Lt Gen Pendharkar Takes Charge of Spear Corps, Manipur Conflict Top Priority

Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar assumed command of the Indian Army's elite Spear Corps, inheriting a significant challenge in the form of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur which has claimed more than 200 lives in the past year.
Lt General Pendharkar succeeded Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi, who moved to the Army War College in Mhow as its commandant.
Commissioned into the Assam Regiment in 1990, Pendharkar has held a variety of command and staff positions through an illustrious career spanning over 34 years, serving in all types of terrain and operational environment.
His experience includes counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and commanding formations along the Line of Control.
Prior to taking over as the head of the Spear Corps, Pendharkar served as the Director General of the Territorial Army. He is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, and multiple commendation awards.

Lt. Gen. Sigdel is Nepal's New Army Chief

The government of Nepal appointed Lieutenant General Ashokraj Sigdel as the Acting Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army. CoAS Prabhuram Sharma, who went on a mandatory month's leave before formally retiring on September 9, handed over the charge to Lt. Gen. Sigdel at a function held at the Nepal Army Headquarters, according to the statement issued by Directorate of Military Public Relations and Information.

Indian Naval Ship Conducts Maritime Exercise with German's Sea Lynx

The Indian Navy's frontline frigate INS Tabar, during her return leg from St Petersburg in Russia, conducted a maritime partnership exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off the Kiel Canal. INS Tabar had earlier visited Hamburg, Germany. These engagements are aimed at strengthening the maritime relations between both nations.
The maritime partnership exercise between the Indian Navy and the German Navy off the Kiel Canal signified the Indian Navy's outreach and sustenance efforts, also marked a significant milestone in the maritime cooperation between the two countries.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi released a document titled 'CNS Course to Steer-2024 (CTS-2024)', highlighting his vision of the Navy for a Viksit Bharat.
According to reports, the document highlights the key waypoints of CNS's vision of a combat-ready, credible, cohesive and future-ready navy for a Viksit Bharat.
The CNS urged personnel in leadership positions to leverage CTS-2024 to manage change and keep the Navy on course to safeguard the nation's maritime interests.

ITBP to Get Russian KAMAZ Typhoon Vehicle for LAC

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has successfully conducted a demonstration and trial of the formidable Typhoon vehicle at its Transport Battalion in Chandigarh. The event, attended by officials from Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, marks an important step in upgrading the force's vehicles.
Kamaz-53949 Typhoon-K is a Russian-made 4×4 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle. It was developed by Remdiesel, a subsidiary of Kamaz. It was developed for the safe transportation of troops and military cargo in areas with a high risk of mines. It can also be configured as a command post vehicle, ambulance, and logistics support vehicle.

Lt. Gen. Vikas Lakhera Assumes Charge as Assam Rifles Director General

A significant change in leadership took place as Lt. General Vikas Lakhera assumed charge as the new Director General of the Assam Rifles, an organization fondly known as the "Sentinels of the Northeast". This transition marks a new era for the paramilitary force that has long been crucial to maintaining peace and security in India's northeastern region.

Air Force Approves Production of 200 Astra Missiles

The Indian Air Force (IAF) gave clearance to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to produce 200 Astra air-to-air missiles for its Su-3O and LCA Tejas fighter aircraft.
The clearance was given to the DRDO and public sector firm BDL, during a visit by Indian Air Force Deputy Chief Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit to Hyderabad.
While DRDO is the development agency for the project, BDL is the production agency for it.

US Hands over its Last Military Base in Niger to the Ruling Junta

The US handed over its last military base in Niger, one of two crucial hubs for American counterterrorism operations in the country, to local authorities, the US Department of Defense and Niger's Ministry of Defense announced in a joint statement.
The handing over of Airbase 201 in the city of Agadez came after the U.S. troops withdrew earlier this month from Airbase 101, a small drone base in Niger's capital of Niamey.
US troops have until September 15 to leave the Sahel country following an agreement with Nigerien authorities.
