2019 Toronto International Film Festival

The 44^th annual Toronto International Film Festival is currently being held from 5 to 15 September 2019. The opening gala has been announced with the documentary film "Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band", directed by Daniel Roher. The festival will close with a screening of the biographical film Radioactive, directed by Marjane Satrapi.
Indian delegation at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2019 continued their deliberations with key personalities from the film industry and those associated with the festival circuit.
In their discussions with representatives of Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), the Indian delegation representatives, Additional Director General of Directorate of Film Festival, Chaitanya Prasad and Deputy Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Dhanpreet Kaur, explored the possibilities and options of enhanced Indian presence at Berlinale 2020.
The representative of Berlinale was apprised of the policy changes in the film sector which are aimed at ease of shooting in India.

International Sudoku Day - September 9

The World Puzzle Federation established International Sudoku Day on September 9, a day with tremendous symbolism for followers of the game.
Sudoku, which means "single number" in Japanese, is a logic-based number puzzle in which the objective is to fill a 9×9 grid so that each column, row and 3×3 sub-grid contains all the digits from 1 to 9.
Although Sudoku is immensely popular, it is a fairly new game. Historically, number puzzles have been around since the 19th century, but Sudoku as we know it, didn't appear until the 1980s in Japan.
The game was unknown in the West until 2004 when Sudoku became a regular feature in newspapers.

First-Ever Helicopter Summit Held In Uttarakhand

The Aviation Ministry organised the country's first helicopter summit in Uttarakhand's Dehradun where issues related to "enhancing connectivity through helicopters" were discussed.
Indian Air Force was invited to talk on 'Role of IAF helicopters in MEDEVAC (medical evacuation) at National level.
The conclave was attended by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Aviation Secretary P S Kharola, Joint Secretary in Aviation Ministry Usha Padhee, officials of Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the state's Chief Secretary.

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is a day for celebrating the connections between the generations, and its origin was decidedly non-commercial. The holiday has remained fairly true to its roots.
Grandparents Day is a national holiday or observance, celebrated each year on the second Sunday after Labor Day.
The roots of Grandparents Day go back to 1956 and a West Virginia mother named Marian McQuade. While helping to organize a community celebration for those over 80, she became aware of the many nursing home residents who were forgotten by their families.
She wanted a holiday to bring attention to these forgotten individuals and to honor all grandparents. In 1973, West Virginia became the first state to have such a day.

International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day, celebrated annually on 8 September, is an opportunity for Governments, civil society and stakeholders to highlight improvements in world literacy rates, and reflect on the world's remaining literacy challenges.
The issue of literacy is a key component of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The UN's Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by world leaders in September 2015, promotes, as part of its agenda, universal access to quality education and learning opportunities throughout people's lives.
Sustainable Development Goal 4 has as one of its targets ensuring all young people achieve literacy and numeracy and that adults who lack these skills are given the opportunity to acquire them.
2019 Theme: Literacy and Multilingualism
International Literacy Day 2019 is an opportunity to express solidarity with the celebrations of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages and the 25th anniversary of the World Conference on Special Needs Education, at which the Salamanca Statement on Inclusive Education was adopted.
International Literacy Day 2019 will focus on 'Literacy and Multilingualism.' Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist, distributed unevenly across countries and populations. Embracing linguistic diversity in education and literacy development is central to addressing these literacy challenges and to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Brazilian Independence Day 2019

Brazilians did not have to fight much for freedom they won from their parent country only that is Portugal.
Pedro di Alcantara, the son of the Portuguese King made a declaration near Brazil's Ipiranga River about the Independence.
At that time he tore the Portuguese symbol from his uniform and declared "By my blood, by my honour, and by God: I will make Brazil free".
After that Pedro became the Emperor of Brazil and forced the forces of Portuguese to leave the Brazil.
Brazil monarchy came to an end in 1889 and became a republic but still they kept 7 September as its Independence Day.
On this day several activities held and on vast scale celebrations took place in the capital of Brazil that is Brazilia which include military parades, musical concerts and fireworks in the evening.
People do outings, picnics and several outdoor events are performed by them. Let us tell you that Parades generally occur in the morning and fireworks in the evening.
Thousands of Brazilians gather in the road on this day and celebrate together.

Kargil to Kohima Ultra-Marathon To Mark 20 Years Of 'Vijay Diwas'

Commemorating 20 years of 'Vijay Diwas', the Indian Air Force is organising an ultra-marathon spanning over 4,500 km from Kargil to Kohima that will commence on September 21, 2019.
The run -- Kargil to Kohima (K2K): Glory Run -- will be from Kargil War Memorial at Dras in Jammu and Kashmir, and Kohima War Cemetery in Nagaland.
The run was flagged off by Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa in a ceremony held at Vayu Bhavan. The event is to commemorate 20th year of victory in Kargil war.
Kohima and Kargil are the two forward most outposts of India in the east and the north where two of the most fierce battles of modern India were fought in 1944 and 1999, respectively.

World Forgiveness Day

Every year, 7th September is celebrated as 'World Forgiveness Day'. This day is a day to forgive and be forgiven. Forgiveness Day is a chance to set things right.
CECA founded National Forgiveness Day in 1994 in Victoria, British Columbia.
As the celebration grew, they renamed it Global Forgiveness Day.

Kochi To Host India International Seafood Show After 12 Years

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in association with the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) is organising the 22nd edition of India International Seafood Show (IISS) at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Kochi from February 7 to 9 in 2020.
This biennial show, re-visiting Kochi after a span of 12 years, will provide an Ideal platform for an interaction between Indian Exporters and overseas importers of Indian marine products, an opportunity for display and sale for manufacturers and suppliers of processing machinery, packaging systems, processing ingredient dealers and cold chain systems and also an opening for service providers like the logistics and certifying/testing segments.
IISS 2020 will highlight the technological advances and sustainable practices followed in seafood processing sector in India.

International Day of Charity

The International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
The prime purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic and volunteer organizations for their own purposes on the local, national, regional and international level.
The International Day of Charity was conceived as a Hungarian civil society initiative supported by the Hungarian Parliament and Government in 2011, to enhance visibility, organize special events, and in this way to increase solidarity, social responsibility and public support for charity. September 5 was chosen in order to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the "Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.

September 5 - Teacher's Day

Every year September 5 is celebrated as Teachers' Day in the country. A day dedicated to teachers and their contributions in shaping one's life, it commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a Bharat Ratna recipient and the first Vice President and second President of independent India. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888.
A revered academician, he was one of India's most distinguished twentieth-century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy.
The author of The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore, Dr Radhakrishnan had a master's degree in philosophy and was responsible for attracting global attention to Indian philosophy.
His illustrious career saw him work in Madras Presidency College, University of Mysore, University of Calcutta, University of Oxford and University of Chicago.

PM Greets People Of Odisha On The Occasion Of Nuakhai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik greeted the people of the state on the occasion of "Nuakhai", a harvest festival welcoming the new crop.
Describing Nuakhai as an ancient festival of Odisha, the prime minister in a message wished prosperity and good health among people, mainly farmers.
Wishing farmers happiness and prosperity on the occasion of the agrarian festival, the governor of Odisha called for transforming Odisha into an advance state in agriculture.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Pays Tribute To Dadabhai Naoroji

On the 194th birth anniversary of Dadabhai Naoroji, popularly known as the Grand Old Man of India, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, paid tribute to the leader.
He described Naoroji as an ardent patriot, economic thinker and among the greatest socio-political reformers of India.
Born in 1825, Dadabhai Naoroji is regarded as one of the most important Indians during the Independence Movement. Naoroji, propounded the 'drain of wealth' theory in his book 'Poverty and Un-British Rule in India'.
This theory revealed the loot by the Britishers during the colonial era.
