India Retains the Right to Host the 2021 T20 World Cup

India retained the right to host the 2021 T20 World Cup while Australia will conduct this year's postponed edition in 2022, the ICC announced after its board meeting.
The global body also confirmed that next year's women's ODI World Cup in New Zealand has been postponed until February-March 2022 because of the impact the pandemic has had on cricket globally.

Win Trade Fantasy Sports (WTF) Appoints Suresh Raina, Harmanpreet Kaur as Global Brand Ambassadors

Indian middle-order batsman Suresh Raina and Indian women's team captain (T20I) Harmanpreet Kaur were appointed as Global brand ambassadors of Win Trade Fantasy (WTF) Sports . In addition to this, Suresh Raina has also joined the brand as Strategic Partner.
World Trade Fantasy (WTF) Sports is a fantasy sports gaming platform, which was formally launched in India and other parts of the world on 6th August, 2020.
Users can create their own team made up of real-life players from upcoming matches, score points based on their on-field performance and compete with other fans.
The app at present hosts Fantasy Cricket, Football and Basketball. It lets users strategize and use their sports knowledge to get rewards.
The announcement was made through a web conference by co-founders of WTF India and Global Vinit Bhatia, Manit Parikh and Yash Kadakia.

BCCI Suspends IPL Title Sponsorship Deal with Chinese Company Vivo

The BCCI suspended the IPL title sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile phone company Vivo for the event's upcoming edition amid soaring Sino-India diplomatic tensions.
The BCCI sent out a one-line statement, without giving any details, to say that Vivo will not be associated with the IPL this year.
Vivo won the IPL title sponsorship rights for five years from 2018 to 2022 for a reported sum of Rs. 2,190 crore, approximately Rs. 440 crore per annum.
The two parties are now working out a plan in which Vivo might come back for a fresh three-year period starting 2021 on revised terms. However, a top BCCI official offered a different view.
The BCCI is now likely to float a tender for new IPL title sponsors as mandated by its constitution. The glitzy T20 league starts on September 19 in the UAE, forced out of India due to the rising Covid-19 cases.

Italian Club Lazio's Ciro Immobile Wins European Golden Shoe

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile won the Serie A Golden Boot and European Golden Shoe as he matched Gonzalo Higuain's record of 36 goals in an Italian top-flight season.
The 30-year-old scored in Lazio's 3-1 defeat by Napoli on the final day as his side finished fourth.
Fabian Ruiz put Napoli ahead before Immobile equalised from close range.
Lorenzo Insigne's penalty and Matteo Politano's late goal were enough for Gennaro Gattuso's side to win.
Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo - who was rested on the final day - was Serie A's second top scorer with 31 goals, with Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku on 23.
The European Golden Shoe rewards the top scorer across every European top-flight, with goals weighted by the quality of league.
Immobile finished two goals clear of Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski, with Ronaldo third.
It was his third Serie A Golden Boot - winning in 2013-14 with 22 goals and sharing with Mauro Icardi on 29 in 2017-18.

Voluntarily Declare Age-fraud or Face Two-year Ban: BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that it will grant amnesty to registered players who voluntarily declare any age fraud but those found to be in breach of the unusual scheme could be slapped with a two-year suspension.
Age fraud is a serious matter and is detrimental to the health of the sport. Many youngsters who are supposed to be playing in a particular age group fail to make it owing to age fraud. With the BCCI taking stern actions to curb this, it is only advisable for the players to come forward and abide by the directives issued by the Board.
A voluntary disclosure scheme for players who are already registered will be applicable to all cricketers participating in the board's age-group tournaments from the 2020-21 season onwards.
Under this scheme, players who voluntarily declare that they have manipulated their date of birth by submitting fake/tampered documents in the past will not be suspended and allowed to participate in the appropriate age group level if they disclose their actual date of birth (DOB).

Gianni Infantino: FIFA President to Continue in Role amid Criminal Investigation

FIFA president Gianni Infantino will remain in the role while he is a subject of a criminal investigation.
Last week, prosecutors in Switzerland launched legal proceedings against Infantino in relation to an alleged secret meeting he held with the Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber.
Both men have denied any wrongdoing.
As per FIFA, which is based in Zurich, the meetings were routine and nothing remotely criminal has happened.
Special prosecutor Stefan Keller was appointed in June to review criminal complaints against the two men and others.

German Footballer Benedikt Howedes Retires

German footballer Benedikt Howedes retired from football. He was part of the 2014 world-cup winning Germany team. He was one of the 3 players who had played every minute for the team in the tournament.
Benedikt Howedes has played 44 times for German National Team from 2011-17.
In September 2007, German Football Association honoured him with the Fritz Walter Medal, under-19 Gold Medal which is given to the best youth players.
He has played for clubs Schalke 04, Juventus and Lokomotiv Moscow.
He played for the youth team at Schalke and then for the senior's club from 2007-18. He spent an injury-troubled loan spell in Juventus in 2017-18.
The defender was last playing for Lokomotiv Moscow in Russian League and left it by mutual consent after the league was called-off due to coronavirus.

China Open among Four Events Cancelled

This year`s China Open, scheduled to run from September 15-20 in Changzhou, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said.
The BWF also said that the Taiwan Open (September 1-6), Korea Open (September 8-13) and Japan Open (September 22-27) had also been cancelled.
The China Open was one of three BWF Super-1000 category events scheduled during the year. The All England Open was held in Birmingham in March but the Indonesia Open, which had been scheduled for June 16-21 in Jakarta, was cancelled.
The BWF had cancelled the China Masters and Dutch Open earlier this month. The season-ending World Tour Finals in Guangzhou, China, is still on the calendar and will conclude on December 20.

Serena, Rafael and Novak in 2020 Western & Southern Open Players List

The 2020 Western & Southern Open that is scheduled from August 20-28, 2020, has included star tennis players like Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in its player list.
The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York will also witness Grigor Dimitrov and Marin Cilic. The one-time staging of the tournament in New York instead of Cincinnati is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The initial entries include both defending champions - Daniil Medvedev for the ATP Tour and Madison Keys for the WTA.
Main draw play for the Western & Southern Open will begin on August 22 followed by semi-finals on August 27.
Both singles finals will take place on August 28.
The tournament is slated to be completed just before the US Open that is scheduled between August 31 and September 13 at the same venue.
