Pan American Aviation Day

  • Pan American Aviation Day is an annual national observance in the United States, observed on December 17 and falls on the same day as Brothers Wright Day, which is not surprising as both observances commemorate the same event. On December 17, 1903 Orville and Wilbur Wright accomplished the first successful flight of a mechanically propelled heavier-than-air craft near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This event is considered to be a pivotal milestone in the development of aeronautics which led to breakthrough developments.
  • Pan American Aviation Day was declared by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was first observed in 1940 and has been proclaimed every year since then.

India Celebrates Vijay Diwas

  • Vijay Diwas celebrates on December 16 every year to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in 1971. India had defeated Pakistan in this war. Indian army brought Pakistani soldiers to their knees. Another fact is that Bangladesh was born on this day. Hence, Bangladesh celebrates its independence day on December 16 every year.
  • The three army chiefs reached the War Memorial in Delhi and paid tribute to the soldiers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that I salute the courage, valor, and bravery of Indian soldiers on Vijay Diwas. He also said that the history created by our army on this day in 1971, will always be remembered.

International Tea Day

  • International Tea Day is observed every year on December 15. The aim of International Tea Day is to raise awareness of tea trade. The debut International Tea Day took place in New Delhi, India back in 2005. In the year 2015, the Indian government proposed the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation to make the day a bigger observance around the world.

National Cocoa Day

  •  National Cocoa Day is celebrated on 13th December.
  • The Mayans are credited with creating the first chocolate beverage around 2000 years ago. Culturally, cocoa became an essential part of the Aztec civilization by 1400 AD.  After the drink found its way from Mexico through the New World, Europeans popularised the chocolate drink. However, it has undergone multiple changes since then.  Until the 19th century, drinkers used hot chocolate medicinally to treat ailments such as stomach diseases. 
  • The health benefits of drinking hot cocoa abound. Cocoa contains significant amounts of antioxidants that may help prevent cancer. They have also shown that the cocoa bean helps with digestion. The flavonoids found in cocoa also have a positive effect on arterial health.
