The newly elected president of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Darvesh Kumari Yadav was shot dead by a colleague in her chamber on the civil court premises.
The colleague, Manish Babu Sharma, fired at her thrice after an altercation and then shot himself in the head.

China Appoints Sun Weidong as New Envoy to India
China named career diplomat Sun Weidong as its ambassador to India weeks after outgoing envoy Luo Zhaohui was appointed a vice foreign minister.
A former ambassador to Pakistan, Sun held the post of director general at the foreign ministry's planning department before being named as the envoy to India.
Sun takes over at a time when the diplomatic corps of the two countries are preparing for President Xi Jinping's visit to India in October for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sun, an expert on South Asia worked with Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar during his tenure as Ambassador in Beijing. Sun was the Deputy Director General at the time.
Reckitt Picks Pepsi's Narasimhan
Consumer goods group Reckitt Benckiser picked PepsiCo executive Laxman Narasimhan as its next chief executive officer (CEO), becoming the latest industry heavyweight to turn to a company outsider to tackle faltering growth and new media-savvy rivals.
Narasimhan, PepsiCo's global chief commercial officer, is the first external candidate to be appointed as CEO at Reckitt since the maker of Durex condoms, Nurofen tablets and Dettol cleaners was formed in 1999.
Narasimhan would join Reckitt as CEO-designate and be appointed to the board in July 2019. He would become CEO in September 2019, replacing Rakesh Kapoor, who has led Reckitt for more than eight years.

New Rajya Sabha Leader
Social Justice Minister Thawarchand Gehlot was appointed the leader of the house in Rajya Sabha.
He would replace Arun Jaitley, the former Finance Minister who opted out of the council of ministers due to health reasons.
Gehlot is a prominent Scheduled Caste leader of the BJP, and the only SC leader to have a seat in the party's parliamentary board.
Dr. Virendra Kumar to be Protem Speaker
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dr. Virendra Kumar would be the Protem Speaker of 17th Lok Sabha. He represents the Tikamgarh constituency of Madhya Pradesh and has been a member of the Lok Sabha in the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha too.
A Protem Speaker's duty is to administer the oath of office to new members of the Lok Sabha.
A temporary post, the Protem Speaker presides over the first meeting of lower House of Parliament after the General election besides presiding over the sitting in which the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are elected if it is a newly constituted House.

Ajai Kumar Quits Yes Bank Board
Yes Bank has informed the stock exchanges that Ajai Kumar, non-executive director of the bank, has resigned.
The former chairman and managing director of Corporation Bank was appointed to Yes Bank board in January 2016.
Mr. Kumar was appointed as the bank's interim CEO for a month after Rana Kapoor's term ended in January 2019.
After Ravneet Gill took over as the MD and CEO from March 1, 2019, Mr. Kumar ceased to be the Interim CEO of the bank.
Prior to joining Corporation Bank, Mr. Kumar was the executive director of another state-run lender, UCO Bank.
Zardari Held in Fake Bank Accounts Case
Pakistan's former President Asif Ali Zardari was arrested in the fake bank accounts case by the country's top anti-corruption body.
A team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accompanied by the police, including women officials, entered the Pakistan People's Party co-chairman's house hours after the Islamabad High Court rejected his bail plea.
Zardari, the 11th President of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013, denied any link with the fake accounts.
He has said the allegation was part of a vilification campaign by the ruling party to malign opposition leaders.
Former Chief Minister R.V. Janakiraman Passes Away
Former Chief Minister of Puducherry and DMK leader R. V. Janakiraman passed away.
His body will be kept at his residence. The mortal remains will be laid to rest with full State honours at his residence in Alathur near Marakkanam in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Janakiraman was the DMK State convener for Puducherry from 1993 to 2012.
Nissan Appoints Sinan Ozkok
Japanese auto major Nissan appointed Sinan Ozkok as the president of its Indian operations.
Mr. Ozkok would be based out of Gurugram and responsible for all functions in India, including sales and marketing, R&D and manufacturing, for both Nissan and Datsun brands.
He joins India from Nissan Otomotiv A.S. (NOAS), the automaker's national sales firm in Turkey, where he has been MD since 2015.

Girish Karnad Passes Away
Jnanpith award winning playwright, actor and director Girish Karnad died at his residence in Bengaluru, aged 81.
Karnad was a prominent playwright for four decades, often using history and mythology to tackle contemporary issues.
His plays have been translated into English and several Indian languages and directed by directors like Ebrahim Alkazi, BV Karanth, Alyque Padamsee, Prasanna, Arvind Gaur, Satyadev Dubey, Vijaya Mehta, Shyamanand Jalan, Amal Allana and Zafer Mohiuddin.
He was conferred the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and has won four Filmfare Awards, of which three are Filmfare Award for Best Director – Kannada and the fourth a Filmfare Best Screenplay Award.
Prabhakar Rao Passes Away
Former Tamil Nadu cricketer U. Prabhakar Rao, aged 84, passed away.
Prabhakar Rao was a medium-pacer who played 32 matches for Tamil Nadu picking 84 wickets at an average of 25.08 with a best effort of seven for 28.
Rao also played in Duleep Trophy for South Zone and had three first-class five wicket hauls to his name.
Later, Rao made his name as an able administrator with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

J&K Bank Government Removes Parvez Ahmad
The Jammu and Kashmir government removed J&K Bank chairman Parvez Ahmad from his post and appointed R. K. Chibber as the interim chairman of the lender.
Mr. Chibber was appointed as the interim chairman and director on the board of directors.
