Industrialist Brij Mohan Khaitan, who hogged the limelight by acquiring the Indian business of Union Carbide in the 1990s, passed away.
Mr. Khaitan, 92, was the patriarch of the Williamson Magor Group that deals in dry-cell battery, tea and engineering services.
Mr. Khaitan got the Lifetime Achievement Award from the ICC in 2013.
Gehlot Rejects Lalchand Kataria's Resignation
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot rejected the resignation of Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria, who had taken the decision in the wake of the Congress's dismal showing in the Lok Sabha election.
As per reports, Mr. Gehlot rejected the resignation and asked Mr. Kataria to continue in office and play his role in good governance.

In the first Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Nirmala Sitharaman was Defence Minister, the first woman to hold that post since former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was in charge of the portfolio when she was head of government.
In the second one, Sitharaman is the Finance Minister and she is once again the second woman to hold the post after Gandhi, who held the portfolio when she was PM.
The rise of Sitharaman who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a little over a decade ago, is an example of women breaking the glass ceiling to be in the driving seat of Asia's third largest economy.

Maneka Gandhi Likely to be Pro-tem Speaker
Sultanpur MP Maneka Gandhi is likely to be the pro tem speaker of the new Lok Sabha. As the temporary speaker, the former union minister will administer oath to the newly elected MPs and preside over the sitting of the Lok Sabha to elect its speaker.
Maneka was the women and child development minister in the outgoing government, but she did not find a place in the new council of minister.
Maneka is a seven term Lok Sabha MP and the senior most member of the lower house of the parliament after Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O`Neill formally resigned after losing the support of parliament during weeks of political turmoil in the South Pacific island nation.
O`Neill was met with applause when he announced to parliament that he had delivered his resignation to Governor-General Bob Dadae.
Vidyashankar New Vice-Chancellor of KSOU
Vidyashankar S., professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangalore Institute of Technology (BIT), has been appointed Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Karnataka State Open University in Mysuru. The new Vice-Chancellor is likely to take charge on May 30.
Mr. Vidyashankar's name was shortlisted along with three others by the search committee, which was constituted for choosing the Vice-Chancellor.
