World AIDS Day

The commemoration of World AIDS Day, which takes place on 1st December every year, is an important opportunity to recognise the essential role that communities have played and continue to play in the AIDS response at the international, national and local levels.
Communities contribute to the AIDS response in many different ways. Their leadership and advocacy ensure that the response remains relevant and grounded, keeping people at the centre and leaving no one behind. Communities include peer educators, networks of people living with or affected by HIV, such as gay men and other men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs and sex workers, women and young people, counsellors, community health workers, door-to-door service providers, civil society organizations and grass-roots activists.
World AIDS Day offers an important platform to highlight the role of communities at a time when reduced funding and a shrinking space for civil society are putting the sustainability of services and advocacy efforts in jeopardy.
The theme for the 2019 observance is "Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Community by Community".
World AIDS Day was first observed in 1988. Each year, organisations and individuals across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward ending the HIV epidemic: A Plan for America.

Women's Fest on North Delhi's Ajmal Khan Road

In an effort to boost women's safety at night and encourage them to reclaim public spaces, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation will host its first all-night "woman-centric" street festival on the recently pedestrianised Ajmal Khan Road in Karol Bagh market next week.
The shopping, dance and food festival will be held over two nights on December 5 and 6 from 7 to 11 pm.
According to experts, such events allow women to reclaim public spaces and also normalises the perspective that it is not just men who can dominate the city's nightscape.
Notably, the event will mainly be hosted by and for women. "Various non-governmenta organisations that work for women's rights — UN Women, Jagori, Safetipin, etc. — have helped us put together programmes for the evenings. These include zumba, dance and music performances, movie screenings, street plays, etc.

Saint Andrew's Day

Saint Andrew's Day is the feast day of Saint Andrew. It is celebrated on 30 November. Saint Andrew's Day (Scots: Saunt Andra's Day, Scottish Gaelic: Là Naomh Anndrais) is Scotland's official national day.
It is a national holiday in Romania (since 2015). Saint Andrew is represented in the New Testament to be the disciple who introduced his brother, the Apostle Peter, to Jesus as the Messiah.
He is the patron saint of Cyprus, Scotland, Greece, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, San Andres Island (Colombia), Saint Andrew (Barbados) and Tenerife.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The date of 29 November is observed as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People since 1978. This date, which was chosen because of its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people, is based on the call by the United Nations General Assembly for an annual observance of the resolution on the partition of Palestine. What has become known as the Partition Plan or the Resolution 181 (II), intended to establish an Arab State and a Jewish State, and was adopted on 29 November 1947.
The International Day of Solidarity traditionally provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people have yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely, the right to self-determination without external interference, the right to national independence and sovereignty, and the right to return to their homes and property, from which they have been displaced.

Conference on Info Security

The 10th International Conference on Applications and Techniques in Information Security, the first Indian edition was held from 22-23 November at TIFAC core, SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur. It was jointly organised by SASTRA and Deakin University, Australia.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. V. Kamakoti, Member, National Security Advisory Board, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT-Madras in the presence of Prof. Lynn Batten and Dr. Gang Li from Deakin University, Australia, Prof. A.Umamakeswari, Dean, School of Computing, SASTRA, and Prof. V.S. Shankar Sriram, Associate Dean, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SASTRA.

Celebrating The Constitution

They reflected the idealism as well as the pragmatism of the times. The proceedings were a lesson in how to conduct debates with utmost civility.
On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly ratified the Constitution of India after three years of high-quality deliberations.
The process itself should make Indian citizens proud of their legacy. And so, 70 years ago to the day, India finally had a modern vision for its future.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM), Delhi, will celebrate its silver jubilee in the year 2020.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25 every year. The 2019 theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is 'Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape'.
Historically, the date is based on the date of the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic; the killings were ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930–1961). In 1981, activists at the Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentros marked November 25 as a day to combat and raise awareness of violence against women more broadly; on December 17, 1999, the date received its official United Nations (UN) resolution.
