India to Host Key Talks on Indo-Pacific Region

India will host two Track 1.5 dialogues this week to highlight its open and inclusive approach to build a "cooperative, free, and rules-based Indo-Pacific" region. The external affairs ministry is organising the 6th Indian Ocean Dialogue and Delhi Dialogue XI in New Delhi during December 13-14 and for the first time these two events will be held consecutively and on similar themes. The two events will intersect on December 13 in a joint ministerial session.
The theme for the Indian Ocean Dialogue is "Indo-Pacific: Re-imagining the Indian Ocean through an Expanded Geography", while the theme for the Delhi Dialogue is "Advancing Partnership in Indo-Pacific".

International Mountain Day

December 11, "International Mountain Day", was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003. The General Assembly "encouraged the international community to organise events at all levels on that day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development.
Mountains are home of the 15% of the world´s population and a quarter of the world's land animals and plants. They provide freshwater for everyday life to half of humanity. Their conservation is a key factor for sustainable development and is part of Goal 15 of the SDGs.
'Mountains matter for Youth' is the theme of 2019's International Mountain Day.

UNIFEC Day

On December 11, the anniversary of the creation of UNICEF is remembered.
Since its founding, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. Around the world, UNICEF responds when emergencies arise in war-torn countries, the aftermath of natural disasters and disease outbreaks.
Headquartered in New York City, it is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee.
The United Nations General Assembly created UNICEF on December 11, 1946 when children devastated as a solution to the growing need to for emergency assistance for children affected by World War II. Ludwik Rajchman, a Polish bacteriologist, is regarded as the founder of UNICEF and was its first chairman from 1946 to 1950. In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations System and its name was shortened from the original United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund but it has continued to be known by the popular acronym based on this previous title.

Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): a milestone document proclaiming the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
The theme of 2019 is "The Year of Indigenous Languages: Promoting and Deepening a Human Rights Culture".

International Anti-Corruption Day

Anti-Corruption Day December 9, is observed as the International Anti-Corruption day since the year 2005.
The United Nations General Assembly on October 31, 2003, adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and designated December 9 International Anti-Corruption Day, in order to raise awareness about corruption and of the role of Convention in fighting and preventing it. This convention came into force in the year 2005, and since then the day is being observed annually.
Theme of the day is, 'united against corruption.' The global campaign #UnitedAgainstCorruption focuses on corruption as one of the biggest obstacles to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Delhiites Participate in Sleep Out at CP

With mattresses and blankets laid out in Connaught Place's Central Park, Delhiites spent their night sleeping out in the open to raise awareness against homelessness.
Joining hands with the global fundraising event World's Biggest Sleep Out, the national capital was among the 50 cities across the world which participated in the affair.
As per Indu Prakash, the national coordinator for WBSO, over 50,000 people participated across the 50 cities to raise $50 million to help the homeless.

International Civil Aviation Day

In 1996 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that 7^th December was to be the International Civil Aviation Day.
The day has been celebrated by the International Civil Aviation Organization since 7^th December 1994, the 50th anniversary of the signing the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The purpose of the day is to recognize the importance of aviation, especially international air travel, to the social and economic development of the world.
The theme for International Civil Aviation Day 2019 is "75 years of connecting the world".

Armed Forces Flag Day

The Armed Forces Flag Day or the Flag Day of India is a day dedicated to India towards collection of funds from people of India for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel. It has been observed annually in India on December 7 since 1949. Over the years, it has become a tradition to commemorate this day as an honour to the soldiers, sailors and airmen of India.
Immediately after India achieved independence, a need arose for the government to manage the welfare of its defence personnel. On August 28, 1949, a committee set up under the defence minister decided to observe a Flag Day annually on December 7. The idea behind observing a Flag Day was to distribute small flags to the general population and in return collect donations. Flag Day gains more significance as it considers that it is the responsibility of the civilian population of India to take care of the families and dependents of the armed forces personnel who fight for the country.
The Flag Day is mainly observed to serve three basic purposes

           1) Rehabilitation of battle casualties
           2) Welfare of serving personnel and their families
           3) Resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families
