIRSWEEE team which had announced the fellowship.
  • The winners of the fully-funded fellowship were announced during the opening session of the three-day 'Women Entrepreneurs Conclave 3.0.

Two Out Of Three Child Deaths Due To Malnutrition: Report

  •  Two-thirds of the 1.04 million deaths in children under five years in India are still attributable to malnutrition, according to the first comprehensive estimate of disease burden due to child and maternal malnutrition and the trends of its indicators in every State from 1990.
  • The report states that the disability-adjusted life year (DALY) rate attributable to malnutrition in children varies 7-fold among the States and is highest in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Assam, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Nagaland and Tripura.
  • The report was published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health by the India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative.
  • The report says the overall under-five death rate and the death rate due to malnutrition has decreased substantially from 1990 to 2017, but malnutrition is still the leading risk factor for death in children under five years, and is also the leading risk factor for disease burden for all ages considered together in most States.

Doctors, nurses need not take TOEFL, IELTS exam to practice in UK

  •  Doctors, nurses, dentists and mid-wives who wish to practice in the UK will no longer have to appear for English language tests like TOEFL and IELTS as the country will now accept scores of Occupational English Test (OET) which the candidates have to anyway clear for registering with the relevant healthcare regulator.
  • The OET is an international English language test that assesses the language communication skills of healthcare professionals, who seek to register and practise in an English-speaking environment.

  •  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched "champions campaign" in the fight against dengue and urged people to encourage their friends to inspect their homes to clean stagnant water.
  • Earlier, Kejriwal had launched a mega drive against dengue. Lakhs of Delhiites are joining the #10Hafte10Baje10Minute campaign against Dengue.

  •  Government's healthcare scheme — Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) — has partnered with Ola, a mobility platform, to extend the welfare to its drivers.
  • An MoU has been signed to extend the benefits of the Centre-sponsored healthcare scheme.

IIT Bombay Top Indian Institute in QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020

  •  The Indian Institute of Bombay (IIT-B) leads India's representation in the latest QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020 with a 111-120 band ranking, up from 141-150 band in 2019.
  • At 151-160 band and 171-180 band, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras formed the three best ranked Indian institutes in the latest rankings.
  • The rankings covers world's top 500 universities and explores how employable a university is.
  • To explore the university-employability relationship, QS uses a unique five-metric method that captures each institution's regard among 44,000 employers worldwide, alma mater data from 29,000 highly successful individuals, institutional industry partnerships, employer presence on campus, and location-adjusted graduate employment rate.
