Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti is an event celebrated in India to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Gandhi, born 2 October 1869.
It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and it is one of the three national holidays of India.
The UN General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that 2 October will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Gandhi Jayanti is marked by prayer services and tributes all over India, including at Gandhi's memorial Raj Ghat in New Delhi where he was cremated.

International Day of Non-Violence

The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
In January 2004, Iranian Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi had taken a proposal for an International Day of Non-Violence from a Hindi teacher in Paris teaching international students to the World Social Forum in Mumbai.
The idea gradually attracted the interest of some leaders of India's Congress Party ("Ahimsa Finds Teen Voice", The Telegraph, Calcutta) until a Satyagraha Conference resolution in New Delhi in January 2007, initiated by Indian National Congress President and Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance Sonia Gandhi and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, called upon the United Nations to adopt the idea.

First October - World Vegetarian Day

World Vegetarian Day is observed annually around the planet on October 1. It is a day of celebration established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978, "To promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism." It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health, and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.
World Vegetarian Day initiates the month of October as Vegetarian Awareness Month, which ends with November 1, World Vegan Day, as the end of that month of celebration. Vegetarian Awareness Month has been known variously as "Reverence for Life" month, "Month of Vegetarian Food", and more.

First October - International Coffee Day

International Coffee Day is celebrated on 1st October every year to recognise millions of people across the world from farmers, roasters, baristas, and coffee shop owners etc. who do hard work to create and serve the beverage in the consumable form.

International Day of Older Persons 2019

Resolution 45/106, passed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1990, declared October 1st to be the International Day of Older Persons.The history of International Senior Citizens Day comes from the period of 1988. It was officially established by the former president of United States of America i.e. Ronald Reagan. He had signed the 5847 promulgation on August 19, 1988, which manifested August 21 as the National Senior Citizens Day. Ronald Reagan was the first to promulgate the first National Senior Citizens Day.
Theme of World Senior Citizens Day 2019 is "The Journey to Age Equality".

The 94th Raising Day of MNS Celebrated

The 94th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) is celebrated on 01st October 2019.
On the occasion, nursing officers will re-dedicate themselves to render high quality, selfless nursing care to their patients by reading the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
Additional Director General, MNS, Major General Joyce Gladys Roach, Principal Matron, Army Hospital Referral and Research, Major General Sonali Ghoshal will pay homage to martyrs at National War Memorial to commemorate their supreme sacrifice for the land.
The Chief of the Army Staff would be the chief guest at a function organised at Army Hospital (Referral and Research) to mark the occasion.

International Translation Day

International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30th September on the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators. The celebrations have been promoted by International Federation of Translators (FIT) ever since it was set up in 1953. In 1991 FIT launched the idea of an officially recognised International Translation Day to show solidarity of the worldwide translation community in an effort to promote the translation profession in different countries (not necessarily only in Christian ones). This is an opportunity to display pride in a profession that is becoming increasingly essential in the era of progressing globalisation.

World Deaf Day

World Deaf Day is celebrated every year in the last week (last Sunday of September) of September to draw the attention of general public, politician and development authorities towards the achievements of the deaf people as well as deaf people community. Throughout the celebration of the event, all the deaf people organisation worldwide are encouraged greatly to fulfil the demands and needs of the deaf people as well as increasing their rights all over the world.
World Deaf Day 2019 is celebrated on the last Monday (30th of September).

September 29 Is Marked As World Heart Day

September 29 is observed as World Heart Day, an initiative by the World Heart Federation to spread awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including heart disease and stroke.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that over 17.9 million people die of CVDs every year, accounting for over 31 per cent of global deaths. One-third of these deaths are premature (below 70 years). About 80 per cent of all CVDs manifest themselves as heart attacks or strokes and 75 per cent cases come from low and middle-income countries.

International Day for Universal Access to Information

Since 2016 UNESCO marks 28th September as the "International Day for Universal Access to Information" (IDUAI), following the adoption of the 38 C/Resolution 57 declaring 28th September of every year as International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI).
The IDUAI has particular relevance with Agenda 2030 with specific reference to:
 SDG 2 on investment in rural infrastructure and technology development,
 SDG 11 on positive economic, social and environmental links between urban, peri-urban and rural areas and
 SDG 16 on initiatives to adopt and implement constitutional, statutory and/or policy guarantees for public access to information.

World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day is the first and only global day of action and awareness for rabies prevention. It is an opportunity to unite as a community and for individuals, NGOs and governments to connect and share their work.
September 28, 2019 wwas the 13th World Rabies Day, and this year's theme focused on vaccination, the foundation of all rabies control efforts.
The theme, Rabies: Vaccinate to Eliminate, can be used to raise awareness at many levels– To ensure that dogs are kept vaccinated - as a reminder to dog owners, animal health professionals and local governments.
 To help people in need to seek and obtain PEP – through human health professionals and educators.
 To commit to the 2030 goal of eliminating rabies deaths – with national governments putting resources into rabies elimination.
