Unacademy IPL's Official Partner for Next Three Seasons

The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) announced 'Unacademy' as an official partner for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The partnership will begin with the 13th edition which is slated to start from September 19 in the UAE and will cover three seasons of IPL.
The Bengaluru-based edutech firm, Unacademy, aims to build an online knowledge repository for multilingual education by bringing expert Educators together from across the globe.

Djokovic Clinches Western & Southern Open Title

Novak Djokovic kept his unbeaten streak in 2020 alive as he survived a terrible start to defeat Milos Raonic 1-6 6-3 6-4 in the final of the Western & Southern Open.
The 17-time Grand Slam winner fended off Raonic's mighty serve to extend his 2020 winning run to 23-0, clinching his 80th career title and equalling Rafael Nadal's record of 35 Masters 1000 wins.
The tournament, a final tune-up ahead of the U.S. Open was staged in front of empty stands at Flushing Meadows instead of its usual venue in Mason near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Kiren Rijiju Announces Hike in the Prize Money in Categories of the National Sports and Adventure...

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday officially announced a massive hike in the prize money in four of the seven categories of the National Sports and Adventure Awards, which were given away in a virtual ceremony this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The prize money for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award has been increased to a whopping Rs. 25 lakh from the previous amount of Rs. 7.5 lakh, while Arjuna Award has been enhanced to Rs. 15 lakh from Rs. 5 lakh.
The Dhronacharya (Lifetime) awardees, who were earlier given Rs. 5 lakh, will now be richer by Rs. 15 lakh, while Dhronacharya (Regular) winners will be given Rs. 10 lakh instead of Rs. 5 lakh. The prize money of Dhyan Chand Award has been increased to Rs. 10 lakh from Rs. 5 lakh. The hike will come into effect from this year.
The prize money for the Sports Awards was last reviewed in 2008. These amounts should be reviewed once every 10 years at least. If professionals in every field have seen an enhancement in their earnings, why not our sportspersons.

Russia Sacks Head of Sports Anti-doping Agency

Russia has dismissed the outspoken head of its national anti-doping agency, Rusada, after the country's Olympic committee accused him of presiding over serious financial violations.
Yuri Ganus, who denied the allegations, said that he was being removed because of his zero-tolerance approach to doping.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has voiced concern at his dismissal.
Mr. Ganus was appointed three years ago on a mission to clean up Russian sport after multiple doping scandals.
He took a tough approach, increasing spot checks on athletes and refusing a request for a five-minute warning when inspectors were on their way.
Last December, Wada banned Russia from big global sporting events for four years, including the Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Mr. Gunus's sacking comes as Rusada is awaiting the result of its appeal against the ban.
The appeal will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, based Lausanne, Switzerland, in November.
The appointment of Yuri Ganus was seen as a fresh start: a sign to the rest of the world that Russia was cleaning up its act in sport after multiple scandals over doping.

Indian Table Tennis Player Poulomi Ghatak Retires

One of the most successful Indian Table Tennis players Poulomi Ghatak announced her retirement from the sport at the age of 37. The Kolkata born Poulomi Ghatak is a seven-time National Champion. She Won the Junior National Championship thrice and the Senior National Championship seven times, held in between 1998 and 2016.
She won the bronze medal at Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and bagged the Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi.
She Represented India at the 2000 Sydney Olympics at the age of 16.
She has won the National Championships seven times and is one short of Indu Puri's record.
Ghatak bagged Gold Medal at the 2006 South Asian Federation Games (SAF) in both Women's Singles & Doubles.

James Anderson Becomes First Fast Bowler to Pick 600 Test Wickets

James Anderson became the first fast bowler in history to take 600 Test wickets. Anderson, 38, who started the third Test at the Ageas Bowl was seven wickets away from the feat, dismissed Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali for the milestone on Day 5.
Anderson, who surpassed Glenn McGrath to become the leading Test wicket-taker among fast bowlers in 2018, required less than two years to breach the 600-wicket mark. He is fourth on the list of all-time wicket-takers in Tests, behind Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble.

India Plans BRICS Games During Khelo India Games Next Year

According to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, India is planning to host BRICS Games in 2021 and may align it with Khelo India Games.
Rijiju's announcement came after he attended a meeting of Sports Ministers of the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
India will get chairmanship of the five-nation independent international group in 2021.
BRICS Games 2021 will be held during the same time and at the same venues as of Khelo India Games 2021 so that our players from various parts of the country who will gather for Khelo India Games will have the benefit of witnessing BRICS Games from close quarters.

Kallis, Sthalekar and Zaheer Abbas Inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame

Lisa Sthalekar, Jacques Kallis and Zaheer Abbas became the latest names to be inducted in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame as the global cricket body honoured their stellar careers.
The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame show, hosted by commentator Alan Wilkins, featured retired greats Sunil Gavaskar, Melanie Jones and Shaun Pollock as the main guests and had Wasim Akram, Graeme Smith and Alyssa Healy join in to congratulate and appreciate the 2020 inductees.
Kallis is the fourth South African player inducted and Zaheer the sixth from Pakistan. Lisa is the 27th from Australia and the ninth woman player in the list, which includes five from Australia. In all, 93 players have been inducted so far under the system, which sees retired players become eligible five years after playing their last international match.
