Nagaland CM inaugurated Multi Media Exhibition at World War II museum

  • For the first time in the history of Hornbill festival, Bureau of Outreach & Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is organising a Multi Media Exhibition commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated the Multi Media Exhibition at World War II museum, Kisama in Nagaland.
  • The focus of the event is to present Gandhian values and principles both to the people and through the people in contemporary idiom. The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is more than a celebration of a great life and a remembrance of history. It is a moment of renewal, of making a fresh commitment to the goals of a just, honest and fair society- at home and abroad.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

  • International Day of the People with Disabilities (IDPwD) is also known as World Disabled Day. It is observed on 3 December every year to raise awareness and develop an understanding to accept people with disabilities by the United Nations.
  • The theme of 2019 is Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda. It focuses on empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as mentioned in 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Nearly 200 Countries Attend Climate Summit

  • The chair of a two-week climate summit attended by nearly 200 countries warned at its opening that those refusing to adjust to the planet's rising temperatures will be on the wrong side of history.
  • Chile's environment minister, Carolina Schmidt, said that the December 2-13 meeting in Madrid needs to lay the groundwork for moving toward carbon-neutral economies while being sensitive to the poorest and those most vulnerable to rising temperatures — something that policymakers have termed "just transition."
  • The summit, which moved to the Spanish capital after Chile had to pull out amid anti-government protests, aims to put the finishing touches to the rules governing the 2015 Paris accord.
  • Except for the European Union's newly sworn-in leadership, which was due to begin a five-year term by paying a visit to the summit, the rest of the world's largest carbon emitters — the US, China and India — sent ministerial or lower-level officials to the meeting.

150th Raman Memorial Conference

National Pollution Control Day

  • National Pollution Control Day is observed every year on December 2. The aim behind the celebration of this day is to commemorate the people who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident of Bhopal Gas Tragedy that occurred on this day in the year 1984.
  • There are basically three major objectives of National Pollution Control Day.
