Magnus Carlsen Wins $70,000

World champion Magnus Carlsen has won the richest online chess tournament in history, bagging the history-making $70,000 winner's prize.
Appropriately enough, the Norwegian grandmaster conquered American Hikaru Nakamura in the final of the Magnus Carlsen Invitational, his namesake event.
With a total prize fund of $250,000, the tournament is the most lucrative online chess tournament in history and was organized by Carlsen to fill the void of live, over-the-board chess.

Sandeep Kumari Banned for Four Years by WADA

Discus thrower Sandeep Kumari has been slapped with a four-year ban by WADA's Athletics Integrity Unit for flunking a dope test , nearly two years after her sample was deemed clean by the NDTL.
The National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) had failed to detect the banned substance — a steroid — which was present in her blood sample, collected by NADA officials during the National Inter-State Championships in June 2018 in Guwahati.

Former World Snooker Champion Peter Ebdon Retires from Sport

United Kingdom's former world snooker champion Peter David Ebdon (49) announced his retirement from a 29 years career in the sport to avoid having to undergo spinal surgery.
He won the 2002 world championship, beating Stephen Hendry in a 18-17 final thriller, reached the 1996 and 2006 finals (runner-up), 2006 Maplin Electronics UK Championship, UK Championship runner-up in 1995.

Sania Mirza, First Indian To Be Nominated for Fed Cup Heart Award

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza became the first Indian to be nominated for the Fed Cup Heart Award from the Asia/Oceania zone along with Indonesia's Priska Medelyn Nugrorho.
Sania had recently made a comeback to Fed Cup after four years.

Australia Replace India at Top of World Test Rankings

Australia have returned to the top of the Test rankings for the first time in four years.
Justin Langer's side replace India, despite having not won an away series since beating New Zealand in 2016.
The Black Caps move up to second as India slip to third, with England fourth on the International Cricket Council's list.
Australia also head the Twenty20 table, while 2019 World Cup winners England remain top in one-day cricket.
India had been top of the Test rankings since October 2016.

Australia Restrict Use of Saliva, Sweat to Shine Ball Under Covid-19 Guidelines

Australia will not allow the use of saliva or sweat to shine the ball once cricket training resumes in the post-COVID-19 world, says a framework released by the federal government regarding the staged return of sports amid the pandemic.
There is speculation that the use of saliva to shine the ball will be stopped to cut down the risk of the highly contagious infection with reports suggesting that the ICC is considering the possibility of allowing the use of artificial substances to polish the red ball under the supervision of umpires.
