Chris Gayle Becomes First Cricketer to Reach 1000 Sixes in T20's

  • In the IPL 2020 game between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, West Indian superstar Chris Gayle added another feather in his decorated hat when he became the first player in cricket history to reach an astonishing 1000 sixes in T20 cricket.
  • Gayle reached the mark during his thrilling knock of 99 (off 63 balls) which was studded with 6 fours and 8 sixes.
  • What is even more astounding is the fact that how ahead Gayle is from the rest of the field. Kieron Pollard is next on the list with 690 sixes while former Kiwi great Brendon Mccullum is at the third spot with 485.

Amit Panghal and Sanjeet Strike Gold at French Boxing Tournament

  • World silver-medallist Amit Panghal (52 kg) and Sanjeet (91 kg) struck gold in their first competition after a coronavirus-forced break, claiming the top honours at the Alexis Vastine International Boxing Tournament in Nantes, France.
  • Amit, also an Asian Games champion besides being Commonwealth Games silver-medallist, defeated American Rene Abraham 3-0 with a dominating performance.
  • Sanjeet, a former India Open gold-medallist, too, put up a clinical show to get past Frenchman Soheb Bouafia in his summit clash and secure a gold.
  • Asian silver-winner Ashish Kumar also claimed a gold after his opponent, American Joseph Gerome Hiks, gave him a walkover due to injury.
  • This was the first international competition that Indian boxers featured in since the Olympic qualifiers in Jordan in March.

Haroon Lorgat in Nine-member Interim Board to Run CSA

  • South Africa's Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced a nine-member interim board that will run the Cricket South Africa (CSA) for the next three months after the entire board stepped down earlier this week.
  • Former CSA chief Haroon Lorgat and former South African batsman Omphile Ramela have been included in the interim board, which will be chaired by Judge Zak Yaqoob.
  • Besides them, the committee named by the South African government also include Andre Odendaal, Stavros Nikalo, Judith February, Andile Dawn Mbatha, Xolani Vonya and Nkeko Caroline Mampuru.

Sharan and Bopanna Out of Astana Open

  • Divij Sharan and Rohan Bopanna's campaign at the Astana Open ended with defeats in the quarter-finals and round of 16 respectively at the National Tennis Centre.
  • Sharan and his British partner Luke Bambridge lost 3-6, 5-7 to Australian Open runners-up Max Purcell and Luke Saville.
  • Rohan Bopanna and his Danish Partner Frederick Nielsen went down to Marcelo Arevalo of Uruguay and Tomislav Brkic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu Resigns

  • Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned from the club ahead of a no confidence vote that was due to be held next month after some 20,000 fans signed a petition demanding that he steps down.
  • The rest of the board of directors also resigned.
  • Bartomeu has been facing growing resentment in the last year due to the club's worsening finances and the team's decline on the pitch, which came to a head with their 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals in August.
  • Bartomeu called the government`s decision irresponsible and thanked the club and said that he could not have resigned earlier.

Faiza Heidar Becomes First Woman to Coach a Men's Team in Egypt

  • Faiza Heidar grew up playing soccer in the streets with the boys and went on to captain Egypt`s national women`s team. Now, she has become the first woman to train one of the country`s professional men`s clubs.
  • Heidar has been signed up by the fourth division side Ideal Goldi, based in Giza.
  • Heidar was the first Egyptian coach - male or female - to gain the Premier Skills Coach Educator status, certified by England`s Premier League.
  • Soccer remains an overwhelmingly male sport in Egypt.
