Sheikh Russel International Air Rifle Championship

World number one Indian Elavenil Valarivan won a gold medal and Shahu Tushar Mane bagged a silver in the Sheikh Russel International Air Rifle Championship, held virtually.
The championship was organised by Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation (BSSF).
Thanks to her gold, Elavenil got richer by $1000 while Shahu Mane pocketed $700 for his effort.
In the 60-shot competition in which shooters from six nations participated, including hosts Bangladesh and India, Elavenil shot a modest 627.5 to come out on top.
Shiori Hirata won the silver with 622.6, while Indonesian Vidya Toyyiba took the bronze with 621.1.

Kiren Rijiju Addresses Y20 Global Summit

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju represented India in the Y20 Global Summit on October 15, 2020, aimed at exchanging ideas and dialogues between nations to empower the youth across the world.
Shri Rijiju was on a panel to discuss the Post Covid Opportunities for the Youth and was joined by Senator Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister of Italy, Dr. Flavio Siniscalchi, Head of the Department of Youth Policies and Universal Civic Service, Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Italy), H.E Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore).
The host country for the Y20 Summit this year was Saudi Arabia.

Okuhara Nozomi Beats Carolina Marin to Take Denmark Open

Okuhara Nozomi beat Olympic badminton champion Carolina Marin to claim the Denmark Open title.
Japan's 2017 world champion won when the two met in last year's semi-finals, and she was victorious again in Odense 21-19, 21-17.
Okuhara had lost her previous seven finals - including at the 2019 Denmark Open to Tai Tzu Ying - but was too strong for the Spaniard as she secured her first tournament victory since the 2018 Hong Kong Open.
With reigning world champion PV Sindhu opting to sit out the event, two of her biggest rivals made it through to the final.

Pakistan Fast Bowler Umar Gul Announces Retirement

Pakistan speedster Umar Gul announced he will retire from all forms of cricket after the end of the ongoing National T20 Cup.
The 36-year-old Gul, who played his last match for Pakistan - an ODI - in 2016, featured for Balochistan team in the National T20 Cup.
The Peshawar-born Gul made his international debut in an ODI in 2003. He played his first Test that year itself.

Ultimate Table Tennis Postponed

The fourth edition of Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) has been deferred to 2021 in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) authorities and the UTT management took the decision to postpone the event, keeping in mind the safety and well-being of the players and other league stakeholders.
With the sporting world gradually moving towards resumption of live action, the fourth season of UTT next year will be held next year.

Michael Irani Interim President of IWF

In accordance with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Constitution and By-laws, the IWF Executive Board appointed Dr. Michael Irani as IWF Interim President.
Irani is Chairman of the IWF Medical Committee and a former Chairman of the IWF Anti-Doping Commission. Irani has extensive experience in the fight against doping and in safeguarding athlete welfare.
Welcoming the formation of the IWF Athletes' Commission, whose Chairperson will be invited to participate in all future board meetings, Irani and the IWF EB committed to achieving further progress in governance and constitutional reforms, and to implement the changes as soon as possible.

Kidambi Srikanth Out of Demark Open

Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out of the Denmark Open after losing 22-20, 13-21, 16-21 to Chou Tien Chen in men's singles quarter-finals match.
With Srikanth's exit, India's challenge in the Super 750 tournament also came to an end. Srikanth won the first game against the second seed Tien Chen but he fought back in the next two games to qualify for the semi-finals of the Denmark Open.
Earlier, India's Ajay Jayaram and Shubhankar Dey lost their respective matches as they crashed out in the opening round of the tournament.

Daniel Wanjiru Gets Four-year Ban

As per the sport`s independent Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), Kenyan Daniel Wanjiru, the 2017 London Marathon winner, has been banned for four years due to an Athlete Biological Passport violation.
Wanjiru, who has denied any wrongdoing, was provisionally suspended in April.
His ban has been backdated to December 9, 2019 and all of the 28-year-old`s results since March 9 last year have been disqualified.

Kidambi Srikanth Eases into Quarter-finals of Denmark Open

Indian badminton star Kidambi Srikanth produced a rich vein of form as he swept aside Jason Anthony Ho-Shue of Canada in straight games to cement his spot in the quater-finals of the men's singles event of the ongoing Denmark Open.
The 27-year-old fifth-seeded took just 33 minutes to get better of his Canadian opponent Anthony 21-15, 21-14 in the second round of the Super 750 tournament in Denmark.
