Minorities Rights Day

  •  Minorities Rights Day is celebrated on 18th December every year. The day is celebrated for promoting the actual and legal rights of Minority communities.
  • On 18th December 1992 the United Nations promulgated the "Declaration on the Rights of Persons belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities" to strengthen the cause of the minorities.

Vijay Diwas

  •  Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on December 16 to mark the military victory of India over Pakistan in the 1971 war, the war for the Independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. The end of the war resulted in unilateral and unconditional surrender of Pakistani Army.
  • On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who lost their lives during the 1971 India-Pakistan War.

National Energy Conservation Day

  •  National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year on 14th December in India since 1991. In India, Energy Conservation Act was implemented by Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) in 2001.
  • Energy Efficiency Bureau (BEE) is a constitutional body which works under the Government of India and helps in the development of policies and strategies to reduce the use of energy.
  • The objective of Energy Conservation Act in India is to appoint professional, qualified and energetic managers and auditors who have expertise in policy-making, financial management and implementation of energy-related projects.

International Mountain Day

  •  December 11, "International Mountain Day", was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003.
  • The General Assembly encouraged the international community to organise events at all levels on that day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development.
  • International Mountain Day is observed every year with a different theme relevant to sustainable mountain development.
  • FAO is the U.N. organisation mandated to lead observance of International Mountain Day.
  • The theme chosen for the 2018 celebration of International Mountain Day (IMD) is "MountainsMatter".

Human Rights Day

  •  Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year.
  • The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.
  •  The formal establishment of Human Rights Day occurred at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 4 December 1950, when the General Assembly declared resolution 423(V), inviting all member states and any other interested organisation to celebrate the day as they saw fit.
