Sevilla Wins Sixth Europa League Title

Sevilla clinched a sixth Europa League title with a roller-coaster 3-2 win over Inter Milan after an overhead kick by defender Diego Carlos deflected by the Italian side`s top scorer Romelu Lukaku settled a thrilling contest.
In the first European final ever staged behind closed doors, it was an astonishing anti-climax for Lukaku after he had earlier set the longest scoring run by a player in UEFA Cup/Europa League history by netting in the 11th successive game.

Online Chess Olympiad: India Notch up Three Easy Wins

A dominant India notched up three easy wins against Zimbabwe, Vietnam and Uzbekistan, respectively, in the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad.
India defeated Zimbabwe 6-0 and rolled over Vietnam 4-2 but the highlight certainly was the win against Uzbeks – 5.5-0.5.
Winning each round got India two points, taking them on top of the pool with six points while they also have the best game points 15.5 after 18 matches.
India is on top of the standings followed by China with an equal number of round points (6) but fewer game points (13.5) and Germany in third also with 6 points (11.5 game points).
India with an average ELO rating of 2419 is seeded seventh in the championship.

Japan`s Olympic Badminton Champion Ayaka Takahashi To Retire

Japan`s Olympic badminton champion Ayaka Takahashi will not defend her doubles crown with Misaki Matsutomo at next year`s Tokyo Games after announcing she will retire at the end of the month.
Takahashi and Matsutomo defeated Denmark`s Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl in the Rio Olympics in 2016 to claim the women`s doubles gold medal and secure their nation`s first ever badminton title.
Takahashi cited the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the reasons for her decision to step away, saying her body might not hold up for another year.
Takahashi and Matsutomo were doubles partners for over a decade and last played together at the All England Open in March 2020.

Dream11 Bags Indian Premier League Title Sponsorship Rights Ahead of IPL Season 13

Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 won the IPL title sponsorship rights with a bid of Rs. 222 crore, replacing Chinese mobile phone company Vivo for a four and a half month deal.
Dream11 has been one of the IPL sponsors for a couple of years now.
It was learnt that Tata group didn't place a final bid while two education technology companies -- BYJUs (201 crore) and Unacademy (170 crore) -- came second and third respectively.

Joshua Cheptegei Sets World Record as Athletics Returns in Monaco

Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei ensured a thrilling return for competitive athletics as he shattered the much-vaunted 16-year-old 5,000m world record at the Monaco Diamond League. Cheptegei's astonishing display capped a warm welcome back for track and field for a season almost wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic, with fellow world champions Noah Lyles and Karsten Warholm also shining on the track. Lyles had worn a black glove on his right hand and raised his fist at the start of the 200m to show his support for recent anti-racism protests.
Cheptegei clocked 12min 35.36sec to shatter Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele's previous best of 12:37.35, set in 2004.
Following exhibition events in Oslo and Zurich in June and July, the Diamond League meeting in Monaco marked the start of the competitive season.

Suresh Raina Joins MS Dhoni in Retirement

Left-handed batsman Suresh Raina announced his retirement from international cricket.
Raina's announcement came minutes after MS Dhoni's decision to bid adieu to international cricket.
It was on July 30, 2005, when Raina made his debut for the Men in Blue. He went on to make his debut in an ODI match against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.
Raina is the first Indian batsman to register centuries in all three formats of the game.
Raina played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for India. Raina also cemented his place as one of the best fielders ever to play the game for India.
He was also a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad and the batsman had played crucial knocks in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the tournament.
Raina would now be seen in action for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

MS Dhoni Announces Retirement from International Cricket

MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing down curtains on a near 16-year-long storied career of one of the country's greatest limited-overs cricketers. Dhoni retires as India's most successful captain in limited-over internationals, having won three ICC trophies - 2007 T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy - the only captain to do so.
Dhoni made the confirmation through a video on Instagram, its caption reading: "Thanks – Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hours consider me as Retired."
The announcement means that Dhoni's last India game would remain the semifinal of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in which India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs. It was his 350th ODI, in which he scored 50 off 72 balls before being run-out by a bullet throw from Martin Guptill in the deep. Incidentally, Dhoni was run-out in his first ODI as well.
Having retired from Test cricket in December of 2014 with 4876 runs from 90 matches, Dhoni carried on playing ODIs and T20Is. With 10,733 runs, Dhoni is fifth in the list of India's all-time run-scorers in ODI behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. His overall Indian numbers are staggering: 538 matches, 17,266 runs, 16 centuries, 108 fifties, 359 sixes, 829 dismissals.
