Virat Kohli 3rd Indian to Hit 200 Sixes in IPL

  •  Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli added yet another feather on his already illustrious cap by becoming the third Indian batsman and fifth overall to notch up 200 sixes in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
  • The 31-year-old achieved the feat during the Bangalore franchise's clash against Chennai Super Kings in Match 44 of the ongoing 2020 season of the lucrative T20 tournament.
  • Indian skipper became the third player from the country after his Mumbai Indians counterpart Rohit Sharma (209) and CSK counterpart MS Dhoni (216) to achieve the milestone of 200 maximums in the cash-rich league.

Kiren Rijiju to Launch 200-km ITBP Fit India Walkathon

  • Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will flag off a 200-km long 'Fit India Walkathon' being organised by border guarding force ITBP in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer. Personnel of various central armed police forces (CAPFs) and residents of the city will participate in the event between October 31 and November 2, 2020.
  • ITBP Director General S. S. Deswal and senior officials and jawans from all CAPFs will participate in the 200 km Fit India Walkathon. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju will flag it off.
  • He said that the route march will continue day and night and pass through the dunes of the Thar Desert in the area located along the India-Pakistan border. The exercise aims to create awareness for a fit and healthy lifestyle. The ITBP and its chief have undertaken numerous such walkathons in the past.

Indian Men and Women in Asian Chess Finals

  • B. Adhiban and R. Vaishali shone bright as the top-seeded Indian men's and women's teams entered the final of the Asian Nations Online Chess Championship with victories over Kazakhstan and Mongolia, respectively.
  • While the men beat Kazakhstan 2.5-1.5 and 3-1 in the two-leg semifinal, the women's side posted 3.5-0.5 and 4-0 wins over Mongolia. The women will meet Indonesia in the final.
  • The Indian team, led by Surya Sekhar Ganguly, faces Australia in the final.

ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 Wins 'Best Sporting Event' Award in Australia

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup held in February-March this year has been recognised at the 2020 Australian Event Awards, including winning the top honour Australian Event of the Year, as well as the country's Best Sporting Event.
  • The ground-breaking tournament attracted an overall attendance of more than 1,36,000 people in 23 matches in six host cities around the country and generated unprecedented television and digital audience numbers.
  • It culminated in a crowd of 86,174 at the final between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on the International Women's Day (March 8), a record attendance for a women's sporting event in Australia and the second-highest attendance at a women's sporting fixture anywhere in the world, ever.

Mohammed Siraj First Player in IPL History to Bowl Two Maiden Overs

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Mohammad Siraj created history as he became the first bowler to bowl two maiden overs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
  • Siraj achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Siraj was seen at his best as his first two overs conceded no runs and he also ended up taking the wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana.

Ahmedabad Will Host Pink-ball Test Between India and England

  • BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the day-night Test between India and England will be played in Ahmedabad in 2021.
  • England and India are slated to play five Tests and a limited-overs series in 2021. Ganguly said that the venues for Test matches have not been finalised yet, but he confirmed that the day-night Test would be played in Ahmedabad.
  • The Apex Council of the BCCI had met virtually and the three major areas of focus as per the agenda were the upcoming tour of Australia, England`s visit post the Australia series and starting the Indian domestic season.

Dhawan Scores Back to Back Centuries Creates IPL Record

  • Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan became the only batsman in the thirteen years of Indian Premier League (IPL) history to have scored back to back centuries.
  • The milestone came while the table-toppers were setting the target for the seventh-ranked Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
  • Dhawan scored an unbeaten 106 off 61 balls and with 12 fours and three sixes.
  • During Dhawan's race to his second century in the past three days and 13 seasons, he also crossed 5,000 IPL runs.
