71st Army Day

  •  Army Day is observed on January 15 in India. On this day in 1949, Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.
  • Army day is dedicated to the soldiers who fought to safeguard the country's honour. 
  • According to reports, the Army Day parade is slated to be led by Lieutenant Bhavana Kasturi. This is for the first time when a woman officer will lead the Army Day parade. She will lead the Indian Army's Service Corps contingent.
  • The Army's 33-member Daredevils Motorcycle display team with also be led this year by a woman officer, Captain Shikha Surabhi.

Pak Varsity to Celebrate Sisters' Day

  •  A Pakistani university will celebrate Sisters' Day on February 14 to promote "Islamic traditions". Girls can be gifted scarves and Abayahs (clothes) as decided by Vice Chancellor Zafar Iqbal Randhawa of the University of Agriculture in Faisalabad and other decision makers.

World Braille Day

  •  Each year, January 4 is celebrated as World Braille Day. It marks the birthday of Louis Braille (1809-1852), the French inventor of the reading and writing code for the blind.
  • In Louis Braille's time, the code was only used at the Parisian school for the blind where he studied and later taught.
  • Today, there are Braille codes for virtually every written language in the world, so that blind people everywhere can become literate and acquire the opportunities that literacy brings.

Vajpayee's Birth Anniversary

  •  The entire world witnesses Christmas festivities on December 25, but in Lucknow this day also marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • A series of events has been lined up from December 24 to 27 by social organisations, literary organisations, government departments, individuals and fan clubs in memory of Vajpayee.
  • The district administration will celebrate Vajpayee's birth anniversary as 'Sushashan Diwas' (Good Administration Day) by organising seminars, discussions, debates, camps etc.
  • He was born on December 25, 1924.

Minorities Rights Day

  •  Minorities Rights Day is celebrated on 18th December every year. The day is celebrated for promoting the actual and legal rights of Minority communities.
  • On 18th December 1992 the United Nations promulgated the "Declaration on the Rights of Persons belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities" to strengthen the cause of the minorities.
